I don't get why Citizen didn't release these 2-3 years ago. It's like they finally understand that people will buy stylish Citizen automatics with a Miyota movement but still... they move at a glacial pace in the market.
The big Japanese brands probably have a committee to discuss the committee that establishes which committee's designs are produced. They all seem to move as slowly as each other. How long did it take Casio to produce a full metal CasiOak? 2.5 years?
I have the yellow colorway and it's a beautiful, very comfortable watch. I agree with Jody that the crown is a bit of a pain, but nothing that can't be overcome. It's one of the few watches I have that actually gets noticed, and I'm very pleased with it. Great review!!
I would’ve paid a hundred more for the 9000 series Myota(28,800 BPH thinner, and quieter) a slightly better clasp and 100 m of water resist… thanks for the great review Jody
All the new batches for the Citizen Tsuyosa now have hacking. They either updated the 8210 movement or are using the 8215 and are still labelling it the 8210. From Jomashop for $199 USD. Most comfortable watch I've worn and that dial just pops in any amount of light you give it. For me it wears, performs and looks better than the PRX and I'm a huge fan of the PRX.
I think they are both great. I have the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 in mint green and the Citizen Tsuyosa small seconds in Blue. Both excellent and 2 different looks. I get kudos on both.
I bought mine (blue textured dial) from Germany, delivered to the UK before that version was available here. Hacking was standard on mine. Absolutely love it! Running at +13 out of the box, regulated to +-1 second per day with little effort now 😊
I do own both! I have the Teal Green Tsuyosa, and the Black Dial PRX Powermatic 80. I think the bracelet on the Tsuyosa was much better than the PRX. I got way too much overhang with the PRX bracelet, so I replaced it with a rubber strap, and it wears much better now. Throw in the fact that the PRX has a butterfly deployant clasp, and I just was not able to get a good fit for it. I had NO issues getting a perfect fit with the Tsuyosa bracelet. Thanks for the comparison video!
The newer production run of this watch actually hack. A few weeks ago I was at a Citizen AD and I checked it myself, side to side, how their older stock does NOT hack while the newer stock DO hack.
Nice one Jody! All these models are available in Turkey and priced from $365 to a massive $420 depending on the seller. I doubt if anyone buys at the higher price and all colours are priced exactly the same. It's backed by the Citizen authorized dealer here so they have the full guarantee. I had the PRX and as well as missing the markers it didn't really catch me so I wouldn't buy this either. Great thing about the big brand watch warranty offices in Istanbul, they're all literally next door to each other and a 15 minute ferry boat ride away so at least it's easy if there's a problem!
I rather reluctantly bought a PRX Powermatic 80 a few months ago, 40mm with the emerald green dial... it was just too cheap to pass up. But when I opened the box I was instantly smitten, it's definitely one of my all-time favorites. One of the reasons I was hesitant is the lack of micro adjust on the bracelet... Fortunately I got lucky and my PRX fits great.
Nice review. That’s the one I got - that color really gets attention. The only negative is the crown - it’s a struggle to get out. It’s well worth the money.
Hi Jody, Got mine late as well from a local watchmaker. I’m glad Citizen put a better movement with hacking second into the last batch of watches. Maybe it’s a 8215 now. Would be nice to have 100m of water resistant. But overall it’s a nice summer watch. Best wishes, Claus
Better? No. It's as good as the PRX. That yellow dial is spectacular. I'd love to find one in new/never owned condition. I'd buy it. Great video Jody 👍
@@Jon-ho5tk Aw sick! I imported one internationally -- knowing that I'd pay more to get one earlier than my friends -- but it's well worth $270 ... Nice find!
I’ve got a Tsuyosa with the pebble dark blue dial. It wasn’t available from Citizen in the USA so I bought it from a European retailer. It was a little less than $300 US all in (but the actual total eludes me at the moment). The crown is a PITA, but not totally unusable. This one has a hacking movement. I had a PRX automatic, but after a few months, the watch needed to be sent back for warranty service (the movement developed what my dealer called”helicopter rotor“, a fairly common issue with the powermatic80). When it came back, I was pretty much over it so I sold it. Comparing the 2 pieces, I’d say the PRX was better than the Tsuyosa in 2 areas - the 80 hour power reserve and the clasp on the bracelet (the Tsuyosa’s clasp is not nice, it works but that about all you can say about it lol). I prefer pretty much everything else about the Tsuyosa over the PRX automatic which is why the PRX is gone and I have a Tsuyosa in my rotation
I actually have both watches from the video. Went with the Quartz PRX as well and "Tiffany" blue Tsuyosa. At first I wanted PRX Powermatic, but then Tsuyosa was released and I figured I might as well get 2 watches for the same money, with one of them being automatic too. :D So I bought PRX for the looks and Tsuyosa for everything else, love them both!
