it’s a harry styles world and we’re all just living in it
“...frustrated by Frodo for nine hours.”
“...it’s easy to remember because my name is Sam Johnson.”
Love your cut and dry humor, Sam!
Sorry sam you’re going to have to re-record this reaction because you missed your chance to say ‘watermelon sugar hi, my name is Sam Johnson’ at the start 😂

"I like her hair"
Interesting, write that down
😂😂❤️
Hahaha literally thought the same 😂😂
I liked her hair so much that I basically copied it :D ...was looking for a change anyways, saw it and boom...
I feel like the warmth and tenderness of his personality (or persona) are reflected tonally in his singing, which likely stems from how our subconscious intentions greatly affect everything we do.
This is interesting. Another idea to consider is how the definition of a warm sounding voice is kind of arbitrary and unrelated to the literal meaning of warmth. Do we subconsciously associate a voice with these characteristics with warmth, or have we simply mutually agreed on the term warmth as a means of characterising a voice. It could be a combination of both. The former answer more strongly reinforces your idea as it links what we instinctually feel to our voice, whereas the latter is based on intellectual ideas preconceived by those around us.
@@jhakardballoch2986 Yes! Very interesting, indeed. I think "warmth," as it relates to tone, is likely one part short list of agreed-upon qualities and one part emotional registration. I acknowledge my original supposition could be greatly flawed in this example; however, I do believe the energy of our intentions--those oft' unvoiced drives and purpose with which we approach every action--greatly affect outcomes.
"You got to get used to being bad [...] You can't beat yourself up for all of the mistakes that you're going to make."
We should all learn to be kinder to ourselves, thanks for the reminder!
Have a great day too!
The Voice Teacher has a Comedy Teacher? because those sponsorship jokes were PERFECT
that background singer with the guitar is TOO GOOD she's definitely meant to be a singer on her own! Her voice is so powerful
Her name is Ny Oh and she does solo work, too!
I feel like the guitarist background singer stole the show. Is it weird to say I would have liked to hear her sing lead and what her version of the song would sound like?
I agree! I would love to see a cover from her
that's Ny Oh! she has her own music if you wanna check her out lookitsnyoh.bandcamp.com/
Yes check her solo stuff! She has a whole ep on Spotify (and other streaming platforms, I'm sure)
Awesome! Thanks for the info! 💜
@@shedoesconcerts5762 Thank you, gonna pop over there right now 😊
React to Harry styles girl crush!!
Omg yesss
That my favorite cover he does
OMG YEEESSS
YESSSS
The Guitar player's name is Ny Oh. She has an ep out on Spotify and stuff on RUclips. You should definitely check her out! She is AMAZING! I've definitely became a fan through her being in Harry's band. Her voice just stands out. Her song Georgia is probably my favorite.
Ny Oh, the guitarist, has some amazing solo stuff. Same goes for the drummer (Pillow Person) and the keyboardist (Charlotte Clark). They're all so ridiculously talented
Voice crack at 0:09. These are the moments that keep me up at night.
What you said about Harry and not caring too much about what other people think was so lovely, beautiful & true! That's really one of the things that makes Harry so special and it's a quality I admire so much about him. I think it's also one of the reasons why he's so charismatic & interesting to so many people.
Anyways, great video as always, Sam! You have a lovely day, too! :)
I have 0 interest in singing other than my own amazing karaoke attempts, which to be fair are more like a Stars In Their Eyes show, whereby fuelled with alcohol I actually DO become the star and produce an amazing sound...so I've no idea how Sam Johnson came up on my recommended list years ago
I clicked because of his lovely smile, and much later on I'm still here due to his amazing smile!
I LOVE the way this young man is so damn positive about everyone. There's no bitchy look-at-me-on-YT, it's really all singing teacher giving assistance and going on the positive view of how people can improve and enjoy their own music/voice
If I decided to have a go at being Maria Callas I'd sure go to someone like Sam Johnson for lessons
Sam, keep smiling you little sweetheart x
1000% agree! There is something truly magical about Sam and his smiles (and i also will never be a professional singer by any means but this channel just brings joy!) ❤️
"I can get frustrated by Frodo for 9 hours" is damn relatable
I love that you appreciate Harry as a musician/artist and not just a pretty face with a nice voice. He’s so handsome and charming it’s easy for people to write him off as not being serious, but he’s really smart & talented & hard-working.
