In today’s episode, I’m sharing additional thoughts on The Flea Sweater. You'll want to consider some very important modifications to this pattern. Let's talk about it! ☕
GM Taylor I ❤❤❤ your striped sweater… I love stripes so I’m all in … your colours are beautifully put together … go girl can’t wait to see it done !!!😊🥰
Stephen West breaks color rules all the time and is celebrated for it. If anything he’s taught me that you can really do whatever you with color. I love your choices.
I was going to say this very same thing! His color choices may seem questionable, but once you see the finished garment, it's mesmerizing and beautiful
listen as a artist who has tanking color theory classes , RULES are to be BROKE!!!! the colors look great and so fun! i love it, it makes me so happy to see you do somehting new! Contrast is the best
I'm a graphic designer and I'm amused by your assessment of the reaction to the sweater. I'm crazy about the cyan/red/white/brown portion. the pale pink is throwing me, but I think it adds to the overall funkiness. This feels like the kind of color combo that will be coming up soon. Idk if you're similar, but I have a tendency to be drawn to.color combos or specific colors 6-9 months before they become suuuuper popular. Anyway, excited to see this progress!!
Love this! I totally understand your amusement here. In fact, I also think it’s funny that I would assume that reaction, but I just see so much of the chosen color palettes among knitters and it’s all so…coherent. Not that that’s bad (obviously). But it just tends to be predictable. And the color enthusiast in me yearns for something different ALL THE TIME. And the pale pink throws the whole thing off. But I sort of love that. I’m just subverting all the dominant paradigms here. 😏
I love, love, love the color choices you made!!! And the change you did with the neckline by adding the short rows is great! I would love to learn this technique as I don't like the front neckline that close to my neck. I know how to do short rows, I just haven't done them with a neckline.
Your sweater matches the art on the wall behind you, and since you obviously love that, you will love your sweater too, lol! You did the right thing by adding the darker color to tie everything together. Great job! I can't wait to see it finished!
I love you chose to do some stash busting for this sweater! I’m also in awe that you’ve already knit that much, you have both a knitting and book RUclips channel, a yarn company and a family to take care of !! You go Girl! ❤️😄👍📚🧶
I think a wildly-fun-colorful sweater is a great way to utilize one's stash and make something that is truly one of a kind. How fun! I look forward to seeing the results!
Lol my brother asked for a Cliff Huxtable sweater a few weeks ago and when you brought this one up last episode I sent a picture to him as such. So fun to hear you say the same!
Your Huxtable sweater is looking fabulous! Without exaggeration, it is my favorite garment you've worn on this show! Quirky? Yes! But positively suits your personality! Well done. (You should know I have never left a RUclips comment ever before, and I literally paused work to leave you this, as I watched you apologetically describe your reasoning for the color choices.) You nailed it!
This sweater with all of those colors is going to be stunning and will look fabulous on you! I did notice when I looked at the pattern photos that there was no neck shaping and I really appreciate your tips on adding short rows.
I'm weeks behind in watching knitting content, finally catching up with yours, Taylor. I'm a graphic designer and didn't find you flea sweater colours jarring at all. It's fun, playful and works. The white is important, it's brightens up all the other colours. I see the South West influence. I love it.
When I first tried on my most recent sweater, I was so disappointed by that neckline "choking", because I was sure that I'd done the short row shaping correctly... Until I realized I had literally put it on backwards in my rush to try it on. Turns out it fits much better when you put it on correctly!
Oooh I love the intentional move into unique color combinations. I think sometimes when one does that, the object they create becomes their favorite. It’s so relaxing and chilled and it becomes special. I love your educational points as well. Thank you!
Wow! Looks good. The colors go together well. Last episode, the major problem was deciding what colors to use and not to use. Using all 8 colors solved that problem.
Another thing you can do to learn about adding shorts rows is on The Unapologetic Knitter podcast episodes 26 & 43. You had mentioned it in one of your previous podcasts and she is great at explaining adding short rows in different top down sweater styles. Best part is that it is free to watch and learn! Looks like the sweater is so fun to knit!
Your sweater, your colours. Be comfortable and make something you WILL want to wear. I am currently using up a stash of really old(1980’s I think) acrylic/mohair/ wool mix in some ‘old fashioned ‘ shades, for me and I love it. Love your colour map, it’s great and if I really want to make a garment using colours that are not great for my complexion, I don’t put it under my chin I move it down the sweater between, it works ❤
Wow Taylor, colour! I love it! So many knitters on YT use black (?) which you don't even see any stitch patterns on, or grey, beige, white - the 'neutrals'. So boring! And this is so gloriously colourful! I love the colours you've chosen and am really looking forward to seeing what other colours you come up with!