@@Azzamilano In terms of quality, PRX for sure. I'm not sure there is any better bracelet for under $1k. You won't make mistake. Both are great watches, but finishing is better on PRX.
Hrmm... I prefer the dials on the quartz PRX watches to those square textured dials on the autos. I have the dark blue PRX quartz and... I don't quite love it. I also have the previous PR100, also unimaginatively with the dark blue dial. They are just a bit more dressy than I usually prefer and I definitely don't love the lack of micro adjust on the PRX but until I eat a few more burritos, mine fits me basically perfectly. For me, the PRX is all about that bracelet. It looks magnificent as you do your wrist roll, esp in the sunlight. Those polished bits just visually jump. I do think I slightly prefer the case finishing details on the CItizen and do like that yellow dial, esp if one wears it as a casual watch rather than a dress watch but that's not enough to sway me from the PRX. I reckon the integrated bracelet look is why one buys the PRX or the Tsuyosa so the better bracelet on the PRX trumps the better case details of the Citizen for me. Having said that, that's entirely too logical of a decision making method... I don't think either option here is bad.
Since I own a blue sunburst Tsuyosa, I can only agree with your assessments. Thinking about swapping my blue against the one with the textured dial… I wish the Citizen would have 10 bar WR and better lume but that’s about it. In regards to the movement, it appears to be that they used non hacking Miyotas in the beginning but now they use hacking ones, mine hacks given only after a movement swap by Citizen. But more and more reports are popping up about hacking Tsuyosas… Wouldn’t surprise me, that if you went for a new colourway, those Pantone ones, you would get a hacking variant.
The PRX is definitely worth the money for the bracelet alone. Yeah I can’t figure out why this watch isn’t “officially” sold in the U.S. It’s definitely a good budget alternative, but this is one of those watches where if you really want the PRX, I would save up a little bit more and get the PRX. Better late than never! Thanks!

Having tried both watches, I feel the PRX is still a notch higher in terms of finishing. However the Citizen did fit my wrist much better than the PRX.
Concerning the 50m WR: if one actually reads the manual (I did it so you don't have to): it's fine to take the watch for a swim. Concerning the hacking function: some movements already have it added, some don't. Miyota is about to upgrade the movement these days. It's just luck which one you get.
I've got the NJ0151-88X (teal fumee colourway) and am very happy with it. Lots of folks have positively commented on the beautiful dial. No issues with the time keeping, however as it's in rotation the crown is indeed a pain in the a$$ to use. I actually used the micro adjust and got a perfect fit, so those extra few mm make a world of difference. The best thing.... I bought it new from amazon with £60 off the mrrp! Sadly it's now back to £300 though.
I've had exactly the same one for a few months and out of the box it said + 6sec/day As I am obsessed with accuracy I therefore regulated it and obtained + 1sec/day... which seems acceptable to me 😀 Very nice watch and first Citizen automatic added to my collection Note: mine has hacking (latest release)
A really thorough albeit belated review. I'm with you... for the price of the more expensive Powermatic 80 PRX, you can have a Tsuyosa AND a Quartz PRX! And why not? Well done for highlighting the difference between the two in style and wearability. As you rightly point out the PRX is a flat integrated bracelet watch, whereas the Tsuyosa wears completely differently and is more like an OP with a President bracelet. I personally prefer the colours of the Tsuyosa. I have the yellow and the light blue dial models. Weirdly, they were only released here in Japan on Thursday 21st September. And in only 5 colour ways! They also feature hacking as standard.
Another worthy PRX alternative is the Casio Edifice EFB-108. Sure, it’s quartz, but for the sub-100 USD retail price you usually find, it’s impressive. Sapphire, 100m WR, signed crown, beautiful flat-link integrated bracelet. Only Black and light steel (it isn’t really white), so not a lot of color ways to pick from. And it’s a bit larger, tho the listed dimensions are measured differently from most listed dial dimensions. But all together, I think it offers a lot. For a price this low, the specs and finishing are fantastic. A great affordable alternative for integrated bracelet watches.
