I already tried this kind of cable. It is a Mini Display Port to USB-C cable, not Thunderbolt to USB-C. Thunderbolt has a "flash" sign, not a "display" sign. Doesn't work for Thunderbolt but only with Mini Display Port.
It isn’t thunderbolt, it is a mini display port. Both ports have same shape but the electronics differ. This adapter did not work with a usb-c to thunderbolt connection. And even the product page on Amazon says it is incompatible with thunderbolt.

That doesn’t say thunderbolt 2 anywhere on the packaging... very unlikely this product is TB certified
It is not an apple certified seller. But it is working. For apple certified seller you have to pay more than non certified sellers
