There is always so much to appreciate and enjoy in the performances of this lovely band. In this video, for example: 1. The reversal of traditional roles in the first chorus, with trombone taking the melody and trumpet free to decorate it. 2. The neat, unflashy, melody-based solos. 3. The absolute solidity of the brass bass, constantly and accurately pumping the band through the chords. 4. The cymbal strike at 02:50, marking the end of the trumpet's Middle Eight. 5. The support given during the Middle Eight of the clarinet's solo, including the banjo from 03:48 to 03:51. 6. The banjo again with that super run-up (04:50 - 04:52), punctuating the end of a Middle Eight of the vocal. 7. The teamwork and excitement built up in the final chorus; and the important part played by the cymbal (mainly off-beats) during this chorus.
Jo
OK, you guys are making me do it: I am going on Instagram after years of resistance, just to find out where you play and when! We will be driving down to France from Sweden this autumn, and I would love to find the bar, restaurant or street corner you guys have occupied! Please keep your appearance schedule up to date as soon as you know where you will be.
❤ love your music!! Beautiful!!!
And I love the couple dancing in the background.
Yes, that was neat!
Excellent! REAL MUSIC which is sensible melody, harmony and rhythm!!
Nice variation to have the trombone play the melody in the first chorus rather than the trumpet. Lovely tuneful band!
Satchmo would be laughing and smiling at you guys! That was great!