This is the sort of watch i would have preferred to have seen in quartz with 50-100 bucks aussie off the tag. Dont feel like messing with that crown with my big clumsy digits too often 😅 Or same price with quality improvements and then come in higher with a 9000 series movement, like the prx has done with the two pricing levels. It's obviously a winning formula with the right design.
Pretty much agree with your entire analysis Jody, I have both and whilst similar, they are quite different in the wearing. Is the auto Tissot worth twice the Tsuyosa? Nope, but I'm happy to have both. The Citizen is a little more fun, the PRX a little more sedate.
Как только появится ТИССОТ ,я сходил померил и он мне показался огромным и неудобным. Ситизен в руках не держал, но мне кажется он действительно будет смотреться на запястье лучше...👍
The best thing going for the Citizen is the array of color options. I prefer the Tissot bracelet myself. If I had to choose I'd spend more money and go for the PRX automatic. Good job as always Jody!!
I picked up the 88L about four weeks ago, it has the Blue Fume look and a bit of texture to the dial as well, very happy with so far. I only paid £256 with discounts and got the full warranty plus one year. It has hacking but I think that is the case with most of the models in this line released in 2023. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to your channel.
In Canada they are just under $600 CDN new for anything colourful. I assume at time point the frenzy will slow down and the prices will become more reasonable. But even at a fraction of that it just doesn’t have enough appeal to me. I am hoping to see one in person soon. I am hoping it has more appeal in hand. Although late to the game still the best review I have seen. Merci!
I just tried one on in a shop on holidays in Turkey. It is very nice, thought not the equivalent of €450 nice that the shopkeeper wanted. Used is definitely the way to go
I just got it. Mine hacks and I paid $225 usd new. I definitely like it and keep. But I like the back of the bracelet better. Flat and all brushed. It matches the case better. I wonder if there is a way to turn the bracelet! But in any case a keeper. I thought I would hate the cyclops, but it is less offensive. Keeps good time. 5 sec fast per day
I would pick one up if Citizen releases it with a ecodrive movement. I love the yellow dial variant but when I handled one in person, the 8000 series miyota is a instant turn off because of the loud rotor and the seconds hand sweep was so bad.
I'm confused about the movement. While in Jody's video it is clearly marked 8210 (two places), the Miyota website has no entry for that number (that I could find). Is the 8210 actually just an "8215 Gilt" which indeed is in their catalog, What gives? (not that there's anything wrong with the 8215 besides noisy winding. Bulletproof.)
You’ve gotta spend a bit on the bracelet to market an integrated bracelet product..The citizen bracelet lets it down IMO. It will be very sloppy in a matter of a couple of years and then what? Nice review Mr M. Not as exciting as the last one though!
The PRX just doesn't sit well on my wrist. This looks like a really nice alternative and a I saw a deep blue one available in the UK that was very tempting. Is it too early to call it a Christmas pressie to myself?
I have both and I like´em both. But to be honest sometimes the small crown on the Citizen annoys me very much. Also there is no hacking with the Citizen. But still would recommend both.
Great review Jody. I’d like to see this watch with sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance and a thin Eco Drive movement. Until then the Tissot quartz PRX beats it hands down.
Mate it is a nice watch, but the resemblance is not great Cadisen even makes a closer copy but honestly the PRX is in a class of its own in beauty- one watch you feel PROUD to wear to dinner out❤
I'd prefer the Citizen... don't like the PRX. Like the bracelet on this one over the other Citizen NH8391-51Z you reviewed, but like that style better then this one.
Obvious aesthetic differences aside, holding both in hand there's nothing about the PRX that feels its price. The Tsuyosa is fine but it does remind you that you're wearing a $300 watch. That said, you can't argue with the value or the looks and that yellow plated model with the red fume dial is an absolute stunner.
Defo prefer the Tsuyosa especially because it has most of the features of the PRX P80 at less than half the price. That being said i would have preferred a smaller case for this, it seems like it might be a bit too big for my 6 inch wrist.
I love Citizen. At the moment I own 24 watches and 6 of them are from Citizen (it is the brand I have more watches from). They are incredible value. I mean...you want an affordable ISO certified diver for 200ish bucks? Ny0040. You want an iconic dive watch with diving computer capabilities for 300ish? The JP2000. You want an affordable integrated bracelet watch with sapphire? Here you have the Tsuyosa. You want an iconic bullhead chrono? They have plenty. A GADA watch for 400ish? The NB1050 with sapphire, duratect. 4hz movement, milled clasp, pins and collars, etc. An affordable GMT in eco-drive? Plenty. I could go on....to me they are the best value per money watch brand out there. Seiko is long gone as the value king, now offering dive watches with cheap clasps and subpar crystals at 500bucks or more.
