  • This is the Brooks Ghost Max. And it’s got pretty much every change that I’d want to see for the popular Ghost line. More stack. More cushion. Less drop. So is it any good? Or is this now a Homer Simpson car of a running shoe? It’s time to lace up the Ghost Max and take it for a run

    As a bigger runner (6’, and 225 lbs) I gotta say I LOVE these. I have about 150 miles on them so far and primarily use them for my recovery and easy road miles. I personally felt they were firmer than the ghosts, but the lower heel drop and the overall fit of them felt perfect. As for my speed days with strides and intervals I use the ASICS superblasts. As a primary trail runner I use the La sportiva jackal 2’s.

    I have been running in a Brooks Ghost for about a year and a half. I like the comfort and the durability of the shoe. I liked it so much that I bought a second pair. However, I just got a pair of Glycerin 20’s, and I absolutely love them. The comfort, to me, is much greater. Also, they feel lighter on my feet. I also got a pair of ASICS Novablast 3’s. The Novablast and the Glycerin’s seem to compliment each shoe nicely. The ride is a little more cushy in the Glycerin’s, but the Novablast’s have a little bit better return. I love both of these shoes, and I smile when it is either shoes turn in my shoe rotation.

    Love your channel! Very high quality useful and entertaining content. I recently purchased the Brooks Ghost and shortly thereafter the Brooks Ghost Max. Happy with both, and my return to Brooks after using the Vantage and Vantage Supreme back in the late 70s early 80s. I am 6'2" 195 lbs and 67 years old and have been mostly injury free over 45 years and 54,000 miles of running.....until recently when I started getting left calf strains. Part of this is being 25lbs heavier and 40years older than my prime, but part is also I think due to using super shoes with too soft cushioning for my weight. Seems like there may be some antagonistic motion going on with all the muscles and tendons in the back of my leg. I think my leg is starting to pull up while for a brief instant the heel is still going down. Not good. Which is where the firmer Brooks Ghost with the larger drop comes in. Good shoe to avoid that antagonistic motion. The Ghost is a bit heavy and clunky though so I tried the Max and like it too despite the reduced drop. They both seemed to fit well. I have sworn off the super shoes. Much as I love them I think they get me injured. So for now I am happy with the two Brooks Ghost shoes as well as the Hoka Tecton X2 for trail running.

    The rocker really works great for my biomechanics, I love the “moderate” level of plushness (don’t need any more) because it’s sleek and runs light for this category, and it’s nimbler for picking up the pace and more stable. Of course I have plenty of other shoes for speed work. I’m not big or tall as you know but can’t stand the sink-in marshmallowy super high stack options. This shoe should get even more interesting in v2 with the nitrogen infused midsole.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  7 месяцев назад

    • @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
      @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 7 месяцев назад

      If it helps, as an older runner (72 y.o. F) my times aren’t a lot faster than that. I started running marathons in 2019 and have run the last 3 consecutive Bostons. In my 1st two of those, I used the Saucony Endorphin Speeds and my times got a little better each time to around 4:30-ish. Last year I got my first carbon plated shoe, the Endorphin Pro3 you ask about. I definitely trained and carb-loaded better, but I do also think the shoe played a role and I chopped 18 minutes of the previous year for 4:17 flat. I agree with Kofuzi that comfort is an important factor, particularly in the full marathon distance. But the shoe also kept my legs and feet feeling fresher throughout and recovery was quicker. You should at least try them on (along with other options) in a running store to see how they feel. We’re all different biomechanically but it’s been demonstrated that everyone can benefit from such shoes, and the Endo Pro3 became one of the more universal models that work for a lot of people of all speeds.

    I have about 60 miles on these and the outsole is looking pretty bad. Probably completely gone by 200 miles. That being said, outsoles aren’t really important to me where I live. We can run on straight foam and be safe.

      Another opinion: I find Brooks outsoles to last longer than any others besides adidas, which are famous for their durability. And FYI I wore this shoe on a day after snow, on many slick surfaces including wet leaves. Traction was excellent.