Yes! The way you describe him at the end of your video is perfect!
Turned on post notifications for you after your poll and discussion about views yesterday. I really enjoy the more technical videos you put out, and I understand that views matter too! Just happy you're here.
Also, "it's easy to remember because my name is Sam Johnson" 😂
So true about harmonies. I used to be absolute dog shit at creating/following any harmonies. I'd always be flat or super unsure where I should take it. Then I really took the time to do what you said. I learned every part of songs I already loved to sing and each time I sang through, I picked a different harmony. It slowly became easier and easier to notice background harmonies in general (that I straight up ignored hearing before) and then it became easier to predict how a harmony would sound before hearing it at all. Now I find myself singing the harmony automatically and that feels really good considering where I started. Singing truly requires practice. I think people often forget that.
I don't know why, but I couldn't stop staring at your eyebrows 😂😂 I love them.
We all do
I love that intentional break that backing vocalist has. I’ve been trying to find that in myself but I’ve been taught and trained to smooth over that so it’s hard to finf it and strengthen it. Or maybe I just don’t have the voice for it. But good video though, I love this song and it’s even better live.
Oh I had that problem for several months. It really is figuring out the right technique.
Just try to make a distinct difference between the vocal qualitiey in volume and vowels... For a fuller voice quality use more metallic vowels like e, ae, oh... For the flipped thinner quality u, o and i. It also really helps to increase the volume a little before letting the flip happen. Practice yodeling slowly... 😊. That might help a little. Former classically studied singer here and now mainly working in the pop/rock field (so I know the issues).
You should react to Harry performing Sledgehammer! I thought it was so good
It's such a good cover.
Yes, on Howard Stern? It was so good!
Yes! His band is amazing.
It's so good!
Yes!
Thank you, Sam. Wow! The way you described learning harmony was how I did it as a little girl, singing with my sister. I love the guitar girl's voice, too. Great tune, reminds me of the '70s.
So when is the guitarist going to debut? She sounds amazing!
Her name is Ny Oh. She already has some solo work out. She has an insta where she posts her stuff.
Love that advice at the end about being your authentic self. Needed to hear that
im a big fan of harry (and his band), always appreciate your videos on him and his vocals! loved what you said about their harmonies here. but also especially your commentary towards the end re authenticity and harry's evolution as an artist - very beautifully put!
yes, more harry styles !!!! super excited for this one, sam :)
Totally loved what you said at the end... Harry is focused on longevity!
Amazing performance! His band is so tight, I have absolutely got to see them live! I'm also obsessed with the funky bass line that stands out in this performance.
i’ve never actively listened to a lot of the songs you showcase on your channel. i consider myself really open minded to music and listen across genres but you introduce me (us) to so many artists i would never think of. And you do it so positively! i just couldn’t love your channel more 🥰
I love that he can either show up dressed like a full-on pirate or Mr. Rogers and both are like, yep, that’s Harry Styles.
Thanks for your reaction. Great to get your opinion on what Harry is doing while he’s singing. Love to see you react to more live Harry performances.
React to Harry Syles “Juice” by Lizzo! That beautiful guitarist KILLS IT in that!
i have already!
This whole episode just radiated positive energy. Love it
A super pro voice teacher +my favorite singer. Sam thanks a lot for this i love Harry and i love how you analyze this videos this is perfect match. More Harry!
I’m so proud of Harry and his evolution:) Having watched other solo artists, one after another, sadly crash and burn after leaving their groups, I’m irresponsibly happy for him 🥰 he’s so proud and unapologetic for his craft and who he IS as a human. A quality human being, that one. Not unlike our own Mr Johnson. Thanks for what ya do Sam!
