thanks Mark! Work has been so busy that it has slowed my normal production time to a crawl but it was a lot of fun to just sit down and paint over a few evenings
As always, great video/tutorial! Where I find the most value is your discussion about techniques and your execution, all caught beautifully on camera. Keep 'em coming!
Great video, glad you made this one, I have a tank crew for a Panzer I built I want to try this on, I am not a figure painter, but I am gonna give it a whirl after watching this, thanks again!.....Bill
Hey Shane, your recent video was spot on. I happened that I started to paint figures finally and just started on the Dragon 1/16 th scale Dragon Tank Commander and did his jacket in the summer Oak Leaf variety. Actually followed the same approach as you did.
thanks mate! Miniart has some lovely figure sets, I have my eye on a few of their new kits! As for 1/48 figures I have none in the stash but will look into in and see what I can come up
ah I understand now, thought you were asking for a 1/48 tutorial, ya you should 1/35 far easier having gotten used to the smaller scale. I myself spent many years painting 1/72 and 1/56 figures before I got into 1/35 figures and I feel it really helped me with my brush control
cheers mate, the trick is do small sections at a time and keep some reference photos at hand so you can see how the colors and shades interact with each other
Figure paint has always been my weak spot. Thank you so much for your great videos! I'd like to know how to paint livestock and corpses, and some guidance on painting Japanese soldiers and tanks will also be welcomed!
cheers! As for painting wounded and dead figures, you should be looking to add either blue, grey or green hue to flesh tones you are using to capture that pallid look that blood loss brings. As for Imperial Japanese Army videos I will have to look into it
Very nice. I looked through your vids hoping you'd done a tan and water camo but didn't see one. I'm not sure what Vallejo paints to use for that. Suggestions welcomed.... :-)
Yeah, I finally had time to watch this last night and it was well worth the wait. Your Oakleaf pattern turned out great and the final finish was quite eye-catching. Great work Shane. We need to get a collab happening soon. 👊👊
cheers mate, I really tried took a leaf out of yours and Ian's book in this project and try to manually paint in my shadows and highlights rather than use washes to achieve it
Yes, I could tell you tried something different from your previous videos. How did you like the final results? I think this technique produces a finer and more dynamic figure... IMO.
I found it quite involved and little tricky not being able to hold the figure as close to myself as I would like due to the camera, but i did like the end result
Great tutorial Shayne, I am doing the Miniart Totenkopf division Kursk 1943 and plan to use this camo. Do you think this would be a suitable colour scheme or should I just stick to the regular German uniform. Thanks once again for a great lesson.
so for troops at kursk this camo in theory might have been worn by some troops, more fitting to the time year would be spring oak leaf / plane tree pattern which I have also done a tutorial on: ruclips.net/video/vQRdA4aPFSc/видео.html
so the best way to thin down your paint without it becoming a wash, is to literally dip the rounded end of your brush handle into some water, you get only a tiny amount of water and mix it into your paint on your palette
Superb painting skills, I have to say though....i've never seen any photos of Meyer wearing Oak Leaf...not to say he did'nt but I have seen photos of him wearing Italian & Spring Blurred edge camo suits in Normandy.
Very nice Shane! If memory serves, the jacket had printed wool across the shoulders which makes them appear darker. Also, Waffen SS cap bands were black, not dark green. Anyway, I love the way you've done the Oakleaf!
You need to look at some more photos when painting, change the way how you make your shapes of the oak leaf they are too sharp not rounded edges, like oak leafs..
Perfekt camouflage 👍
thanks! glad you liked it!
Amazing shane
thanks mate!
Amazing paint job as usual
Would kill to paint figures like that
trust me its no black magic with practice and giving yourself the chance to learn you will get there in no time!
Really enjoyed watching you paint the figure & some very nice tips to boot. Thanks
cheers Mark! glad you enjoyed it! twas a nice project to paint up!
Love that camo, looks amazing👍
thanks mate!
Thank you Shane taking the mystic out of the complicated German camouflage, the end result is exquisite.
thanks Mark! was a lot of fun to paint up, often the only real tricky aspect is just where to start but once you get into it, painting becomes easier
Great to see a vid from you Shane. Very well filmed tutorial mate .
thanks Mark! Work has been so busy that it has slowed my normal production time to a crawl but it was a lot of fun to just sit down and paint over a few evenings

As always, great video/tutorial! Where I find the most value is your discussion about techniques and your execution, all caught beautifully on camera. Keep 'em coming!

Fantastic detail. I was very impressed with the sound quality and well placed text. Very well done Shane.

Great video, glad you made this one, I have a tank crew for a Panzer I built I want to try this on, I am not a figure painter, but I am gonna give it a whirl after watching this, thanks again!.....Bill

thanks mate, great minds think alike ;)
Nice
Looks awesome! I'm about to do a set of miniart 1/35 tankers. Hoping some work with 1/48 helps out
thanks mate! Miniart has some lovely figure sets, I have my eye on a few of their new kits! As for 1/48 figures I have none in the stash but will look into in and see what I can come up
@@longlance67 I've been practicing on 1/48...so I figure at this point 1/35 should be a bit easier

You can probably paint names on grains of rice after doing 1/72 lol
Liked video. Always have trouble with patterns
cheers mate, the trick is do small sections at a time and keep some reference photos at hand so you can see how the colors and shades interact with each other
@@longlance67 Good tip, try painting the "palm tree" pattern, kinda difficult in 35th scale.
Figure paint has always been my weak spot. Thank you so much for your great videos! I'd like to know how to paint livestock and corpses, and some guidance on painting Japanese soldiers and tanks will also be welcomed!

Very nice videos, what kinds of brush do you use ?
thank you! I use Winsor and Newton Cottman series brushes
Very nice. I looked through your vids hoping you'd done a tan and water camo but didn't see one. I'm not sure what Vallejo paints to use for that. Suggestions welcomed.... :-)
I will have to look into it and get back to you as I don't know off the top of my head what would be best

It's always hard to film and paint at the same time, especially figures so I know what you're saying. Yes, the end result was great.
Bardzo ładnie!
thank you!

What brushes do you use? Brilliant work, as usual.
I use Winsor and Newton Cottman brushes, chiefly No.3, 2, 0 and OO round brushes
How do you thin the paint without making it a sort of wash?
Great video! And thanks for the help!

happy to be of help!
Superb painting skills, I have to say though....i've never seen any photos of Meyer wearing Oak Leaf...not to say he did'nt but I have seen photos of him wearing Italian & Spring Blurred edge camo suits in Normandy.
ya it may well be the case of the blurred camo being mistaken for oak leaf in the research
Nice I'm about to start work on a 200mm German paratrooper sculpted by John rosengrant
oh nice!
Very nice....
thanks!
Very nice Shane! If memory serves, the jacket had printed wool across the shoulders which makes them appear darker. Also, Waffen SS cap bands were black, not dark green. Anyway, I love the way you've done the Oakleaf!
thanks for the info!
I love your videos, and I've been watching them for years, but I still giggle slightly every time you say the words "tin it down"
haha its a quirk of the Irish accent we don't really do "th's" lol
You need to look at some more photos when painting, change the way how you make your shapes of the oak leaf they are too sharp not rounded edges, like oak leafs..
noted..
Very mediocry painting pattern does not look in slightest like an original garment would.. So question with such stuff... Videos... WHY?????
same question with this comment..
