At 14:50 it is admitted that if the cholem or vowel pointings were a 'mistake' or 'error' it would have been scratched off or cut out. Not done! And these manuscripts have been checked and checked and checked and checked, ad infinitum. They were left as is. As correct!

The alternative fact guys were basically arguing for you. They kept pointing out that in the Hebrew codex it was written Yehovah 50 times and that the scribes didn't make mistakes! Therefore the scribes correctly wrote Yehovah not once or twice but 50 times! Maybe they wrote Yahweh once but it was a mistake so they tore it out and wrote Yehovah ;) Thanks, Keith, for this great video!

Please show mercy & Grace on those brothers in Messiah debunked in this video. They were obviously (obliviously?) and sincerely defending what they "knew" as fact and truth as it was accessible to them at the time. If they are intellectually and spiritually honest they will change their viewpoints. But, seeing as they have tied their salvation and ministries to the name Yahweh, it may take the Father opening their eyes and ears, softening their necks and hearts to the numerous proofs found in this past year. May YeHoVaH show them Grace in Yeshua's name and authority.

The fact that the full vowels were allowed to remain in the documents where they are found rather than them being destroyed is a strong testimony to their authenticity. Had they been false they would have been destroyed.

The guy was saying that there are never any "mistakes" made , well how can the Aleppo Codex be "similar" to the Leningrad Codex ? If it's "similar" , it's obviously not exactly the same and therefore "mistakes" had to have been made , there are textual variants between these two , obviously , just as there are textual variants in the Dead Sea Scrolls and even all of the New Testament manuscripts

To those doubting and debating... Do what I did (it will require learning Hebrew do do so and mastering vowel point sensitive searching) carry out a search of the entire Leningrad Hebrew Scriptures looking for names beginning with Yah* - You will only find two and note: 1. they are two syllable words and 2. they are non Hebrew names (Deu 2:32, 1 Chr 2:47). Searching for Yeho* and variants provides some 1,300 hits excluding Judah . If some one can provide another name that confirms to the rules of Hebrew grammar and which has numerous other fully pointed Hebrew names in the scriptures based on it, along with supporting other Hebrew literature then I am all ears.

Keith, THANK YOU so much for making this response! Before anyone "digs In" on a pronunciation that is so important, one should always pray to Father: "Dear Father, please show/teach me "YOUR" Truth and NOT what I may currently believe, not even what I hope I find the truth to be, but ONLY YOUR TRUTH". We must take our own self out of the horse race (so to speak). Our own, or our "church's" view or opinions must be set aside, no matter how personally painful that may be. Let's actually mean it when we approach the throne of our God, that we are there to worship and honor in "His" Truth! Yehovah's Blessings

Wish you had presented the grammatical formula for speaking hebrew as the introduction to this video. Consonants have to have vowels and must be pronounced with a vowel every time they appear especially in the middle of the word. The only time consonants do not have a vowel attached or seem silent are when they appear at the end of a word. (I think this is correct but I'm not a Hebrew scholar) That is why YHVH cannot be pronounced Yahweh because the "hey" in the middle of the word has to have a vowel. Just to say that the two point vowel words are wrong, does not give the watcher of this video any reasoning.
Also would have liked you to address the possible reasons that a scribe would have made 50 changes in the vowel points to prove your argument instead of just saying that it was a slip of the right way to say the name. Then walk through each of those scenarios. IOW, if the 50 times that it is 3 vowels and that is the wrong name, then why was there not a correction? But If the 50 times with 3 vowels is the right name, then why the other 7000 times was it written with two vowels and two vowels that show that there is a consonant in the middle of the word without a vowel which violates Hebrew grammar. That consonant must have a vowel to pronounce the word. People who don't speak Hebrew need to follow this reasoning very slowly by those of you who have studied this and have access to the manuscripts.

The timing of your video is almost unreal. I recently watched the video by Yahwehs Restoration Ministry and would have loved to have seen a response to some of their points. This topic of the proper pronunciation of the divine name can be quite confusing as one listens to the evidence being presented. I have listened to Nehemia Gordon speak extensively on this topic and frankly found myself confused as I ping ponged back and forth between the various points of view. But the amount of manuscript evidence that supports Yehovah is now overwhelming. And with no ancient Jewish sources supporting Yahweh it seems impossible that that could be correct. I want to thank you Keith for addressing point by point the various claims that were made in that video. I really hope that those brothers will look at the manuscript evidence and see were the facts point. It would be a big deal for them to change the actual name of their ministry and they also publish a bible with Yahweh in it that would need to be redone. Lets hope they at very least participate in the coming live webinar.