I love how you just dig it and vibe with it throughout! I love Harry and his music too ❤
The way you explained how to sing harmonies is how I’ve been doing it for a few years and I feel so validated :)
I just love this version for NPR.His touring band is FANTASTIC! I LOVE the blond woman singing backup and playing instruments too.She really adds to the experience.Mitch is always great.Harry Fine Lines is a fantastic album.I would like to hear what you have to say about Zayne Malik's Icarus Falls.I think it's an amazing juxtaposition to Harry's Fine Lines.I feel they are talking to each other through the music.
You had my like on the Space Jam T-Shirt
I know you've done a few of his live performances, but Hozier recently did The Parting Glass and Bridge Over Troubled Water live and they are just 👌
Also Humours of Whisky
I’m currently in love with Jackboot Jump. Top notch political/activist song. And his guitar playing really shines, which is great.
@@katherinemorelle7115 honestly, anything by him because there's a lot of substance there, and he mixes up his voice somewhat depending on the message at hand.
YES PLEASE, everyone reacts to take me to church (the ny subway concert) but no ones listen to the others masterpieces that he has
I don't know anything about music and I can't sing. But I still like your videos.
Thank you, Sam for your Pep-Talk! I'm taking Singin lessons for about a year now and my worst Enemy is myself. I love to sing and it makes me so much happier and more confident in other parts of my life :)
Love this! I love how you explain how to do things right, it’s super clear and easy to understand for people who aren’t trained in singing :)
Saw Harry and clicked
Love your videos, one of the few voice teachers that actually know what their talking about
Luv the harmonies! Luv your commentary as well, Sam!♥️Like how you say "warmth" too!😉
Wow it had been so long since I saw your channel, but I remember subscribing before you had 100k and now you're son BIG that's so cool!
I would be interested to see you evaluate T-Pain's Tiny Desk performance! People tend to forget that he is a legitimately talented singer underneath the auto tune and the Tiny Desk concert put it on full display.
I love that one!! It’s so amazing.
Oh my god please react to them doing Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer on Howard Stern - it was the first time they'd performed it live but it was sooo seamless and fun
Have you ever done any Bowie videos? Would love to hear your thoughts on such a distinct voice
I'd love to see some Bowie on here. I didn't know I needed it until now.
That would be interesting
Sammy, I feel so validated because I learn singing harmonies exactly how you said it. Listening and trying to sing to every voice in a song (including guitar riffs, sometimes 😂) and from there, I would kinda have an idea what other notes are complimentary to the melody or vice versa
I love this. The back up singer and Harry are having a sing-off. 💞 Thank you Sam!
I 💚💜 how engrossed u become watching & analysing these artists and how easuly u explain to us what it all means. Ur t-shirts are always so cool Sam!!! Space jam was the 1st ever film I saw in cinema (shows my age lolol)
I love that u like harry and accept him as he is! He is so talented and he has a bright future ahead of him. He has the making of a legend coz he's serious with his craft and he really seriously wanted to learn and perfect his musicality. His voice has improved a lot and he's exploring and learning to use instruments to improve on his music not to please people but because he really loves it! 💕💕💕
Mr. Sam, the "adore you" rendition in that Tiny Desk session is also worth of a reaction video.
YES! Thank you Sam for reacting to this amazing performance! (One of my favorite tiny desk concerts!) Have you reacted to Maggie Rogers yet? Her voice is lovely and her music is beautifully funky.
Lol Sam!! I love it. He saw all the answers in the community post about more recognizable names and was like fine you thirsty asses, I'll react to Harry Styles
Not a huge Harry Styles fan (not that I dislike him either) but I enjoyed this song. I agree with Sam that the mix of the band is AMAZING on this one. The dynamics of how he came is soft and then became more of the prominent voice towards the end of the song made it feel like they were just jamming and having a good time.
This is one of my favourite performances ever! I prefer it to the studio recording.
That blonde girl on guitar is insanely talented. ✨🍉
You just make my day everytime you do a harry video!!❤❤
Thanks for the tips about the harmonizing! I wonder if you could somehow do a video on harmonizing... if you were interested of course. Love your stuff!
I learn so much from your videos, thank you for being such a gem.
Bell squad! Express VPN is super useful.
