    A close relationship and a community keeps you calmer and less stressed and this is why they are the top two. I would add, creative living and a sense of purpose, which will also keep you mentally grounded and calmer.

      Alan...Yes, a sense of purpose...a reason to keep going...other people...something more than just a job that we all have to have to pay the bills.

    Speaking for myself, I have only had one flu shot and I was so sick after that, so I in the last 30 years I have never gone back again. I have also not gotten a covid vaccine and am just fine thank you very much.
    As for diet and exercise, I eat what I want walk a mile every day.
    I would add that we need sunshine and fresh air to strengthen our immunities.
    Thanks, Mr David Hoffman, film maker for your videos which are always informative and most interesting.

    I thought getting enough sleep would have been on the list. I quit drinking ten years ago. I never smoked. I ride a bicycle everyday and hit the gym twice a week. I never been over weight. I have trouble sleeping.

    Connections and relationships as well as motivation and life quality are the driving factors which give us most of our well-being. That well being converts itself into longevity..... and health is wealth!
    Great video thank you.

    Unfortunately, the study was done on a group of middle aged people, and only took the data for a 7 year period. If you're younger the study doesn't apply. If you look at the beginning of the TED Talk you will find the focus was on a relatively remote Italian town. Very different cultures.

      Not going gambling on the boat in La. So here substitute that by playing with his great grandchilds.
      I did a lecture on longevity at my community center several years ago based upon the work that has been done in the blue zone for national geographic. If you look at the five blue zones in the world they all have many things in common and obviously community is one of them.

    My biggest regret is that the only person I have socialized with since 2012 when I left college is my mother.
    I had a friend, he taught me French and I taught him English, but I became so ashamed of my mistakes in life and my poor health that I just faded away.
    Every year since I have regretted it. My capacity for love has never diminisheed. If anything it's only grown stronger, but it's only ever played out it in the occasional dream where we're reunited...

    It's not high blood pressure that's bad (at all). It's inflammation. Number one should be stress! Don't sweat the small stuff...or worry too much about how long you'll live.😂😆

    • @marbleman52
      @marbleman52 5 лет назад

      Years ago I first heard the expression " don't sweat the small stuff". As I get older ( 67 now ), I try and live that saying more & more. But first, we have to decide what is "small stuff", and what is the 'large stuff'..LOL...

    What? High BP is key to longevity? Or did i misunderstand No. 9?

    • @DavidHoffmanFilmmaker
      @DavidHoffmanFilmmaker  5 лет назад

      no. They meant that high blood pressure is the ninth most likely reason for you to live a shorter life. Sorry for the confusion.
      David Hoffman-filmmaker

  • @GregoryTheGr8ster
    @GregoryTheGr8ster 5 лет назад

    Shouldn't #9 be "controlling high blood pressure"? I can't imagine that having high blood pressure promotes health in later years. For my whole life, I have been told the opposite. No, #9 must be "keeping high blood pressure under control". Also, how many of these apply to you? I imagine at least 8 out of the 10.
