    Wont be a problem if
    1. you use it in Natural Phase mode (always do that on transient heavy sounds)
    2. don't filter with 96 dB per octave hehe!

      was gonna comment exactly that! natural phase and a more gentle dB/oct

      I've seen videos where Bob Horn uses some pretty aggressive curves actually. And he seems to know what he's doing. I'm sure like anything else, there's a time and a place for them, otherwise they wouldn't be available.

      Some of these videos are interesting, but it seems that often the theorical knowledge is missing.

    Filtering and EQs change phase relationship. It's EQ 101, isn't it ?

    Awesome info! I Had same thing with highpass on kick. It was about 20-25hz, but actual low end (40-50hz) became longer and tightness was simply destroyed.
    So yeah... Ears.

    I found out about this the hard way a while back. What I do now is not use filters on individual snare bot/top/OH because each would introduce a phase shift that could be destructive in relation to the other snares. Instead I put just one filter on the Snare BUS. Linear phase EQs are also an option

    I use Logic, and the way I work around this issue is I use linear phase eq for high passing and cutting. Then I use whatever eq I want to boost.

    Does this matter if you only use samples?

      In most cases, it’s not as relevant.

    each plugin intoduces latency so basicly your phse might un align in the aftermath

    • @junkawakami3193
      @junkawakami3193 3 года назад +1

      that's why every DAWs should have Latency Compensation to combat this, up to a certain degree, of course.

    Yeah, eq shifts the phase, like it did in almost 98% of the records that you've listened on you life. It's not that hard to search how many degrees are you flipping the phase with a filter. C'mon mate.

    I've always wondered why high HPF/LPF slopes like 96dB exist. Are they only for to fix bad recording problems? Or are they actually the best choice?

    • @DanDuskin
      @DanDuskin 6 лет назад +1

      heavymetalmixer91 they are most useful on stems / groups / aux’s.

    • @heavymetalmixer91
      @heavymetalmixer91 6 лет назад +2

      I've been testing many different slopes since that comment weeks ago, and I came to the conclusion that any slope steeper than 18dB it's too risky to use, as it produces artifacts, like smearing trasients.

      To hi pass everytiing that you want and then check the phase ?

    Enough with the drum samples. Drums on top of drums.. get a sound.

      A a custom PC with an i7 6700k CPU, through a focusrite 2i2 and Audio Technica M50 headphones. The difference in the snares sounds very very subtle, almost so subtle that within a mix of numerous instruments, would be impossible to differentiate. Just in my opinion, sounds like a lot of trouble to go through to eliminate the slight "rattle" of the snare when it's struck.
