C'est pour mieux garder l'attention du public comme des musiciens, rester plus proche du thème, privilégier le collectif et éviter un morceau trop long. Dans le style New Orleans on partage plus facilement les improvisations comme ça par rapport aux styles de jazz postérieurs où les solistes prennent individuellement plus de temps. C'est aussi important de comprendre la chose sur un concert entier, ça évite la le systématisme des improvisations des soufflants, davantage préposés et récurrents dans ces improvisations.
