I saw a video by a guy on how it is to od on heroin who actualy knew ilya and used to hang with him. Ilya was alive when this film was released but died shortly after of an heroin overdose.

It’s all relative to the area and time period. This movie is a good representation of dope fiend life in the modern city, Drugstore Cowboy is good for the 80’s junkie life. Candy is best for the romantic aspect of heroin while also showing it’s inevitable toll and downfall
Thanks for uploading. One of the most tragic scenes I've ever watched in a film. Ariel Holmes on the highway crying for help absolutely breaks my heart.
How good was her acting? Quite mind blowing for a non-actor. I admire the Safdie Brothers for using non actors in their movies, spikes up the realism tenfold.
@forestrot666 That doesn't make her acting ability any less impressive. One could even say it makes it _more_ impressive, since she had to put aside the emotional attachment to the moments that were especially true to what happened.
i have not seen this movie. but these are some amazing practical effects. swapping the sleeping actor with the wax dummy to set on fire was brilliant! really pulls you into the scene!! (edit: added words)
Addicts don't do drugs in excess specifically to ruin their own lives and hurt the people around them. They're suffering from something (mental illness, trauma, whatever it is) that, at the time, is worse than an addiction is. So imagine the stress they're under when _that's_ the preferable alternative. Addicts deserve our compassion and they need treatment, not incarceration that only traumatizes them further.
@@kingayy9267 Yeah I get you and I know all this, but also they are really manipulative, and they manipulate you into just accepting them, and letting them continue this lifestyle. Even if they are seemingly understand what they are doing, after you are seem to let them go and don't take them seriously and start to communicate with them normally, they just sneak back to the self destruct again and again. Sad but sometimes you have to actually force them and apply force, otherwise they just can't get out of this self destruct catch 22 circle. And ofc need professional help, psychology etc and rehab and all.

I'm so confused tho... the movie was made before ilya died in real life... there's actually photos of ilya at the movie event ahah im confused as to why he died in the movie and of a fire a whole year before he actually died in real life by drug overdose in central Park? The movie was made in 2014 and released in 2015 and he died in 2015 after the movie was done? Someone explain why they made that scene if he was alive at the time of filming
He burned down their apartment and I believe that’s why they had him die that way in the movie. ‘At 17, she and Ilya (played in the film by Caleb Landry Jones) sold drugs to pay the rent on an apartment in Jersey City. This came to an end when Ilya “decided to get some crack and smoked all our money. That was it for our drug business. And then our apartment burnt down.” Ilya was caught in the fire. “His hands got burned. He had skin grafts. All his hair burned off.’
@@hailmaary4527 No, he died. The producers said it in an interviwe and Arielle Holmes too.Edit: First result on Google. "The film is dedicated to Ilya Leontyev, Holmes' boyfriend in the film (played by Caleb Landry Jones), who died of an overdose in Central Park in April 2015"
