My aunt planted a 3 ft mango tree in my backyard, 5 years ago. She passed away a couple of months ago, and this season was the first time we had mangos grow on the tree. My 5 year old daughter and I just ate the last 2 mangoes and we decided to try and grow a couple more trees, in her honor. ❤
I live in Florida. I planted a 3 foot mango tree I bought at Home Depot about 10 years ago, It is huge at about 40-50 feet. To plant mango seeds all you have to do is take the seed even if it still has some mango fruit stuck to it and place that in a flower pot and cover it with soil. In just a week you will have a mango tree sapling extruding from the soil. Typically I will plant 6 seeds side by side and when they sprout you can separate them and move them to their own pots. Expect 5 years to get a fruit bearing tree. Scissors are not needed.
I also use cinnamon when germinating mango seeds. It seems to speed up the germination because mine have roots and are ready to plant usually within 10 days. I live in Thailand and it's cheaper to buy mangos at the markets but it's fun to grow my own too. The garden shop here also sells mango trees already 5-6 months old for 200 baht (less than $6 USD).
"When my mango was about this size, it had a tap root growing out the hole of the pot. It dried up between waterings and eventually killed the plant. I should have transplanted. Nice video!

@@AustinTexasGardening Yeahh for sure .i am concerning about the winter too hopefully it won’t be as bad and my mangoes are also from Haiti 🇭🇹 so I definitely don’t want to lose them .
I would like to see the video (or next video) carry it through to the point of bearing fruit. This either means, grafting from another "desireable" mango onto this sapling, or explaining the process of growing it for 15 years or more before it bears fruit. And of course, when you grow a mango tree from a seed like this, you have no idea what type of mango you will get, (when it finally does fruit). Most likely a Kensington or Turpentine. Both of which will taste a lot like turpentine if you do not grant onto it. Grafting is the next step, which should be done, if you are looking for a fruit tree with good tasting fruit.

Very interesting, but I planted a philippine (carabao) mango seed into a 3 gallon pot. I didn't do any of the extra work in this video and the plant came up within 2 to 3 weeks. It's a good idea to keep it in the shade until the plant has good strong leaves.

Im in Michigan and just started a couple mango seeds! Obviously theyll be indoors as we get super cold here. Will be fun to see if i can make it work!@AustinTexasGardening
So let me get this straight: the seeds need 3 weeks preparation, the sapling needs a lot of light and warmth and you need to be careful that the pot isn't too small. At what age would you think that the tree could survive cold weather? I'm in Germany if that helps.
Unfortunately the trees cant really ever stand cold weather, I take my tropical plants into the garage under a grow lamp during the cold season. However, during Texas' 2021 historic winter storm, we had so many power outages that my mango tree died
