What, you mean you *don't* have a magical car that somehow repairs itself, regardless of what is wrong with it, as long as you leave it sitting for long enough?
It would actually be kinda cool to have a horror game where the premise is a broken car in the middle of nowhere. Your car is technically the safest place, but in order to call for help, you're forced to walk around to find a signal. Wildlife could be a potential enemy, as well as the weather. Maybe you have a physical disability, diabetic or similar, which urges you to go out and find a signal, but the further you go, the more dangerous it becomes. If the game takes place during winter, you need to stay close to your car if it storms, because else you won't be able to use your footprints to find your way back to the car. Maybe you even end up finding a run down gasstation or similar and look for equipment that can potentially help you fix your car. There can be several different endings. Bad endings where you die for whatever reason and good endings where you either fix your car yourself or succeed in guiding help toward your location. Among the things you need to do to get this ending, will be to go exploring until you find a state park map or similar, where you discover your location and later you get through to 911 om the phone, you can relay your coordinates and get thar ending. There are so many possibilities to make a low key atmospheric survival horror game with this premise. Rationing food you brought with you in the car, being forced to think creatively to stay warm (in case it's set in a cold climate), fending off wild life etc. I dunno. I just see so many possibilities to make a sincerely good game out of a very simple premise. Bonus points on the stakes if you have someon3 else in the car with you, like a kid or a dog of some other living being who is dependent on your for survival. Will make the choice on whether or not to leave the car extra scary. There will be consequences to leaving the child/dog/other behind and there will be consequences to bringing them with you when you go on explorations. :D
2:21 "But during the trip the car broke down" / 26:21 "I reached my car and drove as fast as I could" Did the magical mechanic fairies come to fix the car while he was gone?
"My car broke down so I had to look for shelter." *20 minutes of walking around* "I got in my car and drove away." ...This game has killed me. I'm dead inside forever now. I can't live peacefully in a world where this happens. ;-;
That reminded me of game grump's Steam Train intro / theme song. Except modified. We bought these crappy games! Better go refund them all. So all aboard the refund train! (Choo Choo!)
Just gifted this to my friend today to blindstream, and needless to say, a LOT of his reactions mirrored yours. The "best" part? If you take the split path to the center doorway (where there's the left door you went into and the right door that's locked), you skip right to the "got hit over head, wound up in asylum" part of the story. Yeah, you heard me. You can literally skip the entire maze (which, by the by, happens to have an empty, pointless shack somewhere in it) by picking a different door. Better hope you're lucky!
PhoofNScoops - i think these horrible games finally stole John's soul long ago. I'm amazed he hasn't lost his will to live from just the garbage the My Bones creator alone has churned out. RIP John's Soul & Will to Live.
judging by the menu screen there is no possible way this could be a scary game, everyone knows you need to have red in the menu screen for it to be scary. Wow and people gave it a good review WITHOUT red I am ashamed of this world now.
I think John deserves a sympathy card from each of us for making him go through the pain of playing these terrible one-shots. You can see the pain in his eyes! It's tearing him apart!
Games like this are true horror. The constant loading screens, repetitive mazes, unskipable texts, the treacherous key hunts. It's a test of patience, endurance and true sanity.
There was literally nothing I found enjoying or interesting in this game, but your videos on these awful games are so very enjoyable though. What is your secret?
+Lynxamanjaro You can only experience so much shit before your eyes glaze over and you're totally jaded. Video games are Johns Vietnam. He has seen so much death and destruction and total disregard for humanity through his years of gaming. He's a hardened veteran now. A snarky veteran.

Hello from 2024! I love coming back to watch videos from the HarshlyCritical days. Whether you're ripping apart sorry excuses of horror games, reviewing Goosebumps, or debunking ghosts from TikTok, yours will always be my favorite channel on RUclips.
The lad bought assets that happened to have "CMS-12" written on the side of the asset, so to try and justify using the asset he took the name off it and used it as part of his story; I'm guessing ha.
Verge : The Lost Chapter had the most compelling and unique story out of any game I've ever played or watched. The diversity in the 5 map models was astounding; I was completely immersed and on the edge of my seat through it all... Truly a masterpiece.
Seems the staff was short on paper, so they wrote all their memos on the walls with chalk. Everyone knows that chalk is the most convenient way to get your workers up to date.
Steam would lose out on data transfer of these refund games. Perhaps they'll institute some new quality requirement for new games or change the payment system that require developers to deposit some money. I nominate the playlist title to be Refund Train.
Steam is still refusing to curate their storefront so they are still basically being associated with garbage. Greenlight should have been a step on the road to recovery but it turns out it was basically pointless by now.
You are definitely my favorite youtuber. I have two extremely difficult midterms this week that I've been stressing about and these awful, hilarious one-shots really make my day. Thanks John!
+HarshlyCritical yeah, I figured it was. And with your expertise in typefaces, I thought you'd be interested, as well as give me a second opinion. Also, this was a nice one-shot. And I'm also loving Dropsy, it's really a great playthrough. I can't wait to see more of it!
