I've worked in the fashion industry for 40 years, and these tips are 100% right on. I wish sales people in fashion understood how to fit customers ! Things like batwing sleeves or turtlenecks for my 36G build.. seriously ! So unflattering. And the wide belts ! Arrgh ! so true. This video 10/10
@@PetiteDressingit was a great video but it hurt to see some of my favourite clothes shown as a do not wear. The batwing shirts and thigh-fitting jeans that I love, are a bad combo for my short and apple-shaped body. I have to seriously consider my wardrobe after your video:D At least my love for A line dresses is in line with your advice:D Thank you for your videos!:)
I wish inuad known that one years ago. I first heard of that hack on What Not to Wear. Before then, I used to wonder why most t-shirts made my chest look bigger than it already was.
I've been watching the video only for 50 seconds, and I already love it ))) You have such a refreshing sense of humor!!! Thank you so much, Chi, for wearing 4 bras to help us, we love you for that!
Thank you for a REAL video about our shapes that are mostly ignored by the industry, causing us to have to gather info from EVERYWHERE and from hit-or-miss experiences. Thank you so much!!
I've so happy to see you grow from strength to strength in the production level of your videos and presentation. Totally support you and your enthusiasm to get the word out there that us petite girls just need to be in on a few hacks to look longer and lithe in our form! Your tips are amazing, and unlike other channels, you always illustrate the tip so we can have a clear visual of what is a Do and a Don't! I also love watching you because, my skin tone is the same... and I like seeing what colors match you, hence i know they will match me too. Wishing you lots of luck and health!
I absolutely agree with pushing up long sleeves. I'm not sure that I agree with why it works, but it works! I've been doing that for 50 years and people always think I'm taller than I am. I credit the sleeve trick as one of the reasons why.
I'm really impressed.I really haven't found a channel like yours that talk about fashion that are the best in different body shapes and those that do not fall under the body classifications.I myself is a petite and have a borderline rectangle to hourglass body but have big boobs and medium butt and its always a struggle for me to look good in a clothes, your channel is really helpful to someone like me who have the uncommon body type to dress the best for my body shape. Thank you ,love your channel.
I agree with most of your tips except for one. I just had a professional style analysis, and even though I am 5'0" and have an hourglass/curvy figure, I have a very long torso for my height (long-waisted). So in my case, I can wear wide belts! I learned that your vertical proportions (upper body, torso, and leg length) are just as important as your horizontal (bust/waist/hips) measurements in determining which styles to wear.
I think I definitely have a longer torso, but than I have a short waist (I do have a defined waist, but then the smallest point of my waist is situated a bit above than normal, that means I have a short waist) so does this apply to me too? I want to make my legs look taller.
Chi, as always, your videos are informative and your energy is so infectious and delightful. I'm a short, curvy girl and I always wondered why pointed toe shoes didn't make my legs look longer: THICK ANKLES!! Round toe shoes absolutely are best for me and your video is the first I've seen that confirmed that for me. You are the best. THANK YOU. xoxo
Have you tried those shoes that has have a slightly longer and slightly wider point ? i think it can work, best if the color matches your skin tone.. Atleast it worked for me, i have a medium to thick ankles.
It's the first time I have commented on one of your videos, but I've been following you for a while. I enjoy a lot your format; you provide a lot of valuable information. And today, it's like you're speaking directly to me. Thanks, Chi!
Hi there "my beautiful darling" Chi! I love that greeting, so sweet... I don't know how you don't have more followers. Your videos are so well done, SOOO funny, I love your sense of humor. Thank you for helping us petite girls to dress!
These are great tips. I would also add: 1) look for vertical elements, like vertical stripes, buttons all down the front, and pants and shorts with proper center creases ironed in; and 2) avoid very thin straps such as spaghetti straps on tops and dresses, on shoes, and belts narrower than one inch, these delicate details emphasis the heaviness of full figures, wider straps on tops and dresses visually cut the chest width and very thin belts or straps make the figure look bigger than it is. I would also avoid very dainty shoes, slightly chunkier ones make the legs look thinner, so choose block heels rather than stilettos. A larger figure teetering on delicate stiletto-heeled shoes make the body look out of proportion, and get shoes that don’t squeeze the flesh of the feet or legs.
I disagree with thin straps and dainty shoes part. If you look into Kibbe typology, you'll learn that some petite, curvy figures have enough dramatic angles to them (like, sharp elbows or sharply shaped waist). They tend to look their best with soft, flowy shapes, finished with something angular, animated, almost dramatic. They are made for daintier shoes and thin straps, of course to a certain body size, for very plus size women more balance is welcome. Still, I feel that you are a good observer and I strongly recommend to look into Kibbe to become even better. I'm still learning this myself :) have a good one

I love your humor and videos Chi! Hoping for more videos for the short, curvy, rectangle-shaped, short torso and with thick legs like I am. 😅 I am learning a lot from you and spent my weekend binge-watching your videos! Thank you! ❤️
So right about the puffy sleeves. I tried on this lovely lightweight white shirt with long-ish poet like sleeves. I was so tempted because I feel it is trending for this summer and I like some arm coverage; but there was no way to half tuck that shirt and slim it out - my upper body looked enormous with those Renaissance sleeves! Also true about the wide belts - they go right to my bustline - but I love the look of them so much!