HELLOOOOOO, and Welcome to Just One More Comment! 😁 Is the Citizen better? NO! It is a good value however. I think the PRX is too! It is better built, Swiss, better movement, and has a much nicer bracelet (that fits me perfectly with a smaller link removed)…and the bracelet is uniquely styled to the case as an integrated bracelet should be, not a cheap President knock off pulled from the parts bin that is a stylistic mismatch to the case. Is a PRX Powermatic 80 worth the premium? Sure it is…the same way a Nautilus or a Royal Oak come with super-premium pricing over a PRX as integrated bracelet offerings. If you value the style, quality, pedigree…whatever floats your boat…it’s your money and your enjoyment. The good news is YOU have OPTIONS. So I applaud Citizen and Tissot for that.
I have the citizen, it took the spot of a dresskx on an uncle seiko president in my watchbox, principally because I wanted a colourful summer watch! I've tried on both sizes of the prx and it just doesn't work for me - I prefer how the citizen case sweeps in towards the bracelet and looks less like a slab. Plus you get the more interesting range of colours with the citizen. And yes the new ones hack!
i have both, in which my PRX is an auto, while my Citizen has green dial… PRX wears more comfy for my 6.5” wrist, but the Citizen can be worn all year round due to the micro adjustments..PRX, fits nicely on hot day, but comes winter, it’ll becomes loose…nothing u can do about it
being in singapore . i got this way earlier than most people internationally around 2022 or late 2021 when the first colour waves are available internationally (and much lesser colour variants earlier on ) . the only downside in my opinion are the WR, and lume. plus those with smaller wrist need to be wary the dial may look too big for small wrist people. as remember this is 40mm watch without DIVE BEZEL! and the simple round look at 40mm might look too big for people used to 34 or 36mm rolex datejust or date
Had one but sent it back. Wore too big for me and I didn't like that deep back. Had to stick with my Citizen Super Titanium Eco-Drive (current model # BM7431-51L) which I bought before integrated bracelets were a thing.
Man, I just made a video on my favorite citizen and how the integrated rubber strap is garbage and there’s no way to get around it at least that I know of. If you have any ideas how to get around this, I would love to hear it Jody. Thank you.

Pretty much agree with your entire analysis Jody, I have both and whilst similar, they are quite different in the wearing. Is the auto Tissot worth twice the Tsuyosa? Nope, but I'm happy to have both. The Citizen is a little more fun, the PRX a little more sedate.
It now release in Aussie AD . 😊
Pretty looking watch. Flashy colors. Could do with some decoration on movement. Good for Citizen that they are milking the craze.
One of the very few watch RUclipsrs who pronounce “Tsuyosa” correctly. And, this watch is stunning.
Well done, Jody! 🙏
You can see where the additional money is going on the PRX. Shame you can’t get the auto tapisserie dial on the quartz though
Как только появится ТИССОТ ,я сходил померил и он мне показался огромным и неудобным. Ситизен в руках не держал, но мне кажется он действительно будет смотреться на запястье лучше...👍
Try out a Tissot PRX in 35mm, you may be surprised
@@razvy79 Probably, but I like the citizen better, purely visually. Although I prefer size 43 and larger.
Does Citizen have an Eco-Drive version? Set it an forget it and the crown is something i would overlook. Great colors on the line up
Citizen series 8 batman is the watch of the year,it looks spectacular.
The best thing going for the Citizen is the array of color options. I prefer the Tissot bracelet myself. If I had to choose I'd spend more money and go for the PRX automatic. Good job as always Jody!!
I had an Auto PRX, sold it and got a Tsuyosa.
I guarantee you will regret spending so much more for so much less.
I like the colour, but from a specification perspective it falls well short of a microbrand around the same price
They make a very similar model without the integrated bracelet and a 9011 movement
NB1050-59
Jodi just bought the blur one and it hacks where you're didn't!What'd up with that 🤔
I picked up the 88L about four weeks ago, it has the Blue Fume look and a bit of texture to the dial as well, very happy with so far.
Merci!
Hello and welcome!
Ayyeeeeee!
I just tried one on in a shop on holidays in Turkey. It is very nice, thought not the equivalent of €450 nice that the shopkeeper wanted. Used is definitely the way to go
Had this exact yellow one bought from a dealer in Spain, was a lovely summer watch
Debating taking back my PRX automatic and getting 2 Tsuyosas!
