I was raised Baptist in the USA, and the US flag was always behind the preacher on the stage. We were "forced" to pledge allegiance to the US and Christian flags at youth events - it was expected of us and many older members might throw a fit if you disrespect the empire's flag more than the "Christian" one. Religion is more cultural than spiritual for then I believe.
