    Felicia I love oat groats. I don’t have a flakes, but I cook them like I would rice in the instant pot and just let them sit for a couple of hours. They turn out delicious!

    The prices were astronomical…. I use Palouse on Amazon ( clean grain and free shipping and fair prices) and the Amish store. Love your videos but Pleasant Hill prices itself out of a lot of people’s budgets. I am sure the product is good.

    Love all the grains! Interesting about the toasted oat groats. I have regular oat groats that I haven’t opened yet. Just bought a bucket of Einkorn grains since PHG had a sale this month. I was so excited to get those since they are less plentiful and expensive in general.

      You'll be blown away by how gorgeous and clean the grains are when they arrive! And if you want to store them, you don't need to do a thing. They're already sealed in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers in a food grade sealed tub. Just take them from the mailman and plop them straight into long-term storage. Shop here: grainsandgrit.com/phg

    I dunno ... $3/lb for 36 lbs, plus S&H, is not that great a deal. Just at a glance, Great River grains on Amazon is cheaper at $2/lb for 25lbs (plus FREE prime shipping), and I didnt even try looking for others.
    It all comes down to shipping, which often costs more than the grain, and if the shipping is free it's because it got feathered into a much higher base cost of the grain.
    Fortunately, I still have a half full pail of kamut.

    Have you tried the Khorasan wheat? I’m looking for a good one to make pasta with. I want to try and compare their hard white and corn to what I get from azure. I’m by no means bashing azure but even the wheat I have from 2020 has a lot of powder in it. Still absolutely usable as I just sift that out. It just depends on how much work you want to put in compared to cost and your budget. Hopefully azure is catching up to the demand and has found quality employees! That seems to be an issue everywhere today!

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  Год назад +1

      Yes I have noticed grains from azure are more “dusty” than PHG. I’m astonished every time I open my PHG grains by how clean they are.

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  Год назад

      Oh, and no I haven't tried their Khorasan wheat yet. They have been out for MONTHS and I only just noticed it when I placed this order.

  • @michaelarnold2294
    @michaelarnold2294 Год назад +7

    Not kidding about being expensive. The hard winter wheat is twice the cost of Azure Standard. For the extra $s you could get a bucket and a gamma lid and still have money left. I know they are a sponsor, but…

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  Год назад +6

      I know especially with hard white wheat, I have seen many people say that Azure's hasn't been very clean as of late. Personally, I have only had issues with one bag of wheat from Azure in all the years I have ordered from them but I think something has been going on with the hard white wheat the past few months because I keep seeing people talk about it.
      The other part of Azure that you have to consider is you have to actually go to the drops to pick up your order. If your drop is anything like mine, the drivers are consistently an hour or more late, so that's A LOT of time for me that I spend going to pick up my order and waiting for it, loading it, etc. Time is money too :-)

    • @debbiehall3759
      @debbiehall3759 Год назад +3

      I’ve purchased from both and have loved and appreciated them. However, I’m one that has had many issues with many of Azure’s grains being so full of other “stuff” that I’ve had to clean them before using. That is a lot of our time doing it. Pleasant Hill Grain products give me so much confidence to store them for future use. Not so with Azure!

    I bought some hard red wheat from a local farmer (local meaning in an adjoining state), and I just noticed it’s full of some kind of small beetle. I know I can freeze it and they will die, but they and their offspring will still be there. Do I just toss the lot? Any suggestions?

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  Год назад +1

      Freezing it will kill them. I would then place them in a good container with a good lid with an oxygen absorber to ensure nothing else hatches.