Isn't the refund rule that you can get a refund if you have played for less than two hours? Maybe they were desperately trying to make the game longer without making any actual games play because they knew their game was awful but they want to keep the money. That was my first thought at least. Or they are just terrible at game design/coding. Also, game developers, I've been employed as an editor for several years now and have quite the portfolio. Cough, cough. Please, for the love of proper English, hire proofreaders! And as a general rule of thumb if you want to make decent content run everything through at least two different people to catch as many errors as possible. Put some sort of effort into your games at least.
I actually liked how the outdoors looked in the beginning and near the end. The sepia tones were pretty to me and I actually liked the rain animation. All of these things were probably stock and the only reason I liked them was because I hadn't seen them used before haha but I'm sure they have been.
I like how it tells you through text "something hit you on the head". The creator couldn't be bothered with even the bare minimum of just adding a little "thump" sound and having the screen go suddenly black.
Did anyone else notice that the car 'broke down' but when he left at the end, he got in and drove off... but how, the car had 'broken down' unless I missed something. Then again I had sort of given up the will to live by the end of this game so I might of just been in a coma at that point.
For a second there I thought this might be that new jeff the killer game and I was getting worried. I have not drank nearly enough to prepare for that shitshow.
Though I gotta say, this flashlight is a very good rendition of one with a deep textured reflector, very smooth. Maybe I'll get a crack at the game's files, extract that texture and put it on a Left 4 Dead 2 or Contagion add-on. Maybe someone will take the idea and put it on a Doom 3 mod to replace the TERRIBLE beam of that one. Speaking of, John, have you thought about Doom 3? It's an easy game, but still a horror classic...
You have a talent of making the most awful games highly entertaining & very enjoyable to watch. I am going to watch more of these than those good games now. Keep them coming.
On the topic of loading screens, did you know Portal, that absolute masterpiece of a game that was just a tag on for a bundle, has one loading screen total? Yes there are elevators, but that's because the entirety of the map is connected aside from one area, which I assume is the surface, due to it being the only area that occurs after a black/whiteout (Aka, loading). Yes I played the game so much I ended up with dev commentary.
2:32 ... it wouldn't be safe to stay in the car all night. Errh, what? Why not? You'd be safe from wild animals at least. And from getting a cold due to the rain? And from getting lost because you had the wonderful idea to wander around during nighttime? And to have this important chance, no matter how small, to be found by people because of the visibility of the car? Well, I can already see this game is one of those that decided to throw all its logic and common sense through the car window. This is gonna be good.
Isn't "...extremely poorly executed..." actually grammatically correct? To describe a verb, you have to use an adverb and to describe that adverb, you have to use a second adverb. If that's not the case, please tell me how it's done right.
22:12 the ellipses were not even the same! One set was square! Anyway(s) I'm pretty sure in that situation I would just stay in my car. Seems pretty safe in comparison with an abandoned asylum.
Dude, I am so sick of hearing that "Come closer, come closer. Do you like my pretty face?" audio pack shit. It is in literally almost 5 or 6 different games that I've watched here on RUclips on your channel alone. Jesus Montycristo.
CMDR Skycoder I agree. It's sad that I've heard it on another bad indie game that came out in 2013. It was unintentionally hilarious back then but now it's just annoying.
Reason why there are so many loading is, at the time of this game is being made, gameguru was really bad in optimization, so they have to split map into small parts. TGC(developer of gameguru) has somewhat improved this issue few month ago. By the way, even so game is really bad, still, I give a credit to game for being exist, only because it make possible for you to make this video, and your video is fun.
Well, that was... Something... My day is going pretty good incomparison to what you had to sit through while recording this. :P it was very enjoyable to watch though, only because of the commentary. Otherwise, I would have been on the "Verge" of falling asleep. On a different note, John do you have Undertale lined up for a playthrough?
"My car broke down", later says that he reached his car and drove away. It's amazing how cars work.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just got out of a psychiatric hospital and is set up in a nice cabin in the woods with a plot of land too
What, you mean you *don't* have a magical car that somehow repairs itself, regardless of what is wrong with it, as long as you leave it sitting for long enough?
Fear is the new gasoline 😄😅
I never realized that 😂😂
You have to admit that this is a pretty good loading screen simulator!
lol
love ur comment, hilarious, seriously.
That's not a flashlight John, that is clearly the world's thickest laser pointer
Even the flashlights on cellphones have better lighting
Actually, staying in the car would be a 100 times better option than to wander around looking for "shelter". Damn it, generic horror game excuses...
At least he diddnt run into the woods, trip on a root, break a bone and get murdered in the first 5 minutes like all the other generic horror stories
It would actually be kinda cool to have a horror game where the premise is a broken car in the middle of nowhere. Your car is technically the safest place, but in order to call for help, you're forced to walk around to find a signal.
