    As an ex-BBC TV producer and journalist, I have lived and worked in 17 countries and Dubai police really are amongst the best there are. They are very professional in my opinion and they are very fair in the way the handle people. Sadly I do have one gripe which sad to say will always stick with me. I had a disabled wheelchair bound friend visiting and he carries an International disabled notice (which includes Arabic) to use in a car. We went to MOE and with little spaces available we parked in the disabled spot and displayed the notice, I got his wheelchair out and helped him from the car and we did the tourism thing in MOE. I got a hefty fine and my car was impounded . The security people said the policeman never got out of the car to look at any notice. I always see Porsches and Range Rovers parked in disabled parking and I see apparently healthy young men and women get out of the cars and walk away. Do they ever have their Porsche impounded I wonder. This is an event that will stick with me.

      As I have been living here for the past 23 years, I can definitely say this: like all countries, uae has a little bit of corruption in the police, 98% of them are super awesome and kind and caring, but the 2% are what residents here call fine hungry, basically they will seek every opportunity to fine anyone and everyone except rich people. Henceforth I am a little nervous putting this comment out.

      A couple of years ago , I remember this policeman fined me for being a minute late to putting another parking ticket as I was approaching the car to replace the old ticket. Such a bummer and he insisted I get fined despite showing him proof that I paid for another ticket for the parking lot 😑

    I have to say some of the things here are not true. You can drive and everybody in Dubai drives 20km/h more thenspeed limit and you will never get a ticket. On shaik zaid road you have 100km/h speed limit and you can drive 120km/h you will never get a ticket. Also you can eat and use your cell phone in a car you will never get any ticket.

    • @zack.dar40
      @zack.dar40 Год назад

      He said the technology for seatbelts is still WIP.
      The reason cars going 120 on the speedometer don't get tickets is because speedometers are usually set to show a lower speed by 5 to 8km in cars and more in motorcycles to prevent manufacturers being sued. On the other hand, people going over 120 GPS speed do get tickets. That's usually 125 to 128 on the speedometer on most cars. Tesla does in fact give correct speed on the speedo

      The problem with fines is that someone earning $200,000/year will feel the pain of the fine a lot less than someone on $50,000/year. Fines should not be an amount but a percentage of income.

  • @LeastTango
    @LeastTango 6 лет назад +2

    I have no problem, indeed I am keen, to keep to the speed limit. But there are areas where you don't know the limit exactly and it is easy to get caught even if you are a safe driver. E.g. when the limit changes from 120 to 100 with ambiguous signage. On top of this, the cameras don't always flash but will still trigger so you can keep repeating the same mistake until you check online (not everyone gets the SMS). - This is just a cynical revenue generator. If cameras were there purely for road safety then why aren't they deployed in built up and residential areas where pedestrians are more at risk of being killed by speeding motorists? The real danger on the roads are the crazy speeders who drive 1cm from your bumper flashing their lights but who are clever at avoiding the cameras.

If you take a breathalyzer test and no alcohol is detected you can have your license suspended for refusing to be tested. BTW the head hijacker on the 911 disaster was stopped on the eve of 911 by a Md state police officer for exceeding 100 mph and allowed to continue after being stopped long enough to write a ticket.

      AllAmericanGuy01 here in Ontario, Canada we (owner of vehicle) get a $350 fine and NO demerit points for that reason. You can chose to fight in court but you are legally required to identify the driver in court, which opens room for the ~$600 fine and demerit points.

      ReadyToGo That's also protected under our constitutional rights, they can't force us to identify somebody. I'm assuming you live in Pennsylvania? We have the same issue, so far the best conclusion was they post a sign stating that the red light camera will take your picture if you run it.

      Nope. Same in MO all redlight cameras were required to be taken down.... Mainly because the judge ruled them as an unnecessary reason to increase revenue and it violates our rights..... The same city where our inital law suit was also got sued for pulling people over for flashing headlights to warn other drivers of police ahead... Didnt end well for the PD in that instance either

      Safer for who, grandmothers? Red light cameras and a couple of speed traps may have been alright, but this automatization (which will soon be everywhere, in some form or another) takes all the fun out of driving, meh.

    This can be stupid. In America the speed limit is 65 but on a large majority you HAVE to drive 80 MINIMUM. On a daily I drive 100 and people overpass me and cut me off. Cops don't pull you over but imagine a radar system.

    Man, try to drive without breaking a single traffic it's easy for period of time but we're human in the end imagine you were going 60 and you were distract for a moment and then you were fined with a 130$ because you were accidentally picking up your phone or going over with speed limit by 1 mph or you cross the red light and you were fined with 800$ while this fine is your whole salary, you will find this a bit disturbing. I'm not against the law but come on these fines are ridiculously expensive more than my actual salary in Middle East not all of us have high end salaries!

    Marketing propaganda. The reality is very different. There is no rule of law. Your assets, property and possessions, money can be seized at anytime and there is nothing you can do. Courts? There is no justice whatsoever. Go ahead if you want to believe the marketing crap but that is the reality.
