Great video John. I bought the grey one in 1980 and the colourful one in February 1982. Sold them at Botstock 13 years ago to help pay for the trip, one ran with no lights and the other didn't run but lights on.
Darn. Looked nothing like the Robot innards they showed on Lost in Space! A great ep, but I'm glad I didn't have to pay the power bills! My Brown-with-a-green-chest Martian Fighting Horikawa robot would *never* open the chest and fire. Probably something you could fix in two minutes... I *miss* him, hope someone someday posts a 3D scan of one so I can print a desktop replica. Oh, and a Marx Rock 'em Sock 'em robot, too!
Hello John! First of all thank you for your youtube channel and the great work you do. I have a Horikawa Super Giant, but unfortunately only the rotomatic function is working. The walking function does not respond anymore. As you are the expert in this matter, could you tell me what type of gears are in the lower housing? If it's replaceable, I might try to repair it. If not, I prefer not to bend the tabs unnecessarily. Thank you for your help! Greetings from France.
Depending on the year they were made it will most likely be a plastic gear that will have cracked and would have to replace both gears and the leg crank shaft that has a gear on it. So, a doner part would be needed. Some of the older ones have a metal gear setup and when they wear to the point of not working you can sometimes shift the position of the metal gears to non-worm spots, so things work again.
@@PeterAgostiniJdcap26 That is a good question. Some of these have sat for 20 years some for 40 years. 20 seems like the limit, so maybe every 10 years to keep things happy.
More fun! I like the yellow robot better.
Smooth running, great walking action, something every robot should have these days.

There is a 3d version you can print. I saw it years ago. Will look for it and post if I find it. No functions just a display.

The Doctor is in.

You can buy empty needle bottles at the craft stores and on line then fill with your prefered oil. Sewing machine oil comes in needle oilers as well.
@@Robothut yes that’s why I mentioned it . But how long should one go before exercising their tin toy robot collection?
