    The pink part on the heel is basically for a little more stability for the extension of the react midsole for a better feel. Just putting that out there. Love the channel man!

      Sure, but does it work? That's my gripe. A plastic horseshoe. There has to be something more elegant.

    I have about 50 miles on mine and love them. Reminiscent of Hoka but in my opinion significantly more responsive. I haven’t experienced the sloppiness you describe, maybe because I’m only 5’6” and 155lbs. In size 8.5 they are even lighter which is something I really appreciate. The upper is awesome, Very happy with the shoe. Definitely try and source the vaporfly 4 if you can. I ran a pr on the nyc half two weeks ago.I’m not suggesting the shoe makes you faster, however my legs felt great after the race, something I haven’t experienced in my last 5 half marathons

      How has the cushioning (react foam) held up? Have you experienced them flatten out at all prematurely?

    I've put about 40mi in my pair and I'm in love. The flyknit upper is crazy comfortable and needs no breaking in. I ran a 5k in them right out the box. The new react midsole is no joke. My last shoe was the OG LunarEpic Flyknit, and the react improved on everything I loved about the LunarEpics. The reacts are crazy light, giving the perfect amount of cushion while still being very very responsive. Idk if it's just a placebo but these shoes seem to reward good form, giving just a little more energy return with a higher cadence. So far these have worked great in different scenarios. I've done a couple 10mi runs, many 2-4 mi runs and some intervals in these all on road and treadmill. As far as looks, it's Nike, so you know it's 10/10. Hopefully they release a Gyaksou collab or high top version like the OG LunarEpic.

    I think they are amazing, very responsive and comfortable. They are difficult to find, I got mine on Hong Kong and just realized I got the black ones that haven't been released yet in the US.

    I ran about 30 miles in these shoes and also wore them casually for another 10. I had to return them due to a manufacturer defect. If you look at the comments on Nike’s site (sort by lowest rating) you’ll see user reviews that comment about a clicking noise the shoe makes when walking in it. You’ll then see Nike reps commenting about the defect.
    My thoughts.
    Super comfortable.
    Size, went half size up. Fit nicely in forefoot.
    Looks - awesome.
    Heel fit - poor. You can’t do heel lock lacing either because necessary eyelet is missing.
    I’ll be interested to see how many miles people get in these.

    I've added these into my rotation but they have been the shoe I have given more miles too. I was skeptical on the 10mm drop as well however 150 miles in and I am hooked. 2 pairs in rotation! 40-45mpw

    I’ve had this shoe since they were released in the UK and I must say the marketing campaign almost compelled me to buy them, like 4 weeks before I bought the brooks ghost 10, which I will add are an amazing pair of running shoes anyone needed a new pair should try them, now to get on to the react- simply amazing I have done 6-7 10+ mile runs and countless fartlek session and they make every workout enjoyeable I rotate this with my brooks and they are noticeably lighter 100% more responsive and from mile 1 to mile 10 they feel the same if anyone has the chance to try them on have a try, I geninuly feel like this shoe has improved my running technique it almost makes you focus more

    I had the same problem with the insole moving around and hurting my foot but with the Lunar Epic low 2. Good to know that this Epic React have the same problem with a super low quality insole inside.

    the nike store in nyc hyped this thing up so much. The whole bottom floor was dedicated to the shoe, and they had this glass box with one of those curved treadmills that you power yourself. I took four steps and nearly fell off the thing, all while having the whole freaking city watch me.

    Hi Ethan, I have been running in this shoe for a couple of weeks and I am sad to say but it's replacing my hoka's. It's a big call for me considering I have had 2 pairs of the clifton 1's, 5 pairs of the clifton 3's, one pair of the clifton 4's, and it rides a lot like the clayton 2 but with better energy return, and the upper walks all over it as the clayton 2 gives me blisters. I am in the same boat as you as it has become my go to shoe. I have to say the after running in the nike elite 9 compared to the elite 8, and now the epic react, nike has lifted it game. Can't wait to see the rest of the react series they plan to bring out..

    • @jeremiahradel
      @jeremiahradel 6 лет назад +2

      Did you ever run in The Mach? I, same as you, have been wearing Hoka since the Clifton 1. I typically race Ironman in the Clayton but The Mach is so much firmer; definitely a different shoe. I'd love to hear Ethan do a review of it. Anyway, I'm excited to try this shoe since I'm officially without a race shoe unless I go with the Skechers Go Run 5 or 6.

