  • I took a 10 day trip with my mom to spend time in the Highlands of Scotland. This was such a wonderful time, spent touring the country and trying to see as much of it as we could. Of course we left with many items that we werent able to fit in. So I am already wondering when I get to go back.

    Great piece Kara, I enjoyed this. Some of my clan moved from Scotland to Northern Ireland 411 years ago (plantation of Ulster) ,to give you an idea how long ago that was it was 10 years before the Mayflower landed at Cape Cod . Scots Irish dialect is still widely spoke to this day in many areas of Northern Ireland and some areas in the Republic of Ireland..

    I'm so happy to see you found Connage dairy in Ardersier (for your personalised milk). Did you sample the excellent Cheese Room? - I was born and raised in Ardersier (quite a few decades ago), and it's sadly expanded from a wee village to quite a spread now. - Not even 2 miles out of Ardersier is Fort George, and wondered if you managed to take that in as well. All the best and kind regards to you and your mum.

      Unfortunately, the cheese room was closed when we went. My mom would have had an absolute field day with it! We did pick up a few from the vending machine though. So not a total miss!

    "I´m going to look out for things that may be Harry Potter related..." Erm, how about Edinburgh (Venice of the North)? You know, the CAPITAL, where Harry Potter was written and just about every store is HP related (sadly).

    • @h-Qalziel
      @h-Qalziel Год назад

      Athens of the North, due to its extreme abundance of revolutionary ideas that shaped the world, the large amount of neoclassical architecture, and similar topography with a large hill in the middle of the city.
      Also called the Reykjavík of the South, a reference to its nickname 'Auld Reekie' meaning 'Old Smoky' in Scots. Reykjavík meaning 'Smoky Bay' in Icelandic.

    So you drove with the car for most of the time right? Is there any other option you can choose if you’re in the highlands, except for these day tours with a bus?

    • @h-Qalziel
      @h-Qalziel Год назад +1

      There are also trains that go around the highlands, however, due to the sparse population of the highlands they don't have extensive travel routes or stop much during their journeys.

    • @joemorris5288
      @joemorris5288 Год назад +1

      Little tip for you, ifyou are an American and not used to a stick shift make sure you book an automatic car.. You will soon get used to driving on the left, just follow everone else.

    • @johngray8651
      @johngray8651 Год назад

      If you are concerned about driving on the left wait till you drive on single track roads. These are roads were there is only one lane so you will have vehicles driving towards you. There passing places every 100yds or so for you to pull into to let vehicles pass or overtake.

    • @elliebeep27
      @elliebeep27 Год назад +1

      @@johngray8651 Sounds like driving in rural communities in Northern California, so not too bad excepting the 'other side of the road' stuff. :-) Definitely getting an automatic if we choose to drive around!

    • @johngray8651
      @johngray8651 Год назад

      @@elliebeep27 In UK you need a licence which allows you to drive a car with a manual gear otherwise it needs to be an automatic.

    • @elliebeep27
      @elliebeep27 Год назад

      @@johngray8651 Interesting! I never had any desire otherwise considering here in the US it is pretty rare to learn how to drive a manual these days.
