It’s another rabbit hole you’ll get into just watching “Meaning of Spring Day” videos and then documentaries of Sewol Ferry tragedy. And then googling about the Korean president that was impeached and sentenced to prison, resulting from mishandling that incident. Just wow. BTS low key standing up to the powers that be and making a song about something so tragic. Keep in mind, the children on that ferry were JK’s age (born the same year he was). Spring day is my absolute fave BTS song. And that took me a long time to sort it out in my head coz it’s so HARD to find a favorite amongst all of their GREAT songs. Lol! 🙌🏼
@@abigailhardy1446 I am a long time army, I know about the background of Spring Day, it's a beautiful song :) But it's not just about that ferry tragedy, and I am not comfortable romantizicing such a painful incident :( There's more to the song than the references in the music video about the ship. But yeah, I have read about that too.
Spring day it's the most special BTS song of all time, not just for the music and lyrics, but because it's about a tragedy that happened in Korea, and BTS stand against the governament of that time with the hidden messages in this song and the music video (so clever)... one of my fav song ever. I'm actually really glad that you didn't start with Dynamite, Butter or PTD. Not that they're bad songs, but I feel like people often listen to their English songs first and judge them based on those songs... When their musical catalog is so much more than just catchy/pop songs.
@@falling_for3171 They aren't bad song and they weren't just for the charts, they were fun songs realised in a time where things were depressing as fuck, as they were doing other things like vlives and such, to try and cheer up people in the pandemic. It's okay to not like the songs, just don't push that agenda that they made them just for charts.
That beautiful and heartfelt "Spring Day" was written by RM. ARMY call it "queen' since it's the longest-charting song on Melon's digital chart to date. It has now spent 6yrs on the chart.
If you liked this, you’d probably like their Festa Room Live Performance- its also kinda short but it’s a great medley of songs and most you don’t know!
Lots of people claim that Spring Day is about the Sewol ferry tragedy. It' was not written specifically about that incident but revolves around the themes of loss, longing, grief, and moving on. RM stated that he wrote the lyrics when thinking of his middle and high-school mates, from whom he hadn't heard in a long time. But the visual concept of the video might be inspired by that tragedy as well as by the book "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" and the movie "Snowpiercer" from 2013. Interesting to know that it is still on the Melon Charts and has been there for over 6 years already. It's in the South Korean Gaon year end charts for the last 6 years as well. 2017 (13), 2018 (31), 2019 (48), 2020 (47), 2021 (45), 2022 (76) It's a beautiful song
Yeah. The song itself was not about the accident, but I am one to believe the storyline of the MV itself was. Too many symbolism’s throughout the video at a time that the injustice of it could not be spoken.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Thank you @MsStageact! Perfectly said. I try to tell people this but it never goes over well. How hard is it to understand the origin of the song!! I’m troubled that reactors are not allowed to enjoy the song for what it is before being pushed into the whole “Spring Day” explanation. Sigh. But thank you. 🤗
Before you can say for sure that it was not about Sewol Ferry incident AT ALL, I would encourage you to learn more about the tragedy and what it was like in South Korea at the time. The sitting president at the time handled the situation HORRIBLY, and it was one f@ck up after another. Trying to cover up one bad (greedy) decision after another, and not holding powerful and rich people accountable when this tragedy was clearly 100% avoidable, and even when the ship sank, the passengers COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED had the proper authorities acted correctly and promptly. The fact that there was political upheaval after that (families of the victims as well as other humanitarian rights activists were up in arms over this horrific tragedy), there were protests for MONTHS - no one in South Korea was NOT affected. Add to the fact that the children who perished were all JK’s age and BTS themselves secretly donated a lot of money to the family of the victims, we know that this incident weighed heavy in their hearts. We also know for a fact that then president Park also went after artists who sided with the family of the victims because it painted her and her administration in such a bad light (even though she deserved it). Lots of singers, rappers, painters, etc were being black listed by the government if they protested against the administration. You can watch documentary by the New Yorker here on RUclips to learn more. This all happened in S Korea by the way, not the US. In Korea, if the powerful want to silence people, they put it into action. If BTS had said outright this song is for the people that didn’t see any justice, the victims and families of the victims, they would have been BLACKLISTED. This incident happened in 2014, back when BTS were not as popular and as influential as they are now. Do you honestly think Bighit would have let them get blacklisted before they even had a good chance to make a difference with their music? They also released Spring Day in 2017 when Sewol Ferry tragedy