Meanwhile, a storm front moves through, damages the remainder of your crop, prices start to fall since supply has increased, and you are out thousands of dollars that you would have made if you had been able to swap out that $5 part.

What’s even worse is they don’t even have a tech for you to call so good luck figuring it out on your own. Also you are wrong about right to repair, you can repair just about anything you want yourself on a Deere, but when it comes to the programming, activations and so forth you cannot do that on your own, which now Deere can do it over the air and don’t even need to send techs out. We have a JD and a NH , 16’ heads on them. We try to run at 15 mph. We have some older farmers that can’t smooth a field out. Our fields are much smoother, but its easier with a 40/50’ disc and packer or digger and packer. But we still are running haybines and center swings

We run 24 and 32 row planters and we do fields that we can’t plant with them. We have one old guy that we have to use our fill in planter for, sometimes I don’t think he disc.it’s a 8 row stack fold
Me and my dad have talked about getting a self propelled but we look at our hay acers and the size of our feilds and the prive of the machine and so were sticking with our deer mower my dad pulls with our case tractor

Having the right tool for the job is absolutely game changing. It can literally make a seemingly impossible nightmare of a job seem fun when you have the right tool for the job.
When I was growing up on the farm, one person could cut the alfalfa. And one person could take the hay up once it had dried. But if you didn't want to drop the balea in the field, we needed at least two people to bale. And to store the bales in the barn, it took two or three people to do it right. Now one person does it all, and from the comfort of an air conditioned cab. I guess that I was born too soon!

50ft tractor mounted in use in EU now. There's video on this platform of them working in Ireland. Kuhn on a 430hp New Holland. Not moving at the speeds mentioned here but at 50ft the output is still huge esp when you consider that a large field where they're operating in Ireland would have less acres in it than the headlands of a lot of N.American fields.
I remember when those rotaries came out back in the '80s. We're one of the first ones to test them at the ranch I was working at. Is a John Deere pull type. Went from 3/4 of a mile an hour and swamp grass to six to seven sometimes 8 mph and swamp grass. Depending upon how smooth your field is, that will work forever
Faster, fastest it's all good, but you gotta remember what good are they at the end of the season. Just sitting there in the farm yard getting rained on, sunshine and dusted up, or making a home for field mices and spiders in the barn, swapping stories about this and that new fandangall whatchamightcallit.
My cousins are contractors here in Ireland, they have huge machine which also has side mowers, its amazing looking at them cut the grass in a fraction of the time.
