Thank you soo much for this info. I've been installing stereo/amps in several of my previous cars and for the life of me can't figure out what hell I did wrong on my 2018 Accord after I installed the powered sub. Thank you!
Very helpful video, just did this to my leased 2019 Accord. Installed a Rockford Fosgate P300 12” that had terrible feedback, I was as about to send it back until I came across your video. The only thing I did differently was to remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the module to the dash. I didn’t want to risk pulling any wires out of the harness. For me that made it much easier. Now I’m 100% satisfied, thanks for the information
Awsome video brother you nailed it. This blew my mind when i first heard it and relized cracking my windows fixed it. You should relable this vid...honda accord after market sub makes horrible feed back. Alot of people do not know about the sound canceling
Out of phase signals in music can drive you buggy. Certainly you have noticed when that one speaker (or microphone) is out of phase with another, it just doesn’t sound quite right. Honda uses ANC (active noise cancellation), an out of phase cabin sound, to reduce engine noise. Works very well for low frequency cabin noise, but it also affects music in lower frequency ranges. (And, to a lesser extent, localization of music at other frequencies.) I have a 2018 Accord Touring and was disappointed by the quality of audio I was hearing. I just couldn’t quite find an EQ that suited my ears. When I went to the internet, I saw that some versions of Honda provided access to a developer mode that allowed access to set a DSP (digital sound processor) to “Flat”. Unfortunately, I didn’t know how to do this on my model. Thanks to Matthew J on RUclips, I learned how to get into developer mode on the 2018 Touring, and through my own muddling, found what, I believe is, the DSP for the ANC. Press and Hold: POWER/VOLUME KNOB + HOME + SOURCE Select: Detail Information and Setting screen Press and Hold: HOME + Audio Check Select: Audio Setting Set: PS to OFF Exit Developer mode (Via Returns) When you EVALUATE the results, don’t use DTS Neural Surround or other “enhancements. Save them for later if you like, but they do affect perception and localization. (I don’t know what the acronym “PS” means, but I would bet that it means Psychoacoustic.)
Thanks so much for the video. What does feedback sound like? I'm barely going to have my subwoofer installed. I'd like to know what to look out for. Thanks again!
Anytime you change from factory speakers, you need to disconnect the ANC, You will receive feedback. I changed the rear deck speakers in my 2015 Honda accord then experienced the feedback hum..no amp hooked up at that time. The ANC module sends a reverse polarity non audible frequency to the factory speakers that aftermarket speakers replicate.. it's all about the frequency range. Now, if you hooked up an amp, you are amplifying that frequency. You can not cancel it unless you disconnect the ANC or reverse polarity on the inputs, which could damage an amp. I just purchased a 2019 sport 1.5T. Luckily I kept all my stereo equipment from my 2015. I had a jl audio 500/1 pushing a mojo 12 in a tuned ported box with 6.5 alpine components front 6.5 2 way rear. Those were powered by a kenwood excelon x600f. All this was controlled from the stock receiver running through an audio control lc6i. One day not too far in the future, I will buy new 6.5s since those are over 3 years old, then install in my 19.. Thanks for showing the location of the ANC module..
What does that feedback sound like? I have a subwoofer installed as well and high end speakers and tweeters. My issue is that at really high end frequency notes my tweeters will clip/distort. It always happens at mid volume regardless of how low or high the gains on my amp are. Could the ANC be the issue? even when i turn down my bass it still happens
Thank you! I made a cheap mod for subwoofer for now. I connected a PC active sub to the rear speaker and it's powered by a power inverter. There's a loud humming sound as soon as I pick up speed but it's fine when idling. Hope this will solve it!
Thanks I needed this to stop that loud a$% humming the car makes. Edit: I did not undo the bottom and I still got at it without breaking anything. My music sounds amazing now....much more bump. Was this causing an issue with music sound also? Wow.
So this won’t disconnect my Bluetooth bc a lot of forums says it does. I’m not adding an aftermarket deck I have a 2017 crv. I got an in-line converter to run my amp for my subs so I don’t wanna do all this to have the Bluetooth disconnect
After disconnecting, could you hear any difference in engine sounds? My understanding is that same system is responsible for "enhancing" the sound of the engine.
@@garageprojects8175 hey buddy, I know it's been two months since you commented on this. Have you noticed an increase in cabin noise over the last two months since you've disconnected the ANC?
If you put it in sport mode it’s supposed to increase the engine noise through the speaker I think that’s what he’s talking about if that went away when you disconnected the ANS
i disconnected mine and ...and guess what..I lost a set of speakers The front speakers are now disconnected...WTH? are there 2 boxes under their and i did the wrong one?
So I contacted a local shop and was told that disconnecting the ANC won't work and that I will still get noise and feedback coming from the subwoofer even when the vehicle is completely off. His solution to that is to install a "kill switch" for the aftermarket amp to shut it off when the noise comes on? So am I supposed to completely turn the amp off whenever the noise comes on in the middle of a song? His solution just sounds very counterproductive. Then he proceeded to explain to me that disabling the ANC will only work for vehicles with factory navigation. I have a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T which is not equipped with navigation. He insists that the only way to fix this problem is to install that kill switch but I just can't see how that will fix anything. In theory, when you disconnect something it no longer works, so when the ANC is disconnected the it won't work, that's the way I understand it. Sorry for the long post.
The stereo shop you took it to does not know what they are talking about...? I have done several od these Accords... disconnect the ANC... Problem solved. Even on the older Accords.... clipping the Mic wires worked to defeat the ANC.
Yes it will make it the noise in the cabin louder since the ANC is active noise canceling. By disconnecting it you disable the noise canceling when the windows are up.
Anyone here knows if I can swap out the bass speaker or woofer in the 2.0t touring its in the back between 4 speakers. Just swap it out for a better woofer same size same radio and no Amp. Just to improve bass a bit more

Easy 10 mins until you get to closing the glove box. Most annoying thing especially when u haven’t ever worked on cars. Broke the stupid thing trying to close it. Hold 1 and 6 at the same time and press your stereo off button while still holding 1 & 6. Release everything then press 1 to turn off anc. Turn off your car stereo and turn it back on to remove the menu. Your anc will be disconnected until you turn the car off and you have to repeat the steps again.

it will fix that issue. this is a stupid function that adds problems to aftermarket stuff.
Would disabling this allow the engine and exhaust to sound better?
Thanks for the help!! That was driving me crazy! It actually worked just as explain
What a breeze to do! I'm new to Honda, I really appreciate this video! Thanks man.
By disconnecting the ANC will playing music on Apple Car Play or Bluetooth be affected?
Send some of that rain to CA! 😩😩
I wish I could

Yoo Thx you bro That help me so much
What is the ANC used for in the car...for instance, since u disconnected it...what is NOT going to work now?
ANC stands for Active Noise Cancelling. It helps cancel out noises to keep the interior of the cabin quieter. So far I haven't noticed a difference.
As soon as I disconnected the anc the subwoofer doesn't get as loud.. did u have the same issue? I have the same subwoofer as u
After disconnecting, could you hear any difference in engine sounds? My understanding is that same system is responsible for "enhancing" the sound of the engine.
Great question I'd like to know about this also
So far I haven't noticed any difference in sound in the interior of the cabin from road noise/engine noises. I will keep you updated if that changes.

What is the anc module for?
Did you also have the issue where the sound system amplified the sound of the vehicle when in sport mode if so did this fix the issue?
VALLEY BOY 818 the module controls the vehicle sound as well. So it should fix that

What is ANC?
Active Noise Cancelling
