Ungla vida perfect a detailed a yarume solla mudyathu. Brilliant. Poriyal chatti a epdi pazhaki epo use panrathu? Aen na athu matum thane dry a use panuvom.
Very Informative. But I have 2 Questions. Would be Grateful if you could reply. 1) I have heard that after Baking, Mud pots are yellowish and porous. After baking the standard practice is that the Potter uses something like a thick paint all around the pot, inside and outside. This seals the pores to some extent, and also makes the pot look neat, and improves the aesthetic appeal. My question is what is this paint that they use. I have heard that it contains a lot of toxic heavy metals like lead. 2) My mother always says that Fish Curry after cooking has to be left in the Mann Chatti, and that it will be more tasty the next day. But you said something that after cooking, whatever curry has to be transferred to another vessel, and that the Mann Chatti has to be cleaned and kept to dry. I just wanted to know from your experience all the reasons why we should transfer curry to another vessel after cooking. Thanks.
Thanks. 1) Potters use a item called "kavi"( used for lining kolams) after baking to give a new look. That is harmless. I am not sure about what they are using now. I keep hearing about chemicals being used. 2) Pot being porous will ooze out the contents when it's new. This might block the pores. It's not easy to clean the pores and it will result in smelly pots. If Mom says then it must be true 🙂. I am a vegetarian. So no idea about it.
Excellent. Thank you sister. After greasing oil when I cook there is a kind of smell which makes us not eat food. What should I do to remove the smell completely? Thank you for detailed information. God bless you.

Thank you very much for a very detailed explanation. The way you described was very lucid and easy to understand. Kudos to you. However, I have a genuine question. Will not the troubles of keeping the mud vessels in healthy and immaculate conditions always outweigh the benefits? I wonder. I can already see a plethora opposite views ready to be flying at my direction - but the question still remains. Yes, in the olden days, mud utensils were used extensively, not only because of availability of genuine unadulterated vessels but due to the fact that there were no alternatives (copper, bronze, etc were available- but they were expensive for the common man and also they were not very user friendly ie unsuitable for all types of cooking). However, the advent of stain less steel completely changed the scene, so much so that the use of mud vessels slowly disappeared. However, of late, it has again surfaced but, in my view, more as a fad than any thing else. I tried to cook in the mud vessels (having paid a bomb to procure) but found it difficult to maintain the vessels in pristine conditions, after following the maintenance instructions to a T. By the way, what are the actual benefits of cooking in the mud vessels? Sorry to be proclaiming this view, it is just my feeling. I may be excused if it is unwarranted!! Vnakkam.
