Navigating chronic illness can be incredibly difficult at times. One thing I have found throughout my health journey is that making lifestyle changes and adjustments to your nutrition plan can be overwhelming on top of regular doctors appointments, blood work, and everyday life. In this video I share with you all the adjustments I have made with my nutrition and exercise plan since my diagnosis.

My name is Samantha Boothe and I have been creating advocacy videos on RUclips since 2009. This channel was formerly known as Live Hope Lupus and was created in order to start a community for those living with chronic illnesses. In September 2019, I transitioned to a plant-based diet and I have found my body is responding well to it. Along with my lifestyle change, I am learning to alter my focus more on the positive. My current content will focus on my healing journey, what food I am eating, and everyday life. I will still be posting an occasional update about my health. I hope you all are ready to join me on this crazy journey of healing. We are all learning how to navigate this life together. If you have subscribed, thank you! I appreciate your support and look forward to talking with you all in the comments.

So grateful for finding your channel! I was diagnosed with SLE Lupus Nephritis in 2013. I still struggle trying to work full time and making a life for myself with this disease. It’s hard because I have to choose between staying healthy and financially stable.

Do you think the swollen tendons in the elbows was related to having lupus? I have had elbow pain for months and it’s better when I stop going to the gym but has never fully gone! Thank you for sharing your story!

Your content is truly helpful. Which protocol are you following? Is it rapid recovery, or do you have to follow it lifelong? How long should it be followed? Does the protocol allow you to eat grains like oats or quinoa, and what kinds of protein sources are permitted? Also, does everything have to be organic? Thanks!

I just posted on another of your videos -- have you read Dr. Goldner's book? -- I got my answer here. Thanks. Dr. Goldner's Goodbye Lupus book -- I kind of agree with you. Keep it simple -- green smoothie, lots of water, and omega-3s. I tried it for a week before my last blood test, and my liver enzymes were lower than they have been in years. Is it possible that the diet made that much impact? On the other hand my kidney numbers were a bit worse than normal, and my CRP was through the roof. So confusing! I also am happy to have a small can of sardines or mackerel at meals as a source of omega-3s. I'm fine with chia seeds and flax seeds, too.
I think diets are two-fold: what you do eat, and what you don't eat. It could be that something you're eating is causing a problem, in which case you should avoid it, and it could be that eating specific foods has some benefits. So like you, I'm thinking of having smoothies, drinking lots of water, and getting omega-3s -- either from plant sources or from fish. Oh, and I put cooked sweet potatoes into my smoothies. I still eat all the raw stuff, and that isn't eating meat, but I don't think it's a good idea to eat raw sweet potatoes, but they make the texture of the smoothy ... smoother. smoothier?
I'm so happy that a smart person already came to the same conclusion as me --- I feel like I'm on the right track. And I'd like to go into clinical remission without a bunch of drugs, too. But for now, I'm not going to quit the drugs. It doesn't have to be an either-or.

Just found this video and appreciated your sensible and encouraging comment here. I have all the symptoms of RA and have been researching and trying everything. I did try AIP diet and it helped some but not enough. Thinking of doing a mostly vegan with some fish diet. Is that what you’re still doing? Hope you’re still doing better and better!

I'm going to have to check the sponsor out... I just got back into "regular" nutrition after a long break b/c pregnancy/lupus/heart surgery and she was so dismissive of me wanting to go plant based! I want to do a modified Dr.G like you b/c the cardiac rehab I went to after surgery endorses WFPB with Omega rich foods. Right now I'm debating actually doing Dr.G's program with her since my case is so complicated and I need that oversight so I don't make things worse for myself...
Side note, didn't you go to school for kinesiology? Maybe I'm imagining it, blame the brain fog! 😂

Thanks for this video ❤. I was diagnosed with lupus in 2019. I'm doing well now but I'm too much underweight 😢😢. I'm 24 but my weight is just 39 which is very low. Overall my body BMI is not ok. Whatever I try it's fail. I can't understand the reason. Should I go for a nutritionist???