Harry Styles is pretty good but this whole band was on point and I love your technical explanations!
Hi Sam! I clicked on the bell and now I can watch your vids as you publish them!
you da you da best
How are they both such nice humans is beyond me.
Yaaasss, more tiny desk concerts!
Don’t forget to vote Harry for album of the year for the Grammys 2021 on billboard
Sorry, but the fans or public in general can't vote at the Grammy's, it's like they have the academy who nominates and votes for the artist, I'd love Harry to win a Grammy but that's not up to me or us as fans
I'm never disappointed in a Sam Johnson video or the community in the comments. The Frodo comments are cracking me up. Thanks for the smiles, y'all 😄
I love your videos! Now, I don't understand a lot about vocal performance, but I would love to see you react to and analyse one of John Farnham's live performances of 'Your the Voice'.
He is a legend of Aussie music and has been singing that song since the 80s - and still hitting the high notes and power at 67 at the 2016 ARIAs when he was inducted into the hall of fame.
Following on from your recent community post: came to RUclips today, the very first thing I noticed on the homepage was your thumbnail and the return to style (no pun intended) with your title. If you experiment with the style again, all caps & bold colours seem to be the way to go, but I also associate that colour blue with you automatically (plus understanding Harry Styles' vocals will always be interesting 😀👍😀 ).
This was amazing and I only just found this kid by accident, I had heard his name before. I don't know this woman's name but my God is her voice so amazing...perfectly clear and crisp and sweet.
Sam’s sudden admiration for the guitarist is so pure. 😊
Speaking of the Tiny Desk, have you seen T Pain performance? GOD I love his real voice live
I love you and your personality so much! I feel like you are my teaching me so much while adding in some wit and a contagious joy. Thank you for bringing me so much pleasure.
Watching you smiling and enjoying yourself is...
🥰🥰🥰. Waiting for you to join in and SING💜💜💜
Great review, Sam! You too, have a great day!
How does it feel to know u r going straight to heaven after diyng (if there is any heaven at all)? U are so kind always
I love that you love Harry.
I have been obsessed with this song this summer 😍 🎶
Great reaction more harry plsss.....!
Heyyyy! This video showed up on my recommended! Hopefully that means we're getting somewhere!
Sam, I love you. You do remind of an elf that got stuck on Earth for some reason as a kid and then got super into gaming
Yessss, tiny desk love ❤ Speaking of other artists on Tiny Desk, Lizzo was perfection!!!
Also, your profound ramble at the end is why I love Lady Gaga.
Hey! This one actually showed up on my feed. Thanks RUclips!
It seems you are really into harry styles
As i am. The vibe his voice gives me is so pure and precious but i just like to see you analysing other popular singers that you haven't made vidoe about them.
Anyway this your channel i respect your choice♥️
Dude, we’ve missed you! And yeah this entire set is really good. I find it’s a little more personable....
I don't know why sam is so sarcastic all the time haha xD love it
You should have done Sledge hammer on the Howard Stern show. It's good.
Hey Sam! I think you should react to Harry Styles performing "Sledgehammer" on Howard Stern. It really shows just how good Harry is
this was super informative
“Frustrated by Frodo for nine hours” 🤣 it’s so true though. It’s a wonder how he made it to Mordor.
king samwise had to carry him on his back! we love
No choice but to stan Samwise
I love you and I love Harry. Win for me!
Yayy this one showed up in my subscriptions
Great video sam! I would love to see you dive into some chaka khan or Minnie Riperton. It would be insightful to know how their phenomenal voices work.
I know you get a lot of requests, but my favourite performances from this set is To Be So Lonely. I wonder what you'd make of it.
"I can get frustrated by Frodo for nine hours" what a mood 😂
sam i love your thumbnails lmao
YESSS, ANOTHER HARRY AND SAM COMBO!
i think harry styles has had that distortion in his voice from his early times in one direction even (live performances of more than this for example) from when he was a young boy...i think it would be interesting to see a video of Sam analyzing how the voice changes through the years, as in Harry Styles, or Joni Mitchell that has recordings of the same songs that are very different, and years apart from one another.
