    I've been painting miniatures in all scales and just never really saw the reason for painting the flesh first. Ipersonally don, because wrecking the flesh after doing so much work is annoying, where as I find it easier to correct any mistakes on fabric. Guess it's just how my brain works! He looks great brother!

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 лет назад +1

      I think its really done to just using whatever method is most comfortable with you, I tend to do both; painting the flesh before or after the uniforms. In my tutorials I pained the flesh before to save time as it also makes to nice focal point as the figure gets painted

    Excellent workmanship, video Shane. What size brushes do you usually use to paint figures. What do you use to hold them down on the lid.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  7 лет назад +1

      thanks Jeff ! the brush sizes I normally uses are 4, 3, 1 and 0 rounds they tend to get most jobs done, as for mounting I normally used superglue to glue them to caps, or a paperclip to mount them on the cork

    really enjoy your channel, and look forward to your figure painting. I have millions of questions. Africa is my favorite builds. but my hardest is winter, and the Germans had so many different styles, in clothing. hell even rabbit fur, any paintings that you could bring out. of the heavy winter outfits?.

      hey Clayton ! I funny enough have planned that the next video is gonna be how to do paint white winter reversible jackets as you are the second person to request a winter uniform video so I shall not disappoint ! ;)

    This is very educating video but ım curius about the painting flesh like this figure. While ım building a dak Dio. ıf you would add flesh painiting parts thats would be great because like everything fleshes change with weather. And ı want to see how you apply this changings.
    Sorry for bad English. If you reply ı would be very happy. Thank you.

      I have a video on how I paint flesh which is the same for all my models, though for painting this figure I added a little red or red brown into the flesh to give him a sun burned look

    now is this kit plastic or resin? ...and can you use regular old artist acrylic paints I have a beginner set of paints and cant seem to get the results that you do.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  7 лет назад

      this figure is a plastic from a Tamiya set, yes you can use artist oils, if you they do not behave the way you want them, it could be down to several things. One is the quality of the oil paints, if they are very cheap under ten euro for example the quality of pigments may be poor, the artist oils I use are midfield in quality with a set got for 20euro. Thinner also is important I use artists white spirit or turpentine, thinners must be solvent based and either artist or model making grade (sold by model companies) don't not use DIY spirits as it much stronger and will melt through varnishes and even models
      hope this helps

    • @tberger1002
      @tberger1002 7 лет назад +1

      Yes they are a beginner set so I imagine they are not the greatest in quality..nonetheless I'm having fun with them keep up the great work you are inspiring me to be a better figure painter and thanks for the quick reply

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  7 лет назад

      that's the main the thing, as long as your having fun you'll learn pretty quick and enjoy it, as for the paints, sorry I thought you were talking about oils at first sorry, for acrylics you can normal old water to thin them, my experience of artists acrylic is limited as I could never get them to work, you can get your hands on some model paint sets from vallejo or any other brand I would recommend that, though I understand if they are difficult to acquire

    can someone tell me do i seal the figure first and then apply the shading? doesn't that stuff eat into the paint?

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  5 лет назад +1

      the shade is water based, so it won't effect your paint, just ensure that the paint is fully dry before applying it

    Good job.If the uniform was khaki color would a brown wash been used as opposed to black?

    • @GiftofChaosStudio

      Rown of varying intensities works for khaki. Experiment with it. All depends on how intense you want the contrast to be! Black is just too stark tbh