    • @roostermiller
      @roostermiller 6 лет назад +1

      Jeremiah Radel haven't ran in the mach. I have ran in the go run 5 and would recommend it. Brilliant up tempo shoe. Runs a lot like a kinvara but a little more softer in the heel and fore foot. Super flexable. The upper is great too and a nice roomy toe box

    • @jeremiahradel
      @jeremiahradel 6 лет назад +2

      rooster miller I actually have the Go Run and love it. Fantastic shoe! It’ll be perfect for a half Ironman but I’m skeptical of the support towards the end of 140.6 miles.

      rooster miller i like hokas and i like the epic react. However taking into account durability alone, i would purchase the epuc reacts again and perhaps the Odyssey reacts due to lower price but same resilient midsole.. my hoka machs..although i love em and prefer the lower drop and quicker transition ..i wont be buying again..

      Bought them - ran 3 miles and returned them. 10mm drop is too much - I've been running in 0-4mm and these felt like I was running in heels. The midsole is definitely interesting and when they shorten the drop I'll try them again. Also, they are selling for 150.

    I have them in mostly black with the blue plastic part of the heel. I had to go a half size up as the upper was a little tight on my feet. I love doing easy/recovery runs in the epic react. They look really dope as a casual wear. Overall i love this shoe! I want to buy them in the other colors as well.

    • @Notwhatyour

      Ramelro Crawford , the black one is a hard one to find , and resell is a$75. Premium rite now.
      Hope Nike will restock soon.
      What is your main running shoe ?

    • @Ramelro
      @Ramelro 6 лет назад

      Aaron C Sherwin hey I primarily run in the zoom structure. I just needed a softer cushioning for my easier runs. My area had a bunch of the black.

    • @DavidLee-gp6ks
      @DavidLee-gp6ks 6 лет назад

      Ramelro Crawford I used the zoom structure 29 about a year ago so I can compare the two. It's WAY more cushioned than the zoom structure. It also has much more energy return. The react midsole makes others feel dead. the Flyknit upper is crazy comfortable and needs no breaking in. I ran a 5k in the reacts right out the box. You probably will experience loss in support since the zoom structures main focus is stopping over pronation.

    • @Ramelro
      @Ramelro 6 лет назад

      David Lee yea i know the difference. I run in both. And like them both for different reasons. I’ll disagree with the “need no breaking in” part. The upper was a little snug to the top of my foot but after a week of running and walking in them it was much better. Overall ridiculously comfortable though

    Excellent review. I got mine today and went for a test run in these this evening. They are much better than I expected, impressive energy return and comfortable. I'd be interested in your views on the Vaporfly 4%, my pair have died after 140 miles and I'm now hunting for the next pair, wearing them genuinley makes me enjoy running faster for longer distances. Keep up the good reviews!

    I bought these a couple of weeks ago and have done around 100k in them and it seems they will last a quite long time. In short I just love these shoes, from now on these will be my go to shoe for longer road distances along with the Brooks Launch. I have mostly done long runs on these shoes but I will try them out for shorter distances and speed work.

    I ran (a great many kms) in the lunar epic low, and loved its softness -- but for the 'float' in all directions on top of the cushioning instability. Did not get that with this shoe, although its softer. I think that heel extension and plastic thingy has a lot to do with that, although how the new foam reacts to pressure might be at the root of the more stable feeling platform. I ran 60 or 70 km in this shoe and loved it but in the end, to my heartbreak (as it was to replace my epic low for the easy run days) I sent it back. The 'tongue' of the shoe is so inconsequential that for my high insteps it meant irritation to now lasting (getting over it) pain on the top of my feet -- there is no inner layer on the tongue so the laces where they enter the shoe and then exit it again for we high arched, anyway, created considerable dig in wear and tear! I checked my Vapour Flys and even they have a layer between the laces and the foot on the inside of the tongue. Now I wait patiently for the React cushioning to appear on a different shoe. I'd still highly recommend the use of these shoes. Loved the ride and their invisible weight.

  • @15thirty
    @15thirty 6 лет назад

    Yeah, I find myself reaching for my pair of these more often than I expected. The closest competitors that I have tried are the Ultra Boost and Freedom ISO, and I have to say the Epic React is my favorite of the three. While the other two feel more comfortable in general, I enjoy running in the Nikes more. I think it has to do with the weight and upper, which creates a barely there feel.

  • @tcrrolle1004

    I will honestly say that I tried Brooks (all brands), and they make my shins hurt. I've tried Asics which in turn leave my shins and knees sore. I never thought that Nike would make a sure for running. I tried these shoes after some research from different post. These are the best shoes I have worn for running, period. The midsole takes all the pressure off my shins, especially inner shins and I actually feel the natural role of my feet as I run. I'm not popping Motrin because of pain after a 7 or 8 mile run, also I can run almost every day with very little discomfort. I really like the cushion and response ration. I got them for only $90. Brooks cost well into the $120's, don't know what all the hype is over them anyway. Thanks for your post.

