  • I use the Phase One IQ150 Digital Medium Format system for a portrait shoot with Cheyenne, she is no stranger to the channel this is her 3rd time appearing on Guam Photography, we first did a photo session with the Pentax 645Z, and now I'm using the same 50MP chip thats in the Phase One, I comment towards the end of the video how the files from this IQ150 digital back compares to the 645Z.

    James, Excellent Video as always. I think the XF has Better AF The Skin tones are beautiful as is the Model. Thank you for sharing this video on the Phase one System. Dennis

      The 50MP Sony image sensor is CMOS on both Pentax 645Z and this IQ150 back.
      The older 40MP Kodak sensor used for older Pentax 645D was CCD. 645D viewfinder has higher magnification vs 645Z, but still not awesome even ignoring the crop, not good enough to see the focus, and Z is worse.

    Nice photos, interesting camera, kind of like the Hasselblad modular 907X and 50C system. Hopefully make my way to Guam sometime this year.

    How does it compare to the Fuji 100? Do you see a difference in quality that warrants buying the phase?

    Hi James, I wonder if it’s really exactly the same sensor. Phase One seems to advertise it as a 16bit device. I guess that would also explain the jump in dynamic range. Those full body photos near the water scream medium format.

    • @GuamPhotography
      @GuamPhotography  Год назад

      Yes they do, I think its not true 16bit, but really 14bit, and the A/D convertor is like making it 2 bits plus the 14bit, to my eyes, 14bit and 16bit I cant tell a difference, even on the Eizo monitor. Here is some text copied from DP review (RIP), keep in mind the IQ150 is exactly the same as the IQ250, just minus the wifi and warranty: "The IQ250 promises the widest ISO range of any medium format camera system (100-6400), together with up to 14 stops of dynamic range and 14 bit colour depth. It also sports a high-resolution 1.15MP 3.2" touchscreen for live view, playback and changing settings, and has built-in Wi-Fi for connection to an iPad or iPhone." and "Phase One's announcement comes hot on the heels of Hasselblad's statement earlier this week that it will also be making a 50MP CMOS-based model, to be called the H5D-50c. The two presumably share the same sensor, which apparently is made by Sony." Thanks! yes I love the colors and the way medium format looks, so sharp and high Dynamic Range, alot of data to move around, I know it maybe hard to tell on youtube and on Social Media, I hope all is well with you!

      @@GuamPhotography Yes, I check and I see some other sources saying it’s 14bit, so the question is if there is some Phase One secret sauce to explain some of the performance improvements. You are in a good position to test that hypothesis since you tried them all, from Pentax 645Z to Hassy X1D ;)

      @@tadferreira5625 Yes :) I am leaving to Tokyo tomorrow, have three portrait shoots lined up, leaving the Sony behind, only bringing the Phase One, also contacted Phase One of Japan as well, gonna really work this camera system over there, hahahah!

    Nice posing. And very interesting outfits and photos. I like medium format (X2D), however the autofocus of the DF+ seems not very suitable for people photography. The lenses are leaf shutter lenses, aren't they? If yes, it would be interesting to see how these lenses alllow to benefit from the leaf shutter in terms of flash photography. Especially in the hot and bright Guam environment leaf shutter lenses should allow for overpowering the sun with flash very easily.

      Thanks for your comment, yes I am very curious to try out the Phase One XF body, I am going to Tokyo soon in a couple of weeks and will try it out there, will also upload some portrait shoots :) Yes the lenses are leaf shutter the 55mm and 80mm that I have. I dont have the strobes to use, but if I did, I will do a video on it :) Yes the sun does get bright here, and a high flash synch is super important, mabye ill experiment in the future with pro photo strobes.

    is this a cropped MF sensor or full MF sensor?

    • @GuamPhotography
      @GuamPhotography  8 месяцев назад

      Cropped MF sensor, it’s the same Sony sensor used in other camera like the Pentax 645Z or GFX 50S