I love how your colors are working together, but I also am a big fan of quirky colors and high contrast. I was so excited after your last video where you talked about this sweater that I started planning a Christmas version of it and bought my yarn that same day.
I love all the color, I would probably swap out a shade here or there but when they're combined in that sweater, they work. I really like the Navy edges on the sweater.
Love the colors. That dark brown really compliments the other colors. Sweater looks great. The color combination is so cool you could stop anytime and complete it with the dark brown and still have that pop factor.
Your enthusiasm is contagious! I actually loved the colors right from the get go and wondered why you presented them with such trepidation. All those color rules are made to be broken and they are all the time. Go for it!
Love your podcasts! The Flea Sweater what a great pattern for using yarn we all have sitting around our homes! Thanks for sharing all your tips and tricks, this makes our knitting projects easier! You are so interesting to listen too! I can just feel your energy and love for knitting! Happy Knitting!
I love your color choice and I think whatever you decide, it will look lovely. I really enjoy your podcast and intend to go back to watch more. Keep on knitting, I am looking forward to seeing what you create.
Love the sweater and the colours! And maybe I'll look for some pics for sweaters from the Cosby show but Bill Cosby is super problematic and I can't look at him without thinking how many women he abused 😐
Same. Bill Cosby is beyond terrible and I can’t imagine finding inspiration from him but we’re all adults and make our own decisions. Tayler’s sweater is cute though 😊❤
Same. I grew up with that show and can't stomach it anymore knowing what he did. Love the sweater, but Bill Cosby is a predator and has been convicted of his crimes.
I think the colors are awesome! Think of colors in nature. All of those colors appear in nature and no one would say that they clash in a garden or a field of wildflowers. Lovely!
Thank you sooooo much for the information about short rows, especially suggesting the Felix pattern for guidelines. I am about to knit my 1st sweater. I’m also using my hand spun yarn…….first time long draw. Ha. Anyway, this short row incorporating method might be needed in the “Step by Step” sweater by Florence Miller that I am considering. I don’t remember short rows in the tutorial (?). So much to consider. Fingers crossed. I’ve been learning a great deal from you. Much appreciated 😊
The vibe of this sweater is, I stole my dad’s sweater and I just want to be cozy. This would look great with a light wash jeans and cowboy boots, with your hair in a bun or pony. Elevated easy ❤
i think the colors are really cute together! and when you were going through what you thought people would think about it on the sweater, i couldnt help but notice the art in the back of your room and all the pinks nad yellows and blues and browns and reds.... theyre very similar and it made me laugh! its gorgeous, and i cant wait to see the finished piece
So happy to see you in brigth colors, it brings out your eyes, and gives you a special glow. Maybe one day I will have your confidence and try a colorfull knit.
Thank you so much. I'm just not one to wear this much color so it's nice to read from so many folks that it's suiting me. Makes for a nice change. I encourage you to give it a try. 😘
I agree with everyone that Stephen West breaks color rules all the time and gets stunning results. I also recall another famous colorwork designer saying if you’ve selected a few colors for a sweater and they don’t quite coordinate, just throw in some more colors and it will all balance out. Looks great to me!
I totally believe that advice..in fact that's what I did here to sort of make sense of the main colors I had in mind. It's really remarkable how it works. 😊
I’m seeing good vibrations! And I can hear the song! 🎶 😅 Love your fearless determination to destash and meet the challenge. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Love this sweater, Tayler! The dark brown really grounds those pops of color and its repeat accentuates and pulls it all together…great work! Doing a color chart first is a must, good planning! I will never knit a sweater without short rows and after knitting Junko Okamoto’s Andy sweater, learned how to put them in the back when you have a structured neckline. Highly recommend that pattern, it came out great, even with my mods. So glad you jumped in the deep end with this and I can’t wait to see it finished! All the best from San Francisco.❤️
Great video on how short rows make all the difference! And I love the color combination you use, it's bold but somehow those colors work all together! I think you will wear this sweater a lot.
It’s going to be awesome, just keep going doing what you are doing! I am a quilter first and I love making scrap quilts. I don’t worry about everything matching because I know everything will work together in the end!
I think you are going to end up with exactly the look you are going for and it’s going to be a fantastic piece in your wardrobe. I think the color choices are excellent. You are going to have a fun cozy sweater that you will reach for time and time again. It’s good to break out of the molds we’ve put ourselves in from time to time.
