Felicia I love oat groats. I don’t have a flakes, but I cook them like I would rice in the instant pot and just let them sit for a couple of hours. They turn out delicious!
The prices were astronomical…. I use Palouse on Amazon ( clean grain and free shipping and fair prices) and the Amish store. Love your videos but Pleasant Hill prices itself out of a lot of people’s budgets. I am sure the product is good.
Isn’t that the truth!
Thank you so much for your thorough explanation. Can’t wait to see what you do with the oats.
I second that! I have bought from Pleasant Hill a couple of times and I'm always satisfied with their products and good prices too!
Wow all looks wonderful. Soon as I am notified of the refurbished mill I'm waiting for, I'll be placing an order for my grains too. Thanks again Felicia for sharing how they care for their products.
I order from wheat Montana Farms. Really great and cheaper price
I have used Montana Milling Wheat for over 20 years and have always been happy with it. Also all their wheat is organic, meaning glyphosates are not used.
I'd like to try them and give a review. Do you have a contact there I can speak with?
So how is the "whole grain baking" cookbook?
Thanks for your videos, I've learned so much. Btw, that shade of blush pink is truly your color! So pretty on you.
aw thank you!
Always love your videos
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. Very very helpful.
Love all the grains! Interesting about the toasted oat groats. I have regular oat groats that I haven’t opened yet. Just bought a bucket of Einkorn grains since PHG had a sale this month. I was so excited to get those since they are less plentiful and expensive in general.
Yes for the longest time PHG was the only place I could find einkorn!
I love Azure but yes my grains are very dusty and have twig like things in there. I’ve already bought buckets from PHG and can’t wait to open when my Azure are gone
@@rebeccaludwig7849 the difference will be quite startling. I remember being quite surprised at the difference.
Are there discount codes available for Pleasant Hill Grains? TIA
I really like PHG. I've purchased a few items from there and never had issues. Customer service is A++. I haven't ordered grains from them those I've gotten from palouse. But maybe I'll give them a try next time I need grains. Thank you for your video.
You'll be blown away by how gorgeous and clean the grains are when they arrive! And if you want to store them, you don't need to do a thing. They're already sealed in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers in a food grade sealed tub. Just take them from the mailman and plop them straight into long-term storage. Shop here: grainsandgrit.com/phg
I dunno ... $3/lb for 36 lbs, plus S&H, is not that great a deal. Just at a glance, Great River grains on Amazon is cheaper at $2/lb for 25lbs (plus FREE prime shipping), and I didnt even try looking for others.
It all comes down to shipping, which often costs more than the grain, and if the shipping is free it's because it got feathered into a much higher base cost of the grain.
Fortunately, I still have a half full pail of kamut.
If cost is your only consideration, then PHG is not for you.
@@GrainsandGrit Oh, i'm by no means an undiscerning phillistine ... I'd simply confined the focus of my OP to price for brevity. ATB 😄
Oh I look, forward to your video about oats and flaking!!!
Might consider pleasant hill. Seeing your delivery there is value added for the extra cost
It is very convenient to have it delivered to my house. Plus I KNOW my grains are going to be in excellent condition. You don't get that guarantee with all companies when it comes to grains.
Thank you for showing all of that. I really like PHG. Have purchased appliances from them but not grains. Can you show us what the corn looks like from PHG? I love your videos. Thank you
I don’t need to open up the bucket right now ha I already have ones that are opened. When I do, I will try to remember to post it! 😀
@@GrainsandGrit thank you. The reason I asked. I got a 50lb bag and a lot of them have brown tips. Don’t know how to send you a picture. Don’t know what that means.
Those grains look so much better than what I have bought from another source. Do you think soft white, hard white and corn are pretty much the basics for someone just starting out?
Yes, I definitely recommend a hard wheat for yeast breads, soft wheat for baked goods, and if you love cornbread, grits, and tortillas then get you some corn too! 😀
I love my USA Pans they are non-stick but I still use butter because it not going to hurt my bread. ,
Butter makes everything better! Lol
They had no tax for my state.
I didn’t have any either. I think it all depends on your state.
Would like to get your grain calculator but when I use the website and put in my email, I do not get it sent to my email..need help please.
I’m so sorry about this! Make sure your checking spam folders and if you have a gmail account check your promotion tab too.
Otherwise, just email me at felicia@grainsandgrit.com and I can resend it 😀
@@GrainsandGritI am so sorry I didn’t think to look in the spam folder 🤨. Found the Quick Sheet! Excited, thank you! Also would love to have the grain calculator if still available.
Have you tried the Khorasan wheat? I’m looking for a good one to make pasta with. I want to try and compare their hard white and corn to what I get from azure. I’m by no means bashing azure but even the wheat I have from 2020 has a lot of powder in it. Still absolutely usable as I just sift that out. It just depends on how much work you want to put in compared to cost and your budget. Hopefully azure is catching up to the demand and has found quality employees! That seems to be an issue everywhere today!
Yes I have noticed grains from azure are more “dusty” than PHG. I’m astonished every time I open my PHG grains by how clean they are.
Oh, and no I haven't tried their Khorasan wheat yet. They have been out for MONTHS and I only just noticed it when I placed this order.
Not kidding about being expensive. The hard winter wheat is twice the cost of Azure Standard. For the extra $s you could get a bucket and a gamma lid and still have money left. I know they are a sponsor, but…
I know especially with hard white wheat, I have seen many people say that Azure's hasn't been very clean as of late. Personally, I have only had issues with one bag of wheat from Azure in all the years I have ordered from them but I think something has been going on with the hard white wheat the past few months because I keep seeing people talk about it.
The other part of Azure that you have to consider is you have to actually go to the drops to pick up your order. If your drop is anything like mine, the drivers are consistently an hour or more late, so that's A LOT of time for me that I spend going to pick up my order and waiting for it, loading it, etc. Time is money too :-)
I’ve purchased from both and have loved and appreciated them. However, I’m one that has had many issues with many of Azure’s grains being so full of other “stuff” that I’ve had to clean them before using. That is a lot of our time doing it. Pleasant Hill Grain products give me so much confidence to store them for future use. Not so with Azure!
I love Azure ❤
Oh my. I never looked at prices before. I’m very blessed to live near Bread Beckers.
@@mrsupchurch2987 we do too! Doing monthly purchases of wheat for….well you know.
Thank you for sharing your haul and experience with Pleasant Hill Grain. Everyone is free to shop where they are comfortable, but I really like to see the options. Everything considered with quality, cleanliness, storage ready, service and delivery, I would be happy to buy from PHG. Of course, sales are nice.
I bought some hard red wheat from a local farmer (local meaning in an adjoining state), and I just noticed it’s full of some kind of small beetle. I know I can freeze it and they will die, but they and their offspring will still be there. Do I just toss the lot? Any suggestions?
Freezing it will kill them. I would then place them in a good container with a good lid with an oxygen absorber to ensure nothing else hatches.
I have a kitchen scale but do I need a specific type to weight flour for accuracy or anything works?
Nope, I don’t ever really weight my ingredients I usually use mine to weigh dough 😀
Thanks for the info! do you still buy anything from Azure ? Or do you now purchase everything from PH?
Lately, my grains have mainly been coming from PHG but I have also been sent grains from Guardian Grains as well which I love (you can check them out on my website www.grainsandgrit.com/buygrains ) 😀
Hi I can not find you on Instagram? 3 other people come up? Idk why thank you