Thank you! Have been a subscriber for a while. This is very helpful as I’m trying to build a social and work wardrobe on an apple shape. Been hiding under too big tops and long cardigans. Have come to accept the need for tailoring, though, because the larger the size, the manufacturers increase arm holes and leg widths way out of proportion and straight legs become wide frumpy legs on my heavy 5’1” frame. My hiney doesn’t fit well in petites, so I’m forced to tailor.
Love your tips!! Your channel is my favorite and i always click as soon as you post. The 3/4 sleeve trick is so true! I learned this years ago, and have tailored my sweaters to all show my wrists now. ;)

I am very grateful you have a kind eye to consider all different women's shapes and what suits them best. I love A line for skirts and dresses, monocromatic is my jam, straight leg are my faves as they highlight my toned thighs and give freedom to the rest of the leg, so it looks fantastic. Hahahaha I do have the butterfly kind of jersey/top... that made me laugh because it is true that it does not look good on me as compared to V neck tops... these are the best! I am 5'1" and have been overweight for the vast majority of my life. This video was very validating to watch because I've been doing many of these things for a long time as I've tried to learn how to dress my shape. I can't recommend rolling up your sleeves enough. I love 3/4 length sleeves (easier to roll up and even those get rolled up, haha). Basically if the sleeves can be rolled up, they will be- even on jackets, if I can manage it. Big no-nos for me: Bermuda shorts- makes my thighs and calves look thick since they hit right above the knee. Shoulder stitching that ends a ways down the arm instead of at the top of the shoulder- makes my arms look bigger and makes the whole top look kind of frumpy. Bubble hem tops- was asked if I was expecting once. I wasn't :/ Solid-colored tops- very unforgiving on me. Patterns work much better on me. I can wear solid tops if the fabric has textures or ruffles, or if it's heathered. Otherwise, they're a no for me. Highly Recommend: Flutter sleeve tops- I LOVE these. They're feminine, dressy and look flattering on my arms. Thanks for all your tips!!!
Great video & your videos are getting better & better but I would like for you to do a video for a true curvy petite woman & not curvy as in plus size women bcuz there is definitely a difference bcuz I’m short & curvy but I’m not plus size.
😉 Sorry, the rules are the rules. They apply no matter your size. I'm not petite or morbidly obese either, but I still have exaggerated hourglass⏳ proportions that require special handling. ⭐Chi is 💯% on target🎯 here. In fact, she has the absolute BEST & most comprehensive instructional videos that address all types of curves & body types. Inches or height do 🚫 matter. I have more in common with any woman (no matter their particular body type) who also struggles with the dynamic of a long torso & low waist. 🌟Trinny of London is a 5'10" rectangle, while I'm @ 5'7", but she shares that same annoying challenge🤣. If we wear the 😱wrong silhouette or shoe, our legs can seem stumpy🪵. 😉We need to do everything possible to visually elongate↕️ our frame. 💚 Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
I am 4’9”, age 69, and lean towards more of an apple shape; however, I find the most flattering items on me are in your “No” category. Wide belts are a definite preference for me, as well as, batwing style tops. My favorite jeans are skinny jeans, but I have 3 pair of flair jeans that I wear often. The flair jeans are quite fitted throughout the hip and thigh area , expanding outward from the knee. The reason I purchased 3 is because I want the versatility to wear them with various shoe heights. I like my flairs to end slightly above ground level, so I tailored the jeans to accommodate different shoe styles and height, from my lower heeled ankle boots to my highest platform Doc Marten combat and Chelsea boots, pumps, and heeled ankle boots. I love skinny jeans as you can usually wear just about any style of shoe. Relaxed fit jeans seem to give the illusion of added weight and also make me look matronly. 🥴😬 This style of jeans look great on mid height to tall women, but on my munchkin body, not so much! Oh, the woes of being the incredible shrinking woman!
Relaxed-fit jeans work for those of us with heavy legs. I've always had heavy legs; in fact, even when I was a size 3, at 5'3", I couldn't wear tall boots because my calves were too big. I wear Lee's relaxed-fit jeans because I can get them on. I can't even get Levis on at all. So on women like me, relaxed fit looks normal. If I had thinner legs, I would wear more slender jeans to fit my legs.
I'm 4'9 curvey petite. Years ago I loved my flares that I got fitted. What brands did you find to accommodate your small frame? Any luck with blouses and tshirts brands?
I've worked in the fashion industry for 40 years, and these tips are 100% right on. I wish sales people in fashion understood how to fit customers ! Things like batwing sleeves or turtlenecks for my 36G build.. seriously ! So unflattering. And the wide belts ! Arrgh ! so true. This video 10/10
