How he would’ve been better than De Bruyne if his coach knew this…

- Better than De Bruyne or Scholes? When it comes to global fame and popularity David Beckham is perhaps the most famous footballer of all time. He is a global superstar and celebrity who pockets millions a year from his various sponsorship deals. Although he is regarded as football's global ‘ambassador’ the truth is that Beckham ruined his chance to become one of football’s best players, choosing the easier road of celebrity. As we explain, Beckham could have been much more than what we see today.
Beckham played in CM for Real Madrid at the initial stage and he failed badly in CM. he was pretty poor playing CM for Man U vs Bayern in champions league final as well. He was crucial in the win against Bayern only for his set piece deliveries and not CM play which was seriously awful that night against Bayern who absolutely dominated and controlled the rhythm of the game.
Being a good passer does not equal to being a good CM. He was fantastic on the right midfield becos not many players in the world have the range to hit a diagonal cross field ball from right to left in an instant to switch play and change the point of attack. that made him really special as well as his crossing from the right which was very difficult to defend.
Playing CM is a role where you need to have ability to control rhythm of the game, have 360 degree awareness, positional sense and where u need to know how to take quick touches, play quick one twos over short distance with your team mates, shield the ball well and sharp awareness of both the opponent and your teammates position to change direction quickly on the half turn when players can come in from 360 degree at any angle while having the discipline to stay in the center of the pitch and not to overrun too much. These was why players like Pirlo, Scholes, Xavi, Buesquet, Makelele, Kante are world class in CM.
These are totally not Beckham's strengths and his touch and technique was not that of a CM. Beckham's best attributes was really in the diagonal long passes, crossing and the work rate (he had the highest stamina in Man U during beep test to run non-stop) to drive up and down the field to cover the distance offensively and defensively on the flank. Hence, he was superb as a RM for his qualities to create danger from the flank.
likewise, people who think Trent Alexander Arnold would be a good CM becos of his passing technique. He is the right back version of Beckham becos he has unique passing range to switch the ball from RB to opposite left flank in an instant.
Moving them to CM takes away the special qualities they possess doing the diagonal switch which is a dangerous weapon to slice through opposing defenses.
The whole United team played bad in 99 + initial stages at Real Madrid he was adapting. His awareness was good enough to play this role. Beckham was never fast so he was always astute tactically. He’s arguable tactically more aware than Gerrard & his game vs Deportivo is evidence
I agree with your Trent point 10000%
@@OnTh3Ball granted that united as a whole played bad in 99, he didn't cover himself in glory either when he played there. Even when playing against the great Juve team with Zidane, Deschamp, Davids in midfield during the semis, Scholes and Keane were not overrun like how it was in the final to the point it was so one-sided. He was just never great in CM when he played there. U can have one off good games when the opposition is not great against Deportivo but u get found out when you play the top teams in the crunch matches. Gerrard was not even a great CM in the 1st place. he played his best football for Liverpool when he was playing on the wing or behind the CF as a second striker as he never had the discipline to stay in the middle as he was a high energy midfielder. That was why they were down 3-0 against Milan in the CL final and Benitez needed to bring in Hamman to pair with Alonso in CM to give the midfield balance and move Gerrard behind the CF. Likewise, for Beckham, he is like Gerrard where he does not have the discipline to stay in the centre of midfield to play as he was so high energy and he always wants to move everywhere and do everything.
Tactically Beckham was good playing as a RM as he understands the role well and he links up well with his fullbacks. Not tactically astute in the middle of the park. U can heard the top CM/coaches that ever play/managed the game like Soueness, Xavi, Guardiola, Cruyff and they will say that CM do not need to run everywhere but stay in the middle to defend the space from a defensive point of view while from attacking point of view, they will be able to distribute easily to the flanks/forwards playing there while making it easier to support teammates to receive the pass staying around the middle of the field. Your top CM are setting the tempo for the team and maintaining possession first.
Great video!
I've started falling in love with the beautiful game around the time Becks moved to RM. The stupid kid I was didn't understand much about it yet and kinda addapted the public perception that he was a poser, more concerned about fashion, fame and money than about football. I guess I had never actually seen him play a full match during his peak. It was long after his active career when I finally realized how exceptional he was as a player, both for club and country. And watching his documentary made me feel ashamed for my prejudice even more, as he also seems to be a good guy who truly loved United and football in general - and still does. We live and learn...
Appreciated. Yep Beckham was world class. He has more Ballon d’Or & Fifa player of the year podium appearances than Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney & Scholes
absolutely ❤
Beckhams knack for tackling would’ve really had a chance to shine in the middle.
He was great defensively & had great energy to cover distance
He played good as a deeper cm for Real Madrid even impressing Zidane in his capability of the role
💯💯Yes
Must underrated footballer ever

keep dreaming. Only United and EPL fans say that BS @@dominiccedits
Beckham Scholes Giggs and Keane would of all won ballon dors in Italy and Spain where they would not of had to defend as much, imagine Giggs in his prime just allowed to attack or Scholes allowed to do the passes like he did in training
Giggs in todays game would be so good
Kjjjajajjsjjsj😂 beckham like pirlo? Man, long passes isnt football. Take good and quickly decisions, avoid rival pressing and defensive positioning is required to play as cm
Beckham played there in his youth days & started a UCL final as an CM. Beckham even played a few games there at Real Madrid & impressed

Meticulous editing
No he would not have been a better CM than De Bruyne. Beckham never had the athleticism or the ball protection, nor the quick foot coordination to get the better of onrushing defenders with fast fleeting dribbles.
Beckham was NOT suited to playing in the middle of the park where he'd have even *_less time_* on the ball. Find me clips of him playing quick one-two touch passes when he's being pressured by multiple players in the way that someone like Scholes regularly had to deal with. And made it look effortless in doing so might I add!
Scholesy is the player your thinking of, not Beckham. He struggled the few times he found himself playing centrally at United. He would be even worse now in the faster pressing, high tempo of today's game.
Beckham was good on the wing because, as with set-pieces, he excelled in areas where he wasn't being challenged. It's one of the reasons why ( I believe ) Fergie didn't consider him World-Class.
He was a great player in his day, he would be considered above average today. No chance he'd have ever been the best English midfielder of all time. If you just compare him to Scholes, the difference in technique is night and day!
Beckham used to have the best fitness record at United by far every season.
Beckham could ghost past a man, e.g. his goal vs Real Madrid.
Whether he would of been class in the middle is subjective & technically we’ll never know but he was able to win a UCL playing there & had a world class performance vs Deportivo
I do believe in 2024, most coaches wouldn’t use Beckham out wide as most teams prefer wide men with pace especially as no one plays a 2 anymore
@@OnTh3Ball Beckham had an exceptional cross, probably the best in the history of the game. I actually think he'd work best as a full-back in today's game, and basically be an improved version of Trent Alexander-Arnold ( who I've never rated ).
I didn't see much of post-United Beckham, but I'd be surprised if he excelled as a CM elsewhere. Even in a slower-paced league such as Ligue 1. He didn't have the spatial awareness of a Scholes, to be able to receive the ball in tight spaces and make use of it. Either with quick improvisational ball manoeuvres to create space or play the ball first time while being pressed.
I do agree though he'd have been a better deep-lying playmaker than Gerrard, who was even less suited to playing in the midfield ( from a technical standpoint ) but had the athleticism to do a job there for many years, before finally being exposed for his lack of spatial awareness in his latter years!
The editing is insane😢😢
Much appreciated, worked really hard on this
