      hager says on their website that the MBN116 (widely used in Germany) has a lifespan of 20000 mechanical switching cycles and can handle 4000 electrical trippings. So the "3" sounded a bit low for me..

      Thank you destroying the wet dream of all electricians:)
      BTW: Such machinations are not uncommon in other areas. See the lighting industry, agreements on service life and predetermined breaking points.
      An of course you are right:) From the B32 5932 data sheet:
      RATED SHORT CIRCUIT CAPACITY ICN
      6000A
      SERVICE SHORT CIRCUIT CAPACITY ICS
      6000A
      When backed up by a BS 1361, 100A fuse, then
      the breaking capacity of the MCB is increased to
      16,000A.
      Energy limiting class: 3

  • @ColinDH12345
    @ColinDH12345 3 года назад +3

    That would be a heck of a business for suppliers if the '3' described the number of trips allowed!
    It's the energy limiting class for I2t which describes short circuit current which needs to be known to assess cable protection during design.
    This is a bit like Artisan Electrics thinking that the little plastic bit at the top of pull cords is an isolator!
    You should know this stuff!

(usually the van floor is empty, i'm not the only guy so don't have to fill the van with power tools like most guys, most of my tools/normal supplies live on the racking or in stackable boxes). But having the relatively emptyish van, I get the weekly orders to pick up from various wholesalers on friday (or monday morning if i wet the bed). By about wed or thurs, looks like a tip. This week's already booked up for lots of stuff so there's about 400 pounds (in weight AND value) of stock in a pile... lol

  • @Marcel_Germann

    The three is the energy limitation class according to EN 60898, or here in Germany the VDE 0641. This defines when the MCB switches off, class 3 means in the MCB switches off in one third of a half period of the sine wave. Class 2 switches off in a half of a half period of a sine wave. Class 1 is no longer available. Class 1 switched off when the sine wave reached its zero point. This is to spare the contacts, because then you won't have any arcing. But in case of a fault that will stress the cables much more.

    • @TheChipmunk2008
      @TheChipmunk2008 3 года назад

      They've been a game changer for us mate... lots of 30's-40's houses round this area. Often they've been hacked about and patched into... often customers decorate, THEN find that the 1940s TRS (tough rubber) wiring is ... yknow, not to standard anymore. So long as we can get under floors... offering them quinetic receivers with standard looking switches (a grid module in a single or x-way grid frame) makes them relax. For what Chris did here, the standard paddles are awesome. We sometimes suggest them for entry/exit doors, because you can operate them with an elbow or shoulder when your hands are dirty or full.
      Done several complete houses with banks of quinetic receivers somewhere accessible. Usually a cabinet under the stairs, easy access to under the floor upstairs, and a cabinet in the loft. The receivers are damned cheap anyway, but when you add on the time saving, the lack of making good, and the number of possible options.... a master switch that turns on/off all the lights, simple sir..., want to turn on your porch light before you get out of the car, there's a key fob remote for that... it becomes a no brainer!

    • @TheChipmunk2008
      @TheChipmunk2008 3 года назад +1

      @@Cjrelectrical Yes what chris said.. the name says it all, the pressing of the switch generates the power needed to activate the transmitter. The receiver of course has power all the time it's needed. To me that's the MAJOR selling point over other brands of wireless switching. No pesky battery replacements, even if they're only every 3 yrs and really easy lol

    • @TheChipmunk2008
      @TheChipmunk2008 3 года назад +1

      Installed to date, several hundred of them dating back to when they were new (5-6 yrs i think?) had Three callbacks. two were my fault. one was siting the grid transmitter in an earthed metal box with a metal faceplate (normal for an electrician but any Radio guy is screaming faraday cage. it only managed 30ft range. Which was amazing given it was in a grounded steel box!). The second was similar but distance was already marginal, and the receiver got sited behind a large stainless steel fridge. D'OH!.
      The third was an actual failure, and was the receiver. TLC replaced it in 10 mins

      Nope. Maximum demand has to take in to account diversity. And that is only at the time the installation is inspected if its occupied to see how the energy might be used. If one occupier uses gas for heating, then subject to an electric car the demand will be generally low. If the occupier has a gas phobia and went for electric heating it may be a higher demand.

    with the spotlights has anyone noticed that saxby have made it near impossible to have more than one entry into there lights to the stage were you have to remove the junction box and replace it with something that can like a robus ones, boils my piss especially if the client buys the light your hands are tied so i always reserve judgement until i look at the nick of the Junction box,

      Yes, saw one today on an EICR, almost exactly the same actually, older JCC lights, same style of connector. All done by the tenant (with landlord's ok, tenant is an IT guy). Beautifully terminated, even inside the cover, wires bent exactly to shape and well terminated. Tenant said being used to dealing with Cat6 which is fussy... makes him neat LOL

      No it doesn’t, Energy-Limiting Classes
      Circuit-breakers to BS EN 60898 of B-type and C-type, having rated current up to and including 63 A and a rated short-circuit capacity of 3 000 A, 4 500 A, 6 000 A and 10 000 A, are classified according to the limits within which their I2t characteristics lie. I2t is a measure of the energy let-through by the circuit-breaker under short-circuit conditions.
      This is denoted by the limiting class , (3) being shown in a box on the ocpd, it helps designers in selecting devices for the required short circuit protection.
      A requirement when you need to know that the K2S2 withstand of the cable can handle the energy let though of the protective device for disconnection times under the stated 0.1 seconds shown in appendix 3 of bs7671, which is more often than not, required to be verified.

    The kitchen socket with the screws that are too long, would have been better to cut them instead of adding gunk to close the gap.

      You obviously don't understand.....the screws are very long because the back box is set too far back in the wall after it had been tiled.....cutting the screws wont help because they will still wobble......

    I don't understand how a cooker isolation switch counts as a 'point'. Does that mean every light switch, shower isolator, immersion heater switch, etc is a point, not just the actual outlet (eg lampholder, socket, CCU)?

    I never understand why wiggling test plugs in sockets to get the correct reading validates a "good reading" the terminals in the socket outlets are obviously tarnished and high in resistance reducing ADS times, why not just change all the poor socket outlets, they cost next to nothing, and provide a better Zs and look nicer lol...crazy.