Since nobody today can say for certain exactly what Hebrew sounded like in the time of Adam or Noah before Babel, or in the time of Moses in Egypt where we find Egyptian loanwords in the Biblical text, or in the time of the Judges when the Ephraimites had a slightly different pronunciation of things to other Israelites, or in the time of Jesus when the Jewish language was heavily Aramaicized, I'm not too terribly worried about exact pronunciation of the name as to whether it was Yahweh or Yehowah, although I'm kind of leaning towards the Yehowah version. The argument against the 'W' in Original Hebrew, however, is really a non-argument to anyone who has deeply studied Biblical Hebrew and Ancient Hebrew/Canaanite/Edomite/Aramaic/etc inscriptions and such similar Semitic Languages of the Ancient Near East. Doesn't the principle of Mater Lectionis teach us how certain consonants became vowel-indicators? With W it's easy to see how Waw could be used as long O or U, but could the same be said for V? I dunno. Interesting to think about, though.

I don't understand how anyone, especially Nehemia Gordon who has knowledge of biblical Hebrew, could still believe the name is Yehovah after finding out that it uses the vowels of adonay. Yehovah doesn't mean any thing in Hebrew. True that Hebrew had more verbal stems in ancient times, and some grew obsolete or merged with current verbal stems and Yehovah could be suggested as one of those. But the evidence that Yehovah is a false pronunciation is overwhelming. The absolute strongest evidence that isn't His name, surprisingly isn't that it has the vowels of adonay, is the fact it even appears as Yehovah in the Masoretic text. The scholars didn't want people to know The Name, so why would they just leave it there in plain sight almost 7000 times? In addition, it's a confirmed traditionally fact that in Judaism the name was read as adonay. This is explained in other sacred Jewish texts as well like the Talmud. Also Nehemia Gordon made an argument that Yehovah can't be from adonay because of the /a/ vowel in adonay doesn't carry over to Yehovah. But this is a simple explanation of Hebrew phonetic rules where a non guttural consonant like /y/ can't take what is called a hatef sheva. Hatef means 'hurried' and the sheva is an indistinct vowel sound, what is called an epenthetic in linguistics. Because of the weaker nature of the guttural consonants, they were more amenable to vowel inconsistencies. Due to this, the scribes felt that it was necessary to make explicit the exact quality any 'hurried' vowel under guttural letters. Since /y/ is non guttural, it doesn't need this treatment and was always pronounced the way Hebrew pronounced epenthetics which was a short /a/ like in 'cat'. Because English speakers pronounce epenthetics differently as an /e/ like in the name 'Denise', the yod, or the /y/ in YHWH which again lacked an explicitly expressed vowel quality for the sheva, was interpreted as English speakers would say an indistinct vowel. But the Masoretes pronounced indistinct vowels with much more sophistication. The default being like /a/ in cat. This can be seen in the name Samuel. In Hebrew, under the /s/ there is the 'hurried' vowel I spoke of earlier but the exact quality is not specified because /s/ is non guttural. So the reader, assumed to be endowed with knowledge of reading Hebrew, was expected to know the vowels quality was /a/. If the name Samuel underwent the same transliteration process as YHWH it would be spelled Semuel. But the main reason Samuel was preserved was simply due to the fact Samuel was a common name spoken regularly, unlike YHWH which was not to be uttered.

The Reason that Yemenite Hebrew is easily believable as preserving a more ancient pronunciation is because it was constantly around other Ancient Semitic Language.
Modern Hebrew as spoken in Israel and elsewhere has lost some of the Archaic, guttural sounds of the letters.
The argument that Yemenite Hebrew is older is not invalidated by its having been around Arabic but rather bolstered.
Should I suppose that Ashkenazi or Sephardic Hebrew is more unadulterated by its having been influenced by European Languages?

What if the scribs never made a mistake but they were moved by God's spirit to preserve the pronunciation?
Does anyone know their MOTIVES? Or are both sides making assumptions?
If they were mis-applying the 3rd commandment to mean not to pronounce his name, wouldn't God want to preserve it? Who among even the scribes can possibly check the hand of God?

