      @@jemand8462you don’t understand T1 very well or you’d know that an endurance sport like tennis is different than weight lifting. They present completely different challenges in terms of managing BG for an insulin dependent Type 1 diabetic. Both are admirable, tennis much more difficult to manage for a T1. Much more. You clearly don’t know shit about that and your reference to being a med student makes it more annoying so I’ll let you have it. There’s lots of things you don’t know much about so at least know that and don’t think you’re all that because you blew it here trying to correct someone. Ugh.

    I am a type 2 diabetic, and have found that when I play competitive tennis my sugar goes up, which is counter intuitive, as I should be burning up the sugar. I found it very interesting to see Zverev taking the insulin. Doctors have told me that it might be the result of adrenaline, that caused the rush of sugar. This was a great example.
    It should be known that Tony Travers, the last American man to win the French before Jim Courier was
    A diabetic, who against Doctor's order exercised and became a great athlete and champion. His experience helped change the way diabetics were treated. The focus became exercise and nutrition.
    Dumb direction/rule by the governing body.

    • @TheJwebb7
      @TheJwebb7 Год назад +7

      Type 1 is very different from type 2......Zverev was likely taking the insulin to match the carbohydrates he was consuming during the match, not because of the adrenaline rush. Blood sugar does tend to lower during exercise but it can start with an initial rise. Also, there is much variability from person to person. People with type 2 diabetes never require insulin until late stages of the disease process if its not managed properly. I do think players should be allowed to manage their medical needs courtside.