was being highlighted again because it had been 5 years (anniversary) and STILL no justice. Also keep in mind President Park was impeached in Dec of 2016 - so FINALLY BTS could actually sing about the tragedy and not get punished by the administration responsible for that tragedy. Koreans are not blatant about stuff… they prefer to do things low key. The MV makes it clear it’s about the tragedy (even though they hide it well enough that it’s still up for people’s own interpretation). It’s hard to miss the point especially when they put so many Easter eggs in there, but the actual lyrics are written beautifully to have double meanings (obviously making sure the audience can relate). Also, the Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas - the story behind that is the children bear the burden while the rich and powerful continue living as they please. VERY much like what happened with the Sewol Ferry incident. You can interpret it however way you want. For Korean citizens, the Sewol Ferry incident comes to mind. For international army who have their own loss and mourning, the song definitely touches their hearts as well. It can be about school friends (as Namjoon suggests) because they want it relatable and not just confined to that one tragedy. But my point is - if they wanted to sing about the horrific tragedy that happened to innocent kids, kids their age in THEIR country, how they were FAILED by the powers that be, then they wouldn’t be so blatant about it especially because of the political climate, and possible backlash. A president was ousted and sent to prison - the Sewol Ferry incident got the ball started on that, and it affected their whole country. It’s not an incident that could be forgotten or taken lightly. If this is how BTS wants to reach out to their countrymen about it, I say it’s pure genius. And yes, it’s still charting IN KOREA. Hmmm… I wonder why.
@@abigailhardy1446 I know all about the Ferry tragedy and I’m taking nothing away from its importance. And it’s absolutely fine to interpret a song to fit your own life, but the origin of the song should also be understood. I never said anything about the MV not possibly having content connected to the ferry tragedy. But the original song was written for a different reason. That’s what I think reactors should know. BTS has never shied away from speaking out, so I’m not convinced they lied about their song to protect themselves. This is my opinion based on interviews with RM and Suga.
@@abigailhardy1446 I know everything about the Sewol tragedy, because I was interested in it, after I'Ve seen an explaination video about the Spring Day MV. I know about the blacklisting of aritsts and I know about the corruption. That private divers tried to save the children, because the officials did nothing and risked not only their lives, but also their jobs and reputation. I know that the media lied about the rescue mission. I know that the parents of the the missing children were accused of being money hungry. I know about the protests and I vividly remember the man who bowed down on the floow in court and said that he's not interested in money but the truth. Nevertheless, RM himself said that the song was NOT written about this incident. And why should I doubt that? The MV however had many references to the tragedy. And btw. I'm not from the US. Not everybody who's not Korean is American :)
Spring Day deserves some research to fully comprehend what it is all about (the 2014 Sewol Ferry disaster where 300+ school children died/drowned when the ferry sank (due to the Korean Government being involved in a corrupt cover up-long, involved and sad story). BTS went out on a limb making this song, but they wanted to do something for the families that suffered such losses-in spite of being possibly blacklisted by the South Korean Gov't. It has remained on the charts to this day. If you Google the Sewol Ferry disaster you will find a lot of videos and explanations. That all being said, it IS a beautiful song, and one that touches the heart of all who hear it, knowing what it is about.
There are so many uncertainties in this world, but good to know that some things are certain, one of them being that you’ll always take the chance to say J-Hope is your guy when he’s on-screen.😁😂
Well, we are deeply sorry for not recommending Dyna or Save Me enough times, please forgive us this intolerable deed 😂 But to be fair, they have over 300 songs and all of them are masterpieces, so we have a hard time choosing sometimes lol
There's a whole story behind the beloved Spring Day. This song is like a national anthem in SK. It has never left their charts since it ws released in 2017. Its the longest charting song in SK history. There is an official mv and and explanation video...I highly recommend both. It is a pretty heavy song.
Congrats on your band!!! That’s awesome! Thanks for another great reaction; really enjoyed watching it. You HAVE to react to 2021 BTS Festa Room Live next. It’s a medley of some of their lesser known but equally amazing songs. Please! Thank you!

I miss hearing you talk: MY GUY. Yes, he's mine too. They all have incredible talent, but I confess that I love the way Hobi masters his flow. He dances with his body, the lyrics he writes and his voice. It's like I'm on a roller coaster ride and I love his versatility.
Love your reaction. You need to watch J-Hope Lollapaloosa performance. It is long but Army will watch it with you. Also their solo work is amazing. RM Wild Flower, Jimin set me Free Pt. 2 and Like Crazy and recent August D album Haegum and Amygdala.
