Did he play scared in the pocket at times? Sure. But his left tackle is gonna be playing guard this year. Coaches don't think he was best option for protecting that man's blindside. So you think maybe the QB had some legitimate concerns too maybe?

I hope that Payton Thorne has a great season and elevates his game. I watched the A-day game and all the chatter up to that point. His first possession of the A-day game was him tucking and running. That showed me he hadn’t learned anything. This staff is killing it! Cry about it if you don’t like PT. You can’t change it. Why not just support him? You’ve got a fantastic coach that knows what he’s doing offensively. Take like two seconds to realistically assess who is better equipped to decide who the QB needs to be - YOU or Hugh 😂😂😂 some of y’all sound so stupid it’s embarrassing. “NO NO NO I know more than you and the coaching staff! I played football in high school blah blah blah.”
Like Zac said, Payton just has to not screw it up. Those of you that say he can’t complete a pass are just willingly ignoring his capabilities. He’s no world beater, but he would’ve had a plenty good year last year if any of those receivers that are now gone (BECAUSE THEY WEREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. THIS IS SIMPLE PEOPLE) could’ve caught a pass that hit em right in the hands. Shoot even Rivaldo turned into Mr. Brick Hands at times last year, and he’s obviously a great player. Zac you are 100% right. Not all be but many fan are very simplistic in their overall football knowledge and how offense plays are developed. All these fans know is QB throw football and receiver catches football. It is the QB fault if the receiver didn’t catch the football. These fans don’t see (#1) the elite defender who block, intercepted, or prevented receiver separation, (#2) the unchallenged defensive edge rusher who was in the QB’s face with pressure when he threw the ball, (#3) the lack of better offensive play calling schemes with regards to offensive blocking, receiver route running, and play diversions to fool the defenders that are most suited for the quarterback to be more successful. Not even on replay do these fans see the 3 to 5 other unsung offensive players whose play directly contributed to making a pass play successful. Sometimes a QB do have to salvage a play but that should be rare, not frequent.

PT, based on last year and after considering everything around him, did not look like a net top 4 SEC QB. With all the new coaches and players, I dont see AU reeling off a top 4 offense in spite of a say #12 QB as PT playing. Of course it could happen, but lets see.