Oh it's amazing 🎉❤ I absolutely love it, the colours are beautiful together and it's inspired me to make something similar 🤗😍 Looking forward to seeing it when it's finished 😀
Your sweater is absolutely gorgeous! Don't be defensive about your color choices.. it is working up beautifully! Love your channel... hope we get another Ravelry Roulette soon.. it is so fun and unique! Take care!!
I love how brave and bold your colors are. Unapologetic. That's half the beauty. Rust, aqua, mustard, iron -- earthtones. It reminds me a little of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. The best art challenges people ❤❤❤
Thank you so much Hannah. This means a lot to me. Unapologetic is how I'm going into this next decade of my life (wow. deep, I know) and maybe this sweater is a very visual representation of that. I'm listening to Rite of Spring right now (for the first time ever 🤯) as I type this and I'm just LOVING the whole vibe. 😘
Tayler, This sweater is beautiful. You are doing an amazing job. I think your color combination is terrific. Thank you for pointing out the neckline issue. I made my husband a ski sweater a long time ago. The color work was multiple colors and to this day I am so proud of it. the one problem which I did not know at the time was the neckline. It was a crew type and unfortunately was the same front and back. He never really used it because frankly it was not comfortable. It was a bit weird at the neckline. After all these years, I recently learned why. Now I will always make the back of neck with more fabric to accommodate for this. Can't wait to watch for your progress. I would love it, if you would think about making a kit with these colors as you could dye the colors and sell it as a kit. BTW your collar on the screen looks like navy or a dark gray. That also looks quite nice.
Beautiful. I have to admit that I was a little concerned about the brightness of the yellow, last week. However, you are making it work beautifully. Also, that is one of my favourite shades of blue, so I love how that is incorporated. It's wonderful that you are sticking to your guns to using up stash. Thank you, also, for explaining about the neck line. I'm knitting a sweater for the first time in about 30 years, with wool that I purchased about that long ago. While my sweater is a bottom up, pieced sweater, it was useful to hear an explanation about how the neckline works - even though, the technique I will be using will be different. Have an awesome day!
Thank you so much Julia. I wouldn't be lying if I said I wasn't also concerned about the brightness of the yellow, but once I planned it out on graph paper, I saw the vision. And good for you for using your stash yarn in your sweater. I imagine it's going to be beautifully constructed. ❤️
I love the colors of your Flea Sweater and I like your short row mods as well! I think the extra dark at the collar is really making the sweater! When discussing the neckline I think you maybe are meaning a Double or Folded neckline, a rolled neckline is a bit different (typically stockinette that rolls over on itself).
Tayler I LOVE the colors you chose for your Flesh sweater. I've never knit a coloreork sweater, but your combo of colors has me hooked and really piqued my interest! Thanks for sharing the tip about the short rows on this too
Good on you for using colours from your stash rather than buying (or dyeing) more. ❤ That is pretty much how I operate with fabrics in my quilting. Right now I am actually beginning to collect a yarn stash again because I used up most of what I had. This sweater also appeals to me, though more to knit up for several of my grandchildren.
I love your colour combinations, it's vibrant, fun and they flatter you. What a great way to use up your stash! Thanks for the tip on the GSR's, I have the Felix Sweater pattern ( what a great jumper!) and will keep that in mind for any crew neck jumper that doesn't have any short row shaping, great episode xx
In today’s episode, I’m sharing additional thoughts on The Flea Sweater. You'll want to consider some very important modifications to this pattern. Let's talk about it! ☕
Dang! Your hair looking good. What a lucky husband I am! 😍❤👩❤👨
How sweet is this!
He's a keeper !
Awe what a great husband you are !!!

I love the bold choices you made with the colors! Just wait, you're going to get so many compliments whenever you wear that sweater.

I’m in love with these colors all together.
I love the colours! Contrast is really cool. Just keep going, I'm sure you'll love it.
That is some wild and crazy fiesta vibe!
I like the variation of colors in your Flea Sweater. It looks so fun. It will look great during the grey winter days

Thank you Diane! I can't wait to share it with you!
I love the colors!
I love the colors you have so far. It looks great! 😊
It looks FABULOUS
I think I am going to make this
I love your colour combinations, it's vibrant, fun and they flatter you. What a great way to use up your stash! Thanks for the tip on the GSR's, I have the Felix Sweater pattern ( what a great jumper!) and will keep that in mind for any crew neck jumper that doesn't have any short row shaping, great episode xx
