Your knowledge is the best. My small space is a combo of court yard and tea house. My problem is editing and finding the elements to complete the vision. Thank you for the examples, I love this!
Awesome video. We are designing our courtyard and want an Japanese inspired garden with only subtle influences. You've helped us to understand what makes a Japanese garden and this has helped us to decide what elements to use in our garden.
Excellent! I want to make a Japenese style garden in my 1000 ft2 side yard, and thanks to this video i now know in the tea garden style. Well produced - you had the names up long enough to read, which often isnt the case on RUclips videos
@@ShizenStyle Thanks. Do you have any recommendations? We are there for four nights, so three full days and one night in Tokyo with a late flight so about 7 hours in Tokyo free. Cheers from NZ
Just going through videos about Japanese gardens. Found your videos and these have been very helpful! Backyard we have a small pond with carved water fall rock and trying to enhance it to Japanese style with surroundings. Front yard we have BIG beautiful rock with couple of low Mugo pines around it. Trying to figure out to thin out them like bonsai-style and add maybe sand/gravel around them. Trying to figure how to keep weeds out and achieve an easy maintenance for those two spots....
Glad you found the channel! Sounds like a nice space. On the website we have the membership if you'd like to upload pics of your space and discuss it. Have a great day.
I crave calm. I akso feel like the front entrance or first part of the home where people enter should be austere and muted. The tea garden style is if the person gets past the formal entrance. thanks for your videos. I feel somehow understood.
This is such a wonderful primer. I am now thinking how best to improve (or rather restore) my garden in Tokyo. The woman who built the house spent a lot of time thinking about little details and there are lots of decisions for me as to if/how I should keep her layout or change to something new.
Keep the areas that speak to you, add your own voice to the rest. A blend of the traditional and the modern is a great way for the garden to continue to grow and be a link to different generations. Try not to create something where the maintenance overwhelms you later though 😏
Thank you for this. I live in a condo with an adjacent raised garden that is 30" above ground, and an irregular shape approx. 7' x 9'. I'm trying to create a Japanese-style garden within those confines. Fortunately, the background includes a beautiful dogwood tree and evergreens. The Tsubo-niwa is the obvious choice, and I'm attempting to keep it simple - not an easy task for a plantaholic! Thx again
I just wanted to say thanks for producing such great video content and also for covering this subject matter so thoughtfully. I've been doing a fair amount of hardscaping with large boulders (5-10klbs +), stairs and paths and stumbled upon your videos while looking for inspiration. I've had some great takeaways but looking for even more content about paths, rock gardens and sculpture. Do you have any books to recommend? I'd love to have something (in addition to your videos) to share with clients for inspiration and ideas. I have two questions, what is the vertical sculpture in this video at 3:15 and where can I find out more about the rake that is used to create the rows in the sand. I want to make one as authentically as possible. Thanks again Joshua.
This is from the The Japanese Garden in Shitennoji Temple called the Gokuraku-Jodo Garden, or the Garden of Paradise. Specifically the dry rock garden is called the "Fudaraku Garden." Here is some more info on it: shizenstyle.com/japanese-garden-in-shitennoji-temple-gokuraku-jodo-garden/
🤦🏻You're right! I meant 11ft x11ft. You do see many 11ft x 2 ft gardens in front of restaurants or with a garden wall behind them. Courtyard gardens are usually bigger than that though.
Knowledgeable, but it's a shame you constantly look slightly angry 😠. A smile would help things along a lot and improve the viewing experience overall.
I have no idea what this guy is about, you don't look angry at all to me. Anyway, I subscribed for your knowledge and analyses of japanese gardens, there are too few serious videos on the matter.

Glad I could help! Good luck on your project.
This is fantastic. Thank you for explaining it so well. I am writing a report for university and this is exactly what I was missing. God bless you!
Glad you liked it and hope it helps!
Much thanks, in many ways, for your gifts and garden delights.
Amazing video, thank you
Glad you liked it!
Thank you! Well done and so appreciated by this admiring, curious novice.
love all your inspiration, explanations, & will take a lot of your info to my japanese garden.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, been looking for this
Glad you enjoyed it!

Great to hear! It's not all about throwing in a lantern and red bridge.
Thank you. Shared this one as well....
Thanks for that!

Thanks for the video! I am studying about the japanese garden and his cultures and you are helping me alot, thanks man!
My pleasure! Have fun exploring them, there are so many different styles.

I agree! I love the calmness of the tea garden. I will have a video going into more detail on this style of garden soon.
Beautiful video. Subbed.

A very pretty, overlooked Japanese garden is the Mytoi Garden on Chappaquidick Island.

Sounds great! Simple can be the most difficult thing. Editing is often harder than writing.

Thanks ✌️
Curious... What zone/state are you in? Beautiful video.
Thanks, I'm in NY just outside of Buffalo. The Zone is 5a.
Wow
I grew up in Yokohama for 16 years. and want to do something on this property in the states. Just on a way bigger scale ⚖️
That sounds cool. Be careful though, the bigger the scale the more you have to take care of!

"A TRUE Japanese Garden ONLY exists in Japan.
Everything else is technically "Sparkling Landscaping."" - Japanese Garden snobs, probably 😂

That never across my mind that he looks angry. Some people could be misjudged because of their natural facial expression.
David wants a kids tv presenter I think. Nothing worse than fake, you do you mate.
