As a former Bob Evans server, I can tell you that lots of our food is microwaved. I wish I were BSing you, but I’m not. I have no reason to talk shit on them or lie on a RUclips comment. The turkey dinner? None of that is made fresh. I used to gag whenever I’d smell that turkey straight out of the microwave. Even the country fried stake is frozen and then fried. Like, you’re telling me that a kitchen can’t pound a steak, bread it, and fry it?! All of our soups come in big plastic bags that we’d just heat up in the steam table, so they aren’t made fresh either. The pot pies are all frozen and then baked per order (that’s why we run out often - because they can’t defrost more batches quick enough to pass safety inspections, so however many they pulled in the morning is the set number we can sell that day). The salads are pretty safe, because those are all made to order (by your server, often times. Just FYI). Breakfast foods are usually safe too, because we do use real eggs and pancake batter. But any of the dinner platters, chances are you’re getting something out of the microwave, or it’s been completely frozen for god only knows how long. The mashed potatoes are legit as well, but they come pre-mashed. We don’t even do THAT in-house.

Brian Bob Evans is not a franchise. It is a corporate restaurant chain. There are no individual owners for each of the restaurants. There are corporate assigned area coaches that manage 10 or so stores in an area. They report up to a regional coach, who reports up to the VPs of the company. All restaurants in the entire company are supposed to adhere to the same standards. Corporate specifically emphasized that a guest should be able to go to a store in one city and have the EXACT SAME experience if they went to another Bob Evans in another city. So before you call other people idiots you should get your own facts right because you’re dead wrong.
Source: worked there for 6 years during high school and throughout college. Also my dad ran one of the restaurants as a GM for 30 years.

I live in the Midwest, Indiana, they're plentiful here. The only problem I've ever had at their restaurants is, each one has a different price for the same items. Seems like none of the cashiers know how much their food cost. The only thing I ever get from them is biscuits & gravy, family size, one quart of sausage gravy, and six biscuits. The correct price is $9.53, but depending on who's taking the order at carry-out, they'll screw it up almost every time, I now take an old receipt to show the person waiting on me how much this order is supposed to cost, as opposed to some incorrect amount they come up with. It's amazing to me how somebody can work at a restaurant, and don't know how much their food items cost, Amazing!...

I frequent a Bob Evans on US 192 in Kissimmee, Fl. I only order foods that the cooks actually have to cook. Eggs, biscuits, canned gravy and microwaved vegetables. Everything else is boil a bag like beef stew and chicken. Customers need to ask if their food is fresh or being microwaved or boiled in a bag!

These negative comments are unfortunate to hear. The family sold the company....what a greedy mistake. My MOM went to high school with BOB and worked for him in his first restaurant in Gallipolis, OH in the 50"s. He was a family friend and a person of great respect in our community. We visited the Bob Evans farm often in Rio Grande, OH. The option to crush the restaurant market and sell things retail in the grocery stores is such a bad decision. I'm sure this is not what he wanted. This is so sad

  • @sam.daddieco

There are still quite a few things they make from scratch there... the banana and pumpkin breads being the most notable. Also the chicken noodle soup, beef vegetable soup, bread & celery dressing, coleslaw, fried chicken, homefries, and pretty much all of the breakfast menu. The turkey breast and pot roast are slow roasted in the restaurant, just as you would at home, and of course all the burgers, steaks, grilled chicken breasts, eggs, and breakfast meats are cooked to order. The mashed potatoes do come in premade but they are not instant and taste like homemade. While everything might not be homemade, it's still a considerable step up from many other chains.

The original Bob Evans Farm, Restaurant, Homestead and Museum are in Rio Grande, Ohio. I remember visiting it during a 5th-grade field trip. My grandmother always loved Bob Evans, but I was never a fan of it, except for their Honey Mustard which was wonderful. They sold it in mason jars in the restaurants. After they began food distribution to grocery stores, they changed the packaging and started selling it in grocery stores, but unfortunately, they also changed the formula. Never been to a Bob Evans where the service wasn't sorry & the food was cold or late or undercooked or just wrong. Life is too short & I spend too much time making the little money that I get to throw it away at Bob Evans & Co. Ash heap of failed eateries.

