I don’t understand why there are 185 dislikes to this clip - Jamaicans for the majority have a tough life but beneath all that they have love, compassion and lots of hospitality. They truly appreciate the worth tourism brings. Big love.
There's a very unique and special spirit in Jamaica and it's like no place I've ever been before. Every time I arrive in Mo'Bay and walk out into the sunshine I literally feel like I am arriving home. It's a feeling I can't truly explain. I love Jamaica and I pray for her people that they will one day soon have everything they deserve after years and years of being deprived and systematically held back.

As a female Canadian who has been to Jamaica 10 times and travelled outside the tourist areas, I can tell you the best thing about Jamiacs is the PEOPLE ❤. If you were to take a walk down a road with houses, someone will invite you to dinner. They are beautiful, strong, friendly and very spiritual. Next is the music and overall vibe. Then of course is the beautiful landscape and ocean. I wish they would leave tip boxes for the people who get up before dawn to make the beaches beautiful for the tourists. I need to go back just to talk with Michael Livingston. 😍

Well done! I appreciate this glimpse into your experience there and hearing from the people you interviewed. I hope you continue to make more of these in your life. I am heading to Jamaica for the first time soon. Trying to learn what I can before I go.
You have the talent of a great documentary maker. You kept my attention and I didn't want the video to end. I can see you must have been on vacation with your family and that's why you only interviewed the locals that on are on the beach. Good for you for taking the time to learn the culture you were in instead of just staying on your resort, in the pool or in your room. I started going to Negril in 2005 at the Riu Negril. I've went back every year since then and I too love to talk to the people. I've learned so much and have a deep love for the people and the country. We come back each year for our friends we made that we miss so much when we are home. We stay in contact throughout the year. When we are there we are with our local friends all day just talking and going off the beaten path. I've seen things no tourist will ever see. When my friends who we think of as family now say "where yuh wanna go?" My reply is always "take me where there are no white people." Lol I can't stand most tourist. Especially the ones that forget they are in another country. Complain there is no Budweiser or Grey Goose Vodka on resort etc. You're in Jamaica drink rum and red stripe, jeez. I find the people of Jamaica to be honest, respectful and full of integrity. Besides the beauty of all of Jamaica, it's the people that have me coming back year after year. I leave in 2 weeks and 4 days and cannot wait to get back only this time I'm bring 9 other friends who want to meet my friends of Jamaica and see what I see. They are very excited and so are my friends in Jamaica. Our days are already planned when we get there. We don't take excursions anymore with the resort we give our money to our friends instead. I'd rather be on a private boat with my people only vs a huge catamaran with a time limit and 100 or more tourists, drunk and splashing so much that you can't even see pretty fish in the Caribbean. Plus I've learned why make the rich even richer. Support local because these resort owners don't give two shits about the people of Jamaica. They don't pay their employees enough, they are taking advantage of the government being corrupt. The thought that our maid who works her butt off all day, long hours and only makes $65 to $80 a week US dollars makes me sick. I always find my maid and pay her two weeks pay for the week. I personally hand it to her. Big up to those that work the resorts but I can see why most locals would want to work the beach. More money to feed their family and make a living. I could go on forever. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
This is so powerful. I first visited JM in 2001 and have returned every few years since then. When I go I try to visit local places and purchase from vendors in order to support them, and I enjoy taking time to talk with people and learn about their lives. And yes, regarding your comment about the maids, I make a point to pay them extra for putting up with us visitors. I wish I could do more to support the people back a yard whom I consider my family.
What is wrong with the interviewees they speak from their heart and that's what counts most.because you're educated you feel ashame of how they answer the questions.you got to remember that English is not our original language.so what if they dont phrase their answers correctly or put the correct words into context, you understand fully what they mean and that's what counts.

Jamaica: a place where if there was enough employment, I'm betting VERY few would look for opportunity elsewhere. As an old time reggae lyric once said: 'too many dog/not enough bone'.

