People say bollywood me nepotism hai ye hai wo hai and when an individual jo itna struggle karke upar aya wo ake sach bata raha hai logo ko to people abuse that person aswell. Anurag Kashyap is an inspiration for many film aspirants. This interview just re-inspired me.
An underrated gem from Anurag Kashyap was Ugly - it is a fantastic movie about human egos and pride killing innocence. He has made very entertaining and gripping movies like Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday, Manmarziyaan Dev D, Mukkebaaz, Gulaal, The Girl in Yellow Boots, Gulaal, Raman Raghav 2.0, Bombay Talkies, Lust Stories, Sacred Games (series) etc. He was also instrumental as a producer in bringing some fantastic movies to the forefront like - Masaan, Queen, Udaan, Lootera, Aamir, Shahid, Lunchbox, NH10, Udta Punjab, Hunterr, Trapped etc. Apart from this writing some magical movies like Satya, Kaun, Shool, Yuva etc. and dialogues too for various movies. He is surely one of the most talented people in the Hindi Movie Industry. He deserves a few box office hits for him to get a taste of this too apart from the critical acclaim that he already gets regularly.
Ugly was in my opinion one of the most hard hitting film I’ve ever seen. You won’t believe I never get afraid to go alone even after watching horror movies. But the last seen on Ugly where they show girl’s body, man I literally almost pissed my pants climbing stairs to my room for few days. 😅
Couldn't agree more. Ugly was one the finest original suspense/thrillers in the Hindi film industry. Highly underrated. The end hits you hard, very hard. And that scene at the police station was one the classics. Girish Kulkarni is a genius - one of the most underrated actors as well.
