To all the people complaining and saying buy the controller on that color like have you seen how much a fucking controller costs . Prices are ridiculous for the colored ones. The go from 60 to 100 or more. The shell is only like 12 to 20 bucks and you can change the color to your controller to whatever you want. I like the video it explains it very well.
I hate how the PS3 and PS4 controllers are so complicated to do compared to the Xbox 360/xbox one controllers, but the PS4 controller is still the best controller ever made imo.

All people complaining about broken controllers, it's entirely you fault anyone with a brain knows that electronics are stupidly complex and you a normal person meddling with it isn't a smart thing to do, this person clearly knows his way around the controller and the electronics behind it.
guys its really hard to get the shell off because its so tight together, be careful or you'll snap the motor wires like the guy has done so in this video. if you snap the motor wires your vibration on the controller will brake.
heyy, so I'm at the part where we put the usb port back in, and my controller has only one screw, two screw holes, BUT. they are verticle (one on top of other, not beside each other) I'm wondering if there is different models?? have you heard this before??anyway so now I'll have a chrome front and a solid black...kinda annoying as this is my first time and it's taking for ever. but so far this video is amazing.
I already had to take my controller apart to replace the circuit ribbon and it dawned on me that I could do this and have the controller of my dreams! I think I know what I need but I cringed when you took apart the touchpad. I think i"ll leave mine black for the moment. Taking apart the controller is a lot easier than what most would think. You just need patience and be easy with it. Rip it apart and you'll need either a new part or an entirely new controller. I bet you could make a killing doing this for people who are too afraid to do it on their own.

No it doesn't. At least not the touch gestures. I'm not sure if it's a paint issue or the thickness of the plastic on the replacement part, but I had very spotty functionality at best. It wasn't usable.
It's so easy. Just practice. Take an old controller and experiment. I'm always changing my shells, buttons, colors. my friends think I bought a custom controller, but it's just how you pick the new colors.
I've done this for 3 controllers now. The first one is fully functional and works perfect but for some reason on the next 2 everything works fine except for the r2 button. That is literally the only button not registering. Do you have any idea why?
lol Step 2: Open casing..............Step 3: remove ribbon cable..... Shouldn't step 2 have been carefully open the back taking extra care not to damage the connected ribbon cable? Or something anyway.. I wonder how many people opened it before seeing step 3..? 187 so far I'm guessing.. ;) However, it did help me replace my shell, so, thanks man.. :D
i spilled some pineapple juice over my controller and the buttons got all sticky and I couldn't play. so i had to disasemble it and clean it out. this helped a lot.

What I don't get is of you have one of the new controllers, there's a light across the front of the touch pad that won't work if you change it. And also, how did you get the triggers out so easily? The triggers, options and share button seemed to all be impossible to remove for me
Metal aluminium thumbs are the best. Not only will they never ware they give a nice weight to the thumbsticks and to me the movement feels a lot more fluid.

Opened up 2 controllers, replaced the sheel and buttons on one and only buttons on the other, work like a charm, nice work mate!

I just replaced a different model controller with a different model shell and it was very tough but managed to do it in the end :)