    Sick review I don't have the epic react yet ! Nut I do have a pair of the odessey react sheild 2 mouthful but a good runner the only thing I don't like about all of the react models is they are a narrow fit and I have a wide foot and I also normally take a size 9 but I went a half size up and I could still go to a size 10 easily .

    I've got about 100 miles in them so far. Love the react cushioning (my favorite so far - also run in Kinvara 8, Zoom Elite 9, and Launch 5) but not the flyknit upper. It just doesn't work well with my foot shape - too tight on the midfoot and, if I loosen the lacing, the heel doesn't lock down enough. Normally, I can always find a way to adjust the lacing to accommodate but the lacing system is different in this shoe and not as easy to adjust. If anyone has any ideas about how to lock down the heel without making the midfoot too tight, please let me know. For now, I've added moleskin padding to the heel and that's much better.

    Hey Ethan, would you be able to comment on shape (on this shoe and future videos)? With Altra building on a foot-shaped last and others (Adidas) using a last that puts the big toe quite central - and everything in between... it seems like ‘shape’ is worth talking about. Many people mention fit and width but rarely talk about shape.

I just went for my first run in these and they are AWESOME! 10 miles including 4x5 minute hill reps and my legs feel fresh as a daisy after. I'm exhausted but wow, this reminds me of the Clifton 1 post runs... but better DURING the run. But like you, I felt a sliding feeling towards the end of the run on flat sections.

    Bought a pair recently for RM220 (ringgit malaysia)
    Waited for the discount after a year plus
    Totally... totallyyyyy worth it!
    But like u have said it, not too great for sharp corners, other than that, its all good...!

    I really like this shoe, but the skin of my foot is really thin, so I have to use it with long socks for my heels don´t get cut, and also had to buy one size biger than mine

    I'm a fan of the shoes but share very similar dislikes as you Ethan. The insoles definitely move around quite a bit and I'm nervous to turn too quickly and blow out the sides of the shoes.

    Yeah man. Quick video request. I have tried all sorts of shoes, and what most of them lack is enough forefoot cushioning. I mean monster heels but brutal forefoot. I don’t get this, because that’s where the cush should be. Where’s the Cush? With your guidance I could have soft pillows to run with. Please, and thank you.

      Try a Hoka, e. g. the Napali. It has cushioning throughout the foot and therefore only 5mm heel drop.

    My size is 10.5 (US) and find that it runs smaller than I expected. Just walking, the heel counter really really jams into my foot. Additionally, the shoe looks like a banana hammock for my feet.

    It’s not like this shoe has a stack height of a Hoka. I don’t think 10 is bad. If you can run with a midfoot strike for the most part it shouldn’t really bother you. But I know everyone doesn’t. I might give these a try though.

    Can you do Adidas Adizero Adios 3, Adidas Takumi Ren 3 and/or Asics DynaFlyte 2? - hype or not? My marathons going to be in 3 weeks and (I know its not ideal) I need a new pair as soon as possible. Your reviews are awesome by the way.

    • @KasterJ
      @KasterJ 6 лет назад +1

      I hated my Machs. Felt fantastic out of the box but after 30 miles the whole thing went to pieces. The laces started to cut the tendon at the top of my foot and the my arch on my right foot would start to ache almost immediately on the start of a run. I will say that the cushioning is fantastic really love it but the other problems after around 30 miles done (total) in them meant that I had to bin them.

    How many miles have you put in with the reacts, and what do you think the durability of the outsole will be? A lot of reviews I’ve read claim it wears quickly since it’s mostly foam.

    Great shoe! Put in around 60 miles in them and I continue to grab them. So far so good on durability.
    The only issue I've had so far is a slight rub on my achilles during a long run. Just need to make sure my socks don't slip.

    I’m curious how the heel cushioning is compared to the Nike Pegasus. I loved the soft cushioning in ‘older’ Pegasus shoes (26-29) but in any of their 30 and up models I missed the soft cushioning. It would mess with my knees too much. Kinda hoping this new shoe brings that back...

    • @DavidLee-gp6ks
      @DavidLee-gp6ks 6 лет назад +1

      Re Mi for the past few years I've been running exclusively in Nike. The new react midsole does not compare to anything else. The last shoe I had was the LunarEpic Flyknit. Nike seemed to take all the great things about the LunarEpics and made it better with the reacts. The midsole is extremely light, very very cushioned without being too plush. It seems like shoes usually have to sacrifice cushion for energy return but some how Nike increased the energy return and cushioning.