I'm a classic rock girls, but BTS lyrics appeard in the right moment in my life. After lost Kurt Cobain, lost Chester Bennington, lost Renato Russo...BTS LYRICS are my anchor now. I'm, 47yo, from 🇧🇷💜🇧🇷. And I love your vibe too! ♥️🇧🇷
Never ask dancers to just sit there, sing, and NOT dance!! These guys just gotta move! Love your reactions- good luck with your tour- please come to the PNW! 💜
If I’m correct, Spring Day was written for the ferry disaster that happened in South Korea in 2014. Hundreds of children were killed it was the biggest maritime disaster in South Koreas history. Devastating. On a happier note, thank you for all your with ARMY 💜💜
Listened to Spring Day after few weeks today and God I'm crying mess. I also miss someone and i know I'll never meet them again. Spring Day is forever THAT song. Truly a queen.
Spring day is an important song to me. I got into it when I started listening to bts and didn't realise what the song was about at the time. Coincidentally, it was around the same time my grandad past away. It ended up being a song of great comfort to me.
That last beautiful song is called Spring Day. It has remained on the charts every year since its release. It is a very deep song about a terrible tragedy in South Korea. The Sewol Ferry Tragedy.
My spouse asked me who the woman singing in Dynamite was... and we figured out that they thought Jimin's part was sung by a woman lol. We both love his beautiful, delicate voice in it. I love Hobi's pretty voice in Spring Day. Wish the studio version was a little more fair. I think Jin does well emoting in the song. They're all so good individually and together. Save Me is one of my favorites. The mv is one of the more simple ones but so well done!
If you enjoyed Spring Day, you should check out the explanation videos as to the meaning behind the song. It's very deep and took on a new meaning in Covid. It's the Queen of BTS songs for a reason
One more before I go… as a 54 year old… these guys between the lyric and the harmonies and just individual voices can still make me cry laugh scream out in fun and excitement… they touch every part of our souls… they leave no one out. And of course last but not least they are all very handsome fellows. Lol grandma is not blind. 😂❤
I loved that you focused on the lyrics of Spring Day. The meaning of the song has shifted so much over the years with the MV taking on the bulk of the focus and even in recent years Army using it to say see you later to the boys. Most people don't appreciate the song as is, raw, as much as it deserves.
What’s crazy (sorry if someone already mentioned it) is that J-Hope asked Jung Kook to harmonize the rap part right before they sung the song. If you watch the behind the scenes he even quickly goes over the words with JK. It’s just crazy how fast and beautifully he was able to do it.
Thank you for calling out the harmonized rap. 😭💜 (And it’s great to back into the fizzy pop tracks…it means you can appreciate their talent rather than dismissing them.)
Spring Day was written by RM in honor of the victims and survivors of the Sewol ferry tragedy in 2014 that took the lives of over 300 people in South Korea; most if them were high school students close in age to the BTS members at the time😞😢💜
No, RM did not write this song for the Sewol ferry survivors. The Korean people adopted it to remember the people and all the school children that drowned. Beautiful song!
QUEEN SPRING DAY is such a beautiful song. Sometimes it's difficult to listen to without some tears. Save Me is such a great song with the best dance break. Still wishing for j-hope at Lollapalooza. 🤞💜
Happy to see your honest reaction and apreciation for BTS, you need to react to Jimin new solo album release songs "like crazy " and "set me free", and soon he will be part of the OST for the Fast and furious Movie with song Angel Pt1 in collaboration with Jvke , MuniLong, KodaKBlack we only had preview and is amazing, like you said Jimin vocals are unique and so great.
Please watch the music video for Spring Day and the explanation video as well. This song has been in the charts constantly for so long................. and with very good reason
Just you know there is J-Hope solo album Jack in the box and the songs More and Arson are my favorite! They are sooo good! Also not sure have you head Epiphany by Jin, you did enjoy The Astronaut, Epiphany is also amazing. Jump is also so fun and great to watch their live videos!
Ever since I learned what Spring Day is about, I can't listen to it anymore without ugly crying every time. There is a sincerity in BTS that idk, it just hits so deep and makes you feel things. Another song that made me cry is Butterfly, and that one made me cry even without knowing the lyrics or what it was about!

The Astronaut is indeed a great song! Missing Jin everyday while he’s serving his country.
Same.... j-hope is my guy too...
Let's go j-hope's stan.
The way you roll your eyes every time you hear Jimin 😅 like a mini orgasm 😂
"thats my guy right there" that's so me😹😹
Every time he said it... I replied "mine too"😂😂😂
I'm a classic rock girls, but BTS lyrics appeard in the right moment in my life. After lost Kurt Cobain, lost Chester Bennington, lost Renato Russo...BTS LYRICS are my anchor now.