This was an excellent video with excellent topics and very real, honest responses. Gid bless you for this great work AND for acknowledging your parents :-)
Nicely done. Heading there soon. Will be staying in a locally owned guest house and eating locally - avoiding resorts and contributing to the economy directly.
Very good video.Well documented about the people. Of course JA is a beautiful place and there is good and bad everywhere. Jamaicans are very spiritual and strong people, and belive the almight himself.
Sonny, this video makes Mamma want to go back to Jamaica even more! Great background capture and great overall capture of the beautiful people and places - even if your mini documentary was one-sided. Jamaica is one of the few islands where you can actually drink the water and for a small island, it's amazingly modernized. There's a Burger King there???? Holy Jesuit! It's been centuries since Mamma visited but it's definitely time for me to return.
this is so true i'm a Jamaica born and raise, never in my life time travel to a next country grow up in a in the parish of Clarendon but to discuss the lock of job in Clarendon is another story to be told so i relocated myself to negril where i stay by strangers i then got a job at a hotel called (Idle Awhile) work for a years build my house but then new management came in and was trick and force out of a job where am still current likely unemployed.....so your video is a good link to see what Jamaica is really what it is .......
I loved my experience in Jamaica. I stayed in Negril at white sands but traveled to Ocho rios, montego bay, and Kingston. loved every minute in Jamaica. take me back!
Quite enlightening. Enjoyed the beauty of course but the people seem very nice and friendly; quite a different impression than some videos, especially the attitudes toward Americans in general. Would love to visit Jamaica and mingle with these gentle, very resourceful people. Yes, resourceful indeed. Much respect for them!
I've been to New York City and seen many homeless people living on the streets, begging at stop lights, singing and playing instruments for tourists on the side walk. completely the same scenario you showed in in Jamaica only this is New York. Now, what if I interviewed these same homeless and underprivileged people in New York, what would these people tell me? Obviously they don't represent the entire country.
loved it there! very friendly people, some are fast in your face for selling stuff tough, this is true but if you have the right attitude you will be fine, peace from a french Canadian.
Anyone been to Negril? Thinking of taking a trip there but i need access to decent wifi. Are there some coffee shops, co working spaces or hotels that offer a decent connection?
My people are Desendants of Arawak Indians and Carib I dnt think they will die in six years if my uncle lived to see 105years of staying on one island they have natural food there so they are more likely to live longer than us Amerindians
First and foremost, I am a Jamaican. Secondly, you can't compare Jamaica to the US. The US is the most developed and powerful country in the world. The US is richer than most, if not, all the countries in the world- not just Jamaica. Besides, Jamaica, like most countries, have very wealthy places and very poor and underdeveloped places. Negril, for the most part, is one of the most underdeveloped places/parishes in Jamaica, despite the fact that it is known for its tourism. Most of the people you interviewed in this video are the stereotypical Jamaicans: the Rastafarian, the poor and under-educated Jamaicans. Your impression of Jamaica, if based solely on these interviewees and their perceptions and on this part of the country that you have visited, will not only be skewed but also flawed. You can't interview a few under-educated Jamaicans on a beach and get a true idea of Jamaicans and Jamaica. This will naturally result in the perpetuation of stereotypes. You don't find the average Jamaican on a beach carving woods/selling clothes. In fact, only a very few Jamaicans are actually Rastafarian or smoke. People in the US, and other countries other than Jamaica and the US, have a greater propensity to smoke and abuse drugs. Further, I think Jamaica is developed in terms of infrastructure than a lot of other countries that are considered rich or richer than Jamaica because of GDP per capita. The problem with Jamaica is unemployment or underemployment which is not necessarily a reflection of the development of the country. By that I mean, your country can be developed but still plagued by other macro-economic problems such as unemployment. What Jamaica needs is a reduction in the unemployment level and an increase in the GDP per capita.
jamdawgutube It appears as if you are saying that the Rastafarian, the poor and the under-educated were not the right persons to be interviewed. The rasta man that said he dislike the skin teeth fake people is far more intelligent than your intellectual ramblings above. If anything you are the prejudice one who feel that there are some people in Jamaica that does not have anything to contribute. Who is a stereotypical Jamaican? Out of Many We are One. Every Jamaican's opinion is of value. Who are you to be saying " You can't interview a few under-educated Jamaicans on a beach and get a true idea of Jamaicans and Jamaica"? Where did you see anyone using drugs. Is Marijuana a drug because the rasta man uses it or because America fooled you into despising it until they find the way to make millions from it? On one hand it sounds as though you are defending the country but your bigotry strongly interrupted that dialogue. If you are Jamaicans, I do not like your kind. Big up to the Rastaman for being so bold and honest in his answers. I enjoyed hearing from all my fellow Jamaicans, appreciate the making of this video even if I sensed ridicule and sometimes a prejudicial portrayal of our people and condition. All who don't like Jamaicans can go drive off a cliff unto sharp rocks below.
+Jenni rren Unedited IMHO, you got offended and YOU MISSED THE POINT! +jamdawgutube was merely saying that the interview SHOULD INCLUDE OTHER ASPECTS OF and PERSONALITIES AT OTHER ECONOMIC LEVELS to illustrate to non-Jamaicans the VARIETY of people who live in Jamaica. By constantly only interviewing the poor, people of one ethnicity etc people abroad think ALL Jamaicans are Black and Rastafarian, Ganja smokers. THIS PERPETUATES A STEREOTYPE and an INCORRECT VIEW. Someone who is a Rastafarian/Ganja smoker should not feel offended because PRIORITY to our Motto "OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE" should take priority. Too many times in the U.S. Chinese, White, Indian etc Jamaicans are told they are liars when they tell people they are Jamaican.
Jamaican people are poor, rastafarian, black. it is these individuals many want to hide in sharing the news about the beauty of this land. Those who object to this sample being used are individuals who view these groups as someones to be ashamed of. Chinese, white and Indian have platforms for their stories to be told.. they will live. Who care what people think..let them think whatever the hell they want to think. I want to see the poor, the Rasta and all the disenfranchised groups in Jamaica. highlighted, not some bourgeois 5% been shown off as the desirable goodness of Jamaica. If individuals feel they have to validate their Jamaican-ness they are a part of the problem. If I look white and tell someone that I am Jamaican and they don't believe me that is their problem not mine. The thing is if you are concerned that these groups stereotype the typical Jamaican its because you don't want to associate with these groups whom you feel prejudice toward. How dare anyone think these are the "real" Jamaican. Take your fake self and your flawed rhetoric elsewhere. The majority of Jamaicans are the stereotypical images and I love it.. I don't buy into stereotype so I don't pay attention to it.
CAN YOU HAVE A DECENT CONVERSATION WITHOUT DEROGATORY REMARKS?! I am Jamaican and not prejudiced against my own people! JUST INFORMED. Only SOME Jamaicans are poor, Rastafarian and black. People like you UNDERMINE the GOALS of UNITY of our nation, by not acknowledging ALL of what Jamaica has to offer. May God deliver you from your BITTERNESS to DEMONSTRATE the LOVING, PEACEFUL ASPECT that our MOTTO declares "OUT OF MANY ONE PEOPLE." That doesn't take away from acknowledging the poor etc. The majority of Jamaicans are Christian, OVER 60%. RASTAFARIANS ARE LESS THAN 10%. I'm done #OneLove
1%?! AGAIN WITH THE DEROGATORY REMARKS AND YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ME! You need to do a class in Critical Thinking because your ability to reason is FLAWED. Your comments ARE FILLED WITH SUCH HATRED & BITTERNESS IT IS OBVIOUS YOU ARE A SAD HUMAN BEING. #CommonSenseIsNotCommon Only God can open up your mind. BTW, the God you berate, BOB MARLEY had enough sense to REVERE before he left the earth, instead of worshiping Haile Selassie. I'm DONE!
Thank you Thank you! (Jenni rren Unedited) I am so enrage by this Hypocrite and he/she judgmental comment. I am a Jamaican and the best people in Jamaica to get a true knowledge of Jamaica and Jamaicans are the genuine down to earth Jamaican who believes in our Motto. Out of Many One People, this pampered ass who think that they have a bit of education so they themselves are better than the rest of their fellow Jamaican are the problem why Jamaica and Jamaicans are still struggling. How dear this person put such disrespectful comment about fellow Jamaicans? I grow up in Green Island going to Negril before all these hotels and everything else!!! I was going to Negril every school holiday to the beach, when Craft Market was the top business in Negril in a pickup back without shoes just flip-flop and was able to play freely without restrictions. Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Politician and Lawyers gain their education from their parents doing this very Jobs and hustling as we all called it on the 7 miles of White sand Beaches in Negril. I have a few Friends who will be interesting in this comment as family members might be in this video. Please don't get me started about this person perception on Rastafari and Rastafarians, my Gran-Uncle was one of the most educated man I know and his children are some of the better off Jamaicans I know and he was my his soul rest in peace a Rastafarian. They now own mansions as this fool would look up to Plaza and you name it. While me with my college education is still slaving away for a few pounds. (£) With Jamaican like this Jamaican don't need enemies. We have our own. Unite and Build my Fellow Jamaican Divide and conquer!!!!!!
Negril Jamaica is one of the most beautiful places on the planet I just wish some of the street vendors would stop trying to charge me $4 for a mango telling me it's imported :-)