Bob Evans went to hell after it got bought by a giant megacorporation. They used to have farm raised catfish, it was their major advertizing point, blasted on their commercials all across America, _"Bob Evans, down on the farm..."_ ...But they don't have it anymore. They still have potroast hash & eggs, but the last time I went there it was cold, and so was the coffee, and the service _sucked._ I always sat at the counter, when your coffee's empty you set it on the edge and the next waitress that comes past refills it. At least, that's the way it _used_ to be. Now they just walk past and ignore it. And when you say, _"Hey, scuse me, can I get some more coffee?"_ They give you the stinkeye. When the food was cold, I eventually caught her eye and told her "It's cold, I don't want it, I'm not paying for it." I paid for my coffee and left. I haven't been back since. _Why did they take the catfish off the menu?!_ Of all things... _Catfish! Fried catfish! I want my catfish, damnit._

Even though, I don’t eat out in the restaurant much these days, well they got rid of their fried chicken. I still buy Bob Evan’s roll sausage on a quite regular basis, because, I love the slight red pepper flavor that’s in it! Also, I heard apparently that was the sausage McDonald’s used to serve, and, course you could tell by the taste, the thick patties and, you could always see that hint of red pepper. Cause, I my regular thing mostly at McDonald’s when, I started eating less less in calories was a 2 biscuits with sausage patties and, 2 hash browns. Now, McDonald’s Sausage patties aren’t fit to eat, they changed to a cheaper sausage!

These big chains wonder why they do not do as well. I can day food quality, changing of menu items, and not cooking it fresh. If you microwave your food, people know. Money now a days is precious to consumers. If they eat out, they want something better than they can do at home. You microwave it and charge twice as much, consumers will stop coming in and make it instead at home or go to a place that actually cooks good fresh food.

Yes we dined at bob Evan's at Reynolds & heather downs the restaurant ( Easter night pretty dead only ove other table in the whole " restaurant "so serveiris was fast , no problem I order the Turkey & dressing " nice u get two sides which I got veg ( corn mash potatoes & I always ask for mine gravy on the side Cause all the bob Evan's gravy are all to " salty it shouldn't because they don't make their gravy from scratch !! It is powered comes in a bag !! U just ad water to it !! So I can only think of two things that goes wrong w/ that !@ First ! Who ever is mixing the gravy isn't falling the direction right ?? Just eyeing " it ? About how much water should go into it ?? " or the cook is a smoker" & their " taste buds are " shot ! Smoking to much !! By " not knowing it is to salty ?? ( can't taste anything !! ?? Or the gravy is left on the steam table where no one watch if the steam table went dry ?? Whic h !! If u leave it at the steam table w/ no water in it !! The gravy will dry up ! & that will make the gravy to " salty !! So if u order anything w/ gravy !! Alway ask to have your " gravy on the side !! This way u can " control how much " gray to put on your food !! Or your diner will be " ruined !! By the gray being to " salty !! & u won't have any problem w/ your dinner !! ( word to the " wise ") like I sad the restaurant was ( dead" that even ) ( Easter night) serveies was nice " I don't care where u go eat at bob evan " their " gravy are " always " salty??? ( go " figure !! ??) " one thing about their " gray ??? " the gravy is " powered " comes in a bag !@ al u have to do is read the bag to know " how " much ! ! Water to ad to it !! ??? I don't know !! ? ( check it out for yourself !! ? I bet u & I win all the " time !! U owe me !! HA" HAVE A " BLESS YEAR EVERYONE & STAY " AWAY FROM THE " GRAVY !! " HAAA " OK !
