Like the vid. Old rule for length of dock lines. Each line should be at least the length of the boat. Can coil the extra or do like you did. What are those overhead lines stretching to poles attached to the pilings?

I totally agree. And that is mono (fishing line) that is stretched across the pool a bunch of times. It was done by the owners of the house as an attempt to keep ducks from landing in their pool.

I’d love to see one of these for pillings on both sides

what's with all the knots at the end of the dock lines on the pilings? never saw that before.

They are just standard daisy chains. I do that to all my excess dock line when the boat is tied up as a way to make it look all nice and tidy and what not. It makes the boats whole dock presence quite impressive. Ties it up nicely.

My understanding of spring line naming is a little different. Forward spring - dock to bow of vessel and stops forward movement. Aft spring - dock to stern of vessel and stops aft movement.

They both achieve the same task but are just different ways of going about it. I was always taught this way through my boating education and experience but both with do I presume.

@@NickOlinde yes agree. What you refer to forward spring, I call aft spring. What you call an aft spring, I call forward spring. Terminology only - the line do the job of holding the vessel. BTW, loved your vid on docking. Excellent explanation and the coverage from several perspectives is gold.

What knot are you using at the core of the piling?

Are you talking about to tie the line to the piling?

Please get some proper sun glasses that fit you unless it's a nerves condition. Good video though.

I am not quite sure why you feel the need to comment this? If it is not positive then don’t comment it. I do not have a nerves condition and my sunglasses fit just fine. I’ve been wearing them for years. I tend to sweat a lot and these Ray Ban aviators have solid plastic nose pieces so they get a little slippery when they are wet with my sweat. My regular boating/fishing glasses with rubber nose pieces do not have this issue. I just love these sunglasses so happily put up with this tiny issue