Negril Jamaica best people one guy picked me up in canoe and took me lobster fishing unreal like a movie the sights
Will be visiting Negril early 2018 for my 30th - looks like paradise and ganja man ;) Cant wait!!!!! 23 months and counting down lol.
j4zmine how it was? :)
Hopefully I will be visiting this upcoming April! The sunset palms
Lovely vid,I hope they get a few pennys more in tips etc,God bless,Give thanks X,
Great video, and Michael Livingston, lol, would be my buddy

The thing that is best about Jamaica is the people.
ONE LOVE TO THE WORLD....
Great video. Original.
Que lugar lindoooo
I'm DONE!
I like that old man with white undershirt,🥰🥰😙🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
That guy @4:10 sounds like a real pirate

Their FEELING GUILTY CAUSE MY SKIN IS BLACK 2019 LOVE YOU ALL *ONE LOVE-- ONE HEART *
Love Jamaica from russia
Great Video!
Denise Brown,I thought I was the only one who get enrage by these close minded so-called educated Jamaicans.
The government sucks!! 4:59
Negril Jamaica is one of the most beautiful places on the planet I just wish some of the street vendors would stop trying to charge me $4 for a mango telling me it's imported :-)
Visited Jamaica in July 2019 and it's absolutely beautiful. The people remind me of how people are from the southern states in the US. Very hospitable when you open up them. Subscribe to my channel and watch my interveiw with a local Jamaica cab driver during my stay.
