Last night in Los Angeles I was offered a $3.50 fair for 5 minutes at 3AM. I will never accept those, because the moment one of those riders makes you wait a few minutes at pick up it ruins the trip.

you really do have to cherry pick trips! uber's algorithm is trying every possible way to rip off drivers period. as i was on my way to drop off a passenger last week, and uber sent me a ride request which i thought was nearby to my drop-off location, and i accepted the request without looking very closely. it turned out that i had to drive 6 miles and 12 minutes from the previous drop off spot to the pick up location, and another 18 minutes and 10 miles to drop off that passenger for $7.10, if that was not a rip-off, i dunno what is. i used the driver's app to request a fare review, and uber's automated reply said they reviewed it, and confirmed the fare was more than state minimum requirement. how on earth is 30 minute and 16 mile of driving worth $7.10?

In any business with more providers than there is work for all the providers, there will be a large number of people that will work for less than nothing. Truckers, carpet, cleaners, in fact, all of the trades. You have to be of the mindset that you will, charge more than your competitors, and it can be done! I have done it. I owned my own carpet, upholstery cleaning business, and I think I was the highest priced carpet cleaner in the entire Chicago area. The larger fare trips also generally tip more often. As a matter of fact, I don’t think any ride that I have ever given for less than seven dollars, has ever left a tip.

On Uber, I’ve seen a ride and price I don’t like, I X it out, and it returns even lower. 🤣
You would think the algorithm would be set to raise the price if going back to that same driver, but no. 🤦🏽‍♂️

The first one is actually a Share that the pax booked, but presented to you as an X. It’s Uber’s way to sell one thing to the pax and a different thing to the driver.
Also, min fares in Dallas had gone down to $3.35, and recently I’m seeing $4.38 over and over.

Minimum fares I see here are as low as $3.87 for a 3-4 mile ping, including the drive to the rider pick up location. I ain't turning on my car for crap like that, let alone anything for less than $8. Uber really likes to send you rides that only wants to pay a driver $0.40-0.60 cents, yet they don't take into consideration a driver who has to drive their own car and all expenses are on them. My AR and cancellation rate has increased a lot, its hard to make it better when they keep sending trash.

I think Chris is right. If no one accepts short hops then Uber winds up losing a lot of money. I have no doubt that Uber tracks the market carefully and if they make a change that results in less revenue, the change is quickly reversed.

also I've noticed in last few months that Uber isn't paying any more when trips take longer - I've had trips 5 to 20 minutes longer and get auto response that I got the upfront fare and will be compensated more when trip is significantly longer - they can't tell you what significant means - on the 20 minute one - i called uber support (the others I did not) but complained and kept asking for supervisor and eventually they gave me $20 - probably to get me off phone. No one there knows what significant means - no surprise there.

  • @pianogus
    @pianogus Месяц назад +1

Yes, of course, it's set up to make more money for their big guys. There has to be some drastic change. We have to plan how to execute that. For veterans, we're going to go all private or what? I'm tired of picking up people for a $3.50 (Lyft) in Los Angeles, and get a $4.22 ride that takes me a total of 12-15 minutes for pick up and drop off. It's completely asinine (I even picked up a McDonald's employee delivering food, which of course did not tip). It's very, very strange, and then very tricky to cherry-pick to your advantage, every time. It's SO exhausting. If the algorithm is not set to benefit drivers, then it's a lost battle. The machines won. 'Hasta la vista, baby.'

I should run this test again and screenshot it for you. I took a ride that was ten minutes away from me. Before taking it I looked at the active hours. I have noticed on some rides that active hours are being applied to longer pickups. I ran the test more then once.

Uber charges some riders a higher amount, and Uber is also trying to get you to take the ride, so, they intensify the trip earnings. However, once you get into a rhythm of accepting each ride they send you trips that average your earnings to around 28-30 an hour. As far as raising prices? Prices fluctuate regularly based on times, and demand. C'mon, you know this. What they offer us is also based on available drivers and demand. Nothing has changed boys!

Richmond VA. Minimum fare has been raised to $5.51. Was $4.20, and $3.65 before that. That being said, we will see a 20 min trip priced as the same minimum fare. So the base fare has increased, but the algo doesn't compensate for distance and time!? So, again cherry pick cherry pick cherry pick! I will take .5 mile trips all day for $5.51. (College city) Exactly as Serg said, same shit happening here in VA. And occasionally, I guess the algo gets confused idk, but I will see 1.5 mile trips for $12. Makes no sense

Question to the Rideshare Guys and anyone who is interested. If you could specify the algorithm to be used, what would you specify?
Here are a few questions to get started but there will be many other considerations.
How do you set the price for the rider?
How do you set the payment for the driver?
How do you choose which driver(s) to request acceptance?

I think you're looking at it from the wrong direction. Uber need to consider pricing for the rider firstly and their overall profit secondly and how they distribute the money to drivers comes last of all. The 1.4 mile trip looks over priced for the rider, the 5.2 mile trip looks under priced but overall that's where Uber sees the sweet spot in terms of attracting riders verses setting the price. As far as drivers goes, I doubt we come into the equation much at all if there are enough drivers in the area...and that's where surge charging come in. Uber would only surge if there aren't enough drivers.
Of course my personal experience is from a smaller city where we dont have the luxury of being able to pick and choose too much from rapid fire requests and we need to trust that the Uber algorithm is trying to keep all the drivers as busy as possible with maximum efficiency. I've no reason to doubt that's what they try to do as its in everyone's best interests.