I'm, 47yo, from 🇧🇷💜🇧🇷.
And I love your vibe too! ♥️🇧🇷
Man, I was about to go to sleep when I saw this was posted. I really enjoy watching how much you enjoy watching them. The J-Hope pauses give life.
Yes it's was. It's was called the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. It's was truly a devestating moment for South Korea's history.
You should watch a full concert someday... hobipalooza is full on youtube :D
One similarity between all Armys is that we can't help but randomly say "BRUH I LOVE THEM" in the middle of watching their videos lol
You should listen to jimin solo songs, lie, filter, serendipity, like crazy, set me free, akone, face off, vibe, with you, promise, christmas love
Great reaction! Don't you love when the vocal line harmonizes with the rap line. J-Hope and JK, and Suga and Jimin.
i can't help but to say this.. i love everytime you said this is my guy to Jhoooooooopppeee😁😁😁💜💜🥰🥰
J-hope❤❤
I love jimin's voice!!
Spring Day always makes me cry thinking of the over 200 high school students who drowned with nobody to come save them.
BTS:..
this guy: HAND OFFS ARE AMAZING
Living for your *pause* “this is my guy” moments 🤣🔥
Reaction jhope at lollapaloozaa plis 😍 he' so amazing 🔥
You need to watch the explanation video of spring day. It means so much to our fandom
i kid you not everytime hobi comes on the screen i just know whats coming😂and im here for it
Your bias is J-Hope (our sun) but your bias wrecker it’s Jimin (my love)❤❤❤❤❤💜💜💜💜💜
I’m 53 and my eyesight works fine too! I love these boys and appreciate a good reaction…
Welcome to army family 💜
I loved that you focused on the lyrics of Spring Day. The meaning of the song has shifted so much over the years with the MV taking on the bulk of the focus and even in recent years Army using it to say see you later to the boys. Most people don't appreciate the song as is, raw, as much as it deserves.
I absolutely love it whenever you say my guy right there when you see Hobi 🥺. Because same!!!
Hobi, the king of adlibs. 💕🐾💕🫰🏻
Hahaha, too funny. Kind of love that you've reacted to their stuff so often without ever having listened to their biggest song ever 😂
Its been 6 years since Spring day released, but queen is still charting on top 💜
Its Jimin not Imin lmao with a J! Lmao 🤣 once you Jim In you can’t Jim out! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Finally I found again my another Co-Jhope Stan😍😆
Jhope is my guy toooo 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
X 2 💜
X3
X4
This version of "Save Me" *chef's kiss*
I hope you’ll react to bts festa room live 2021 sometime soon
You should do 2021 Festa Room Live next! It's also a medley of songs like this
His bias jhope , but everytime jimin sing he fall and fall again whitout realising it
Hobi I miss you😢❤❤
Happy to see your honest reaction and apreciation for BTS, you need to react to Jimin new solo album release songs "like crazy " and "set me free", and soon he will be part of the OST for the Fast and furious Movie with song Angel Pt1 in collaboration with Jvke , MuniLong, KodaKBlack we only had preview and is amazing, like you said Jimin vocals are unique and so great.
Please watch the music video for Spring Day and the explanation video as well. This song has been in the charts constantly for so long................. and with very good reason
JIMIN is my favourite and also you give me a bit of DAMON SALVATOR vibes lol.
That jimins part is so iconic😍😍😍👏👏👏
Just you know there is J-Hope solo album Jack in the box and the songs More and Arson are my favorite! They are sooo good! Also not sure have you head Epiphany by Jin, you did enjoy The Astronaut, Epiphany is also amazing. Jump is also so fun and great to watch their live videos!
You should consider a collab
JHope is an excellent singer and he is also a clown in a good way his laugh cracks me up
Spring Day is about an accident with a ship who sink in Korea. And many school student died... There is a a dumentary about is.
I've noticed that you like J-Hope. His Lollapalooza concert is the best ever concert. You will love it!
Arson x More
Jhope's live performance is a must watch! 🤘🏻
Epiphany - Jin
Set me free pt2 - Jimin
Another great live performance was their 2021 Live Festa Room performance
RM and Suga helped with the writing of Spring Day. The group as a whole is multifaceted!!
What I heard was "Spring Day" is a song to remember the victims of the 2014 Sewol ferry accident. whose all victims are school students. 😢
Man, spring day hits so hard. Always reminds me of my late sister and how much BTS’s music pulled me out of the darkness of losing her
