Its because of this video of Freddie drawing Batman is what inspired me to be passionate about sketching cartoons, and DC characters!! Thank you cartoonblock!!
His technique is very complex!!! He actually drew the outlines of the shadow from memory! Sure i get shading but he drew the outlines before the shading! He is truly talented!
I met Freddie at New York Comic Con 2010- he was incredibly nice to me-pulled me aside and gave me a free sketch of Robin. He was very conversational and talked to me about the steps he took to becoming an artist. Awesome drawing!
@PHiLmcPHiP97 its a pentel aquash waterbrush, lots of companies make them, but pentel is most common. theres just water in the back of it, and he uses it to smear the sketch n wash pencil, which is water soluble.
you have to buy a traveli size watercolor set. it comes with a brush that you can fill with waters and use with your watercolors when you are painting outdoors. just google traveling watercolor sets.
The pencil is a Pentel Graphgear 1000 Drafting Pencil 0.9 mm, about 16-17 $, The black ink pens are Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens, they're pretty cheap Water brushes are made by a lot of diffrent manufacturers, not to expensive Also, the art is freaking amazing !!!
Going to Blick Art Supply today! Getting some General's Sketch & Wash pencils, Niji or Pentel Water Brushes , and some brush pens. Looks like he's using a Faber-Castell brush pen, but Pentel , or even Copic sketch markers would work fine too.
I've never had the opportunity to make it to Comic-Con, is this like the autograph booths where you have to pay to get a picture? If you do, it would still be worth it because you are getting some awesome art.
For all the people saying there are 6 fingers, there aren't. The last finger is just his arm muscle which protrudes past his hand due to the perspective.
any its really whatever you're best with...anything really if you want something to look like in the video here i would use 2b pencil and copic markers. Thats what i use.
Hey Evan, I know what Fred is using except for his paper. I have 80lb paper and I was wondering if it can handle water pencils, I'd like to know what pound of paper he works with. I'm teaching myself how to ink and I wanna try out that watercolor technique. Any advice on creating shadows with markers/pencils would help thanks in advance.
I skimmed the comments and didn't see this, so figured I'd share in case someone else wanted to know... The first song is "Like This" (+ Scratch Hook) by Tantu. Anyway, awesome vid. :)

Yo! Comic Con 2011 in MTL this September with Stan Lee as a special guest hope you can come evan!
your correct shading and shadows gives the artist the manipulation of making 2D drawings seem 3D
He's got a link to the channel who do the music in the description
Damn nice beats! who made that stuff?
U should ask if he can do the same batman or a different one but with more detail and better camera angle if possible
how long did it take him 10 mins?? it'll take me a year!!
when he draws it looks so EASY!
"we did it like dat and now we do it like dis!" lol stuck in my head bro!

Hey Evan, if I don't have a 'Waterbrush', can I use a paintbrush dipped in water? I know it wouldn't be exactly the same, but would it work?
How long did it take him to draw that?

Now THAT'S traditional art.
