I've always enjoyed the Nike Terra Kiger series - it's a low-slung, race ready offering and the new 8th version is one of my favorites (mainly because it's on sale for under $100!). What do YOU think of the new Kiger 8?
The Kiger 7 has been one of my favourite shoes in the past year or so. Did my first 50k in them and had a blast. These look so similar that I will probably keep buying up the sale prices 7s, until the 8s go on sale. As you mentioned, one thing Nike is great for is making a ton of colourways and doing sales on the older ones. Great way to get a deal.
Exactly the question I ask myself every single year when Nike doesn’t seem to call Vibram or Continental to provide them with a proper sticky sole compound for their trail shoes… 🙈
I think because they are a large company it will take time to change over to new compound. But both the Peg Trail 4 and the Ultrafly have improved compounds, so maybe next year the Kiger and Wildhorse will change too.
It’s crazy… the overall idea of a mountain running shoe that is bad in wet rocks just doesn’t make any sense. Maybe it was just in muddy conditions it would be ok but wet rocks and wet roots? Crazy (and dangerous).
Started running in these after getting them on super sale at Nike. I enjoy the lower stack and moderately cushioned trail offerings. The super cushy shoes haven’t been friendly to me. The ride is nice in this shoe my main concern was ethical issues with Nike. I wish they did better in that area… it has made me avoid them for a long time.
You introduced me to the Kigers thanks to a Gingermas (I think) prize with the 3's. I've had a pair ever since. I love em for a lower cushion faster shoe. I've even pushed them up to a 50k and felt fine afterwards.
I’ve enjoyed running in the Kiger’s, the lack of grip has always made trail running a little more fun (in a strange kind of way). Still happy with the 7’s but will always keep a pair of Kigers in the rotation.
You've highlighted the the massive issues. Look good and sure they are comfy, but for trails they are crap if there's any type of drizzle, and gets stones in. Wouldnt bother when saucony and Inov8 are killing the market.
Great review, will make a consideration especially if it comes out in more trail like colourway. Will you be reviewing the Pegasus trail 4 anytime soon???
Surprised it’s being recommended as a race day shoe at this weight….11.9oz is really, really heavy. I ran in the Kiger 4 and it was in the lower 9oz range.
I think quoted weight on the review is for a size 11. But checking running warehouse weight for a reference size 9 it's still 10.5oz so definitely not light!
It’s definitely a heavy one, good call, but I think it’s the “nimbleness” and react midsole that make it an interesting choice for me. I agree it could lose an ounce!
I really wanted to like my terra kiger 7’s but the outsoles are the worst outsoles in the industry. Fantastic beginner trail runner though, once you start getting more into technical trail I would use a different shoe. Perfect for dry buffed out trails
Great looking shoe and one that I'd love to try out, but price aside, the adidas TERREX Speed Ultra is likely a better (more comfortable, build, traction) shoe for training and race day, especially for a shoe with a tad more ground feel... Agreed?
It's a great shoe for those fans of "barefoot", "groundfeel" type of shoe but this shoe adds a comfortable feel wich is a great combination in my opinion.
So typical Nike trail shoe Wildhorse or Kiger. Amazing shoe with shitty outsole. Wet grip nonexistent. So the 8. iteration and still the same story. If they only swallow their pride and buy outsole from Vibram, they would have amazing complete shoe. Maybe it would be little more expensive because of megagrip included but I would gladly pay more.

Nike historically has a very bad human rights track record. The swoosh always feels synonymous with slave labor. I haven’t looked into it lately… Have they not cleaned up their act?
@@Sunnydaypicnic I looked into getting ethical runners maybe last year. Nike and new balance have no transparency in their supply chains, which i presume means they're still no good. Other brands, like reebok and adidas, have allowed full audits.
But they are made by someone else's slaves, not ours! If you want to seem ethical just outsource your manufacturing to a country that doesn't care about human rights! This is the beauty of globalization!
@@Sunnydaypicnic Oh thank you for caring Christie!! In December 2021 Nike (and some other brands) was sued by the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights for profiting from forced labour. They still today use factories in countries around the world without humane labour laws and/or controls, something the company freely admits. On the Good Shopping Guide, Ethical Shoes & Trainers Archive, they are the lowest rated running shoe company (closely followed by Mizuno). I'm relieved that there are at least some people out there who do care about these issues!

It's already on clearance? Are a new Wildhorse/kiger on the way?

For me the Kiger is excellent value as a daily trainer. They are insanely comfortable and incredibly durable.
Why does the wet grip have to suck so much! Is it because it never rains at Nike Headquarters in **checks notes** ...Beaverton, Oregon?
Exactly the question I ask myself every single year when Nike doesn’t seem to call Vibram or Continental to provide them with a proper sticky sole compound for their trail shoes… 🙈
Yeah, I’m blown away too! It’s the same with Brooks (Seattle based) - some of their traction is the same which blows my mind

The 3 has been great and has finally reached it's used by date (for me) - just ordered the 8 ($100 US) so am excited !
“Every other shoe manufacturer is most likely taking notes on looks design ” 😂😂😂 other than that the rest was a pretty accurate review. Thank you
Always look forward to your reviews!

What if we all stop wearing Nike Trail until they fix the outsole? Deal?
I’m more interested in the upcoming zoomx Zegama.
Can’t wait to get em into rotation!
Also a big boy. 396g in my UK 13!
The reviews I’ve seen so far suggest the Zegama is a brick and not really really Zoom X. Not the trail super shoe I was expecting.
@@vincewarne228 if that’s the case, I’m still interested in using it as my work shoes because of its rugged design. Lol

Just picked up a pair for my Spartan 10k this weekend. The wet grip worries me be it’s gotta happen now

I've used the 7-th heavily in snow, didn't notice any problems with traction.
Same for me used mine on ice
I feel like the Kigers are getting heavier with each iteration, which is a huge bummer
I hope with the arrival of the Zegama, the Kiger can go light again. Or the Ultrafly will be another light option.

Isn’t this a white trail shoe so some of the review that he’s pointing out sound like you need a rugged shoe
There's a new shoe in nike, the nike zoomX zegama hoping for a review 😇
How would you compair it with the zegama for evryday use(not only running..)?
Are the zegama as breathable as the kiger?
Thanks🤘
Did Nike discontinue the Wildhorse?
You had me at looking good
How many times do you have to re-tie the shoes over a course of a run? Every Nike shoe I run in seems to come un-tied much more than any other brand.
Do a double knot had the same issue 🤙
Hawaiian shirt!! Trendy Dad
Best Kiger was the Kiger 2 in all aspects.
This !

Heavy as f@ck loocking forward for the 9th edition hopefully much lighter
The Kiger peaked at version 3 and has sucked ever since!
Still horrible traction… C’mon Nike… good traction on a trail shoe should not even be a point of discussion