5 sec fast per day
I've had my eye on these since they were first released, haven't committed yet but the more I see them the more I like them.
I would pick one up if Citizen releases it with a ecodrive movement. I love the yellow dial variant but when I handled one in person, the 8000 series miyota is a instant turn off because of the loud rotor and the seconds hand sweep was so bad.
I bought 88M sky blue, 250 USD in Vietnam. about +20 sec/day.
is this suitable for 6" wrist ?
Love mine but the crown is difficult to use
It would be nice if citizen could make an eco-drive version.
Its a sweet looking watch with great Citizen build and price .
The markers aren’t aligned ☹️ and no hacking movement 😮 nice review Jody 😃
"Just in time for the Summer"...RUB IT IN, Mr Southern Hemisphire!!!!!!
i'm fortunate enough to have been gifted the green variety and it's a solid watch in its price range.
Love mine. Perfect sunny-day Summer time watch.
I see a lot of corners cut here to sit in that price range. Give me a series 9 movement, milled clasp, great lume, and I’d buy it in the 500-700 range
Nice watch! Wouldn't that be a perfect mod project, Jody? Swapping out the 8210 for a 9015? Would really like to see that... Have a good summer!
Sadly they have different hand fitment. I believe an ETA2824 would be an easier swap.
Any options to swap out that terrible-looking clasp? It is the only downfall from keeping this a real value piece
Is it too early to call it a Christmas pressie to myself?
better, I don't know, but it does look better to me
I think it's a nicer design than the PRX. I have a PRX, bought on impulse. It's a nice watch but this Citizen is a bit of a design classic.
I think the question should be ...is there anything out there that can beat the JOMW watch.
Although pretty, I'd MUCH rather spend my money on YOUR watches, Jody!!! Congrats again, Jody! 🍻🎉🤜🤛
I may be ran out of town for asking this, but .... Is there a quartz version?
I have the citizen, it took the spot of a dresskx on an uncle seiko president in my watchbox, principally because I wanted a colourful summer watch! I've tried on both sizes of the prx and it just doesn't work for me - I prefer how the citizen case sweeps in towards the bracelet and looks less like a slab. Plus you get the more interesting range of colours with the citizen. And yes the new ones hack!
i have both, in which my PRX is an auto, while my Citizen has green dial… PRX wears more comfy for my 6.5” wrist, but the Citizen can be worn all year round due to the micro adjustments..PRX, fits nicely on hot day, but comes winter, it’ll becomes loose…nothing u can do about it
I like them especially that yellow one. However I would rather save a little longer and get the prx powermatic.
i already got the Tsuyona (teal) but I`m also going for the PRX 80 Automatic (Ice Blue) soon, with both it was just love at first sight
Which one you like better
@@marcusgonzalez8026 tissot slaps but I also enjoy the the tsuyosa
Wish these would’ve been around before I bought my PRX. I got a quarts model and it is uninspiring tbh. Not all it’s hyped up to be
I prefer the nh8391 tbh. But i can't get it here in the UK. But i love the strong colours all the same.
being in singapore . i got this way earlier than most people internationally around 2022 or late 2021 when the first colour waves are available internationally (and much lesser colour variants earlier on ) . the only downside in my opinion are the WR, and lume. plus those with smaller wrist need to be wary the dial may look too big for small wrist people. as remember this is 40mm watch without DIVE BEZEL! and the simple round look at 40mm might look too big for people used to 34 or 36mm rolex datejust or date
I'm surprised Citizen didn't promote the EcoDrive 365, that watch is beautiful. Especially the limited edition
Great review. I don't like the jubilee bracelet. It looks like an aftermarket addition. I would also lose the magnifier. 😬
I don’t mind the bracelet, definitely different vibe than the PRX but yeah, that cyclops should be gone
Honestly, that recessed crown kills it for me.
Comfortable, but bloody awkward!
Had one but sent it back. Wore too big for me and I didn't like that deep back. Had to stick with my Citizen Super Titanium Eco-Drive (current model # BM7431-51L) which I bought before integrated bracelets were a thing.
The gold with red dial is the one to buy. A stunner. ($310)
Man, I just made a video on my favorite citizen and how the integrated rubber strap is garbage and there’s no way to get around it at least that I know of. If you have any ideas how to get around this, I would love to hear it Jody. Thank you.
What about the Accurist Origin?
