Enjoyed the show. Loved Fareed's answers. I have been following him in India when I attend IIT and then when we both came to the U.S. I am a 30- year veteran of silicon chip manufacturing at Texas Instruments.
Fareed, while number 1 in global knowledge is dead wrong on the silicon chip; "who will win the chip wars." because of inexperience is chip manufacturing.
In the last 50 years, the US share of global semiconductor manufacturing fell from 100% to 8%, while capturing over 80% of world market in designs (Nvidia, QUALCOMM, Broadcom, AMD etc. This has negatively affected the US GDP by > $1 Trillion. Today, the U.S. cannot make 3 and 5 nm chips, needed for AI. Taiwan leads the world.
In spite of the $52 Billion in US Government funds and $480 Billion in private funds, the US will marginally improve, or the situation will worsen. Why prop up companies who are incompetent in chip manufacturing? Asia manufactures 77% of chips globally. This gap will widen.
The intrinsic problem is that the right and necessary information is often unobserved, unrecognized, or insufficient to prevent problems that have already been solved. This manifests itself in lower chip cost (due to higher output and high yields) and superior device performance. In a nutshell, the collective and cumulative engineering skills in TSMC and Asia surpass that of the US by a large margin and there is no program in the U.S. that closes this gap. This is both a cultural problem and a lack of technical understanding at the high levels of the company, wasting money on Machine learning and AI, being marketed as magic bullets while not improving intrinsic engineering skills or the waferfab performance.

11:15 On Bangladesh, again there is no recognition of the fact that it's a country which came into existence because of India. Secondly, there is no talk of atrocities raining upon Hindu minorities which was similar to 1971 and also no worry expressed about it becoming East Pakistan all over again. There was this first Pakistans ship which docked at Chittagong after 1971, God knows carrying what ?? Third, there's no recognition of the fact that terror activities happening inside Bangladesh aimed at India stood squeezed under the Hasina Government. Fourth, to say that India should maintain an arm's distance from Bangladesh today is being okay with drunken driving. All of Fareed Zakaria's replies are laced with indifference towards India and safety of the Hindu Community in Bangladesh.