@@lifegracefaith The main argument in the vid you posted, Cheers, appears to be the qere perpetuum/adonai substitution idea.
This was already disproven in a vid posted almost 2 years prior:
"Information Unleashed - Nehemia Gordon (Open Door Series 13) - NehemiasWall.com"
      Nehemia Gordon
      6-7-2014
      ruclips.net/video/8BrNaj16_WU/видео.html
Nehemia begins to discuss the Qere/Ketiv issue around timestamp 1:08:00 in that vid.
He gives an example of an actual Qere/Ketiv, which shows that the niqqud are never omitted in a real Ketiv (the written text), like it is in the middle hey in YHVH.
He also gives an example of a real Qere Perpetuum, where he shows that in an authentic Qere Perpetuum, the actual Qere (the actual reading) is occasionally inserted into the margin. And he shows actual examples of this--a manuscript excerpt with the qere and another without the qere for the word, showing that it is a real Qere Perpetuum.
This doesn't happen with the YHVH. There is no occasional qere, despite the name appearing about 6,000 times.
Thus, it's quite clear niqqud of adonai being the niqqud for YHVH, by way of qere perpetuum, could not be true. It just doesn't follow any of the qere/ketivs.

Thanks for sharing this Keith, yet a key aspect of this topic is missed ... the use of ketiv-qere and adopted by the Masoretes to show how to pronounce the Name YHWH when reading, adding vowels of Adonai or Elohim as it suits the text, hiding the true pronunciation of the Name. Any manuscripts such us Aleppo and Rabbis who have used this pronunciation are just transmitting that ketiv-qere concept which hides the pronunciation of the Creator's Name.

If you follow the pronunciation of the letters in YHWH according to the (only) hebrew language that moses spoke who initially recorded the name he heard from the Angel of God via the burning bush in his own language. There are no traditional vowels or "V"/"Vav" in Paleo Hebrew making both options invalid. So if you follow the laws of the language "YHWH" is pronounced as "YaHaWaH" only vowel sounds in original Hebrew was "ah" or ["ai" (only in the presence of the letter "ayin" which was more like the (only) accent marker as it changed the pronunciation of the preceding letter) ] That's why there were no vowels in YHWH or any other ancient hebrew word because the vowel "ah" was attached to the letter so anyone who knew the alphabet could sound out the words. The Non hebrew Khazarian Masoretes came in and attempted to decode the language in the 8th and 9th century hundreds of years after the destruction of Jerusalem in the 1st century not understanding how to read words without written vowels due to their Slavic based understanding of language. So they inserted a bunch of accent markers that did not exist in the language to make sense of the scrolls they stole and you are using these inserted fabricated linguistic laws to come to your conclusion in error. Hope you receive this correction in love as I respect you and honor you as my elder and your work in getting closer to our Father. Bless you in your studies and I pray he blesses you with the spirit of understanding to enrich and multiply your studies moving forward

The Hebrew vowel pointing doesn't allow two vowels on the same consonant. Therefore the way it is pointed in your video is not grammatically correct. Most early manuscripts, like the Aleppo Codex don't have a 'holam' vowel over the vaw consonant, just the 'kamats' below it. Note it's also important not to confuse cantillation pointing with vowel pointing.

Actually I found a Jewish bible in one of the meeting places in Jerusalem which said that they took out the Nikuds of the name of God in this version as not to pronounce the name of God by mistake. Sadly I could not take a screenshot as these Jews as many others I was at had some issues with using that on the Sabbath.
Very annoying when you find stuff you want to remember or have, to check later - and then get into these things.
Anyway - it seems there could be an issue with the prefix sound that is put on the name. But as NechEmYah pretty much have clarified with his 16 Jewish witnesses, the name itself is Sheva Cholem Qamets. The full name is found 41 times in the Leningrad codex that iv found - not taking any names with prefixes into account.

I know I'm out of my boundary here...could you respond to this? It goes like this: 24-Hour Day vs 12-Hour Day.... Have you ever looked scholarly at Leviticus 23:27-32? this Sabbath is a 24-Hour Sabbath-evening to evening, but this Sabbath commences with the night season of the 9th day to the light season of 10th day of the 24-hour cycle. Essentially, there are two seasons comprised the Day of Atonement: the Night portion of the 9th Day and light portion of the 10th Day. Therefore, Night and Day fall in 9th and 10th
Day respectively, so a day is 12 hours.

If the vowels of Adonai were given to YHVH, we would always find 3 vowels in YHVH - but that is NOT the case - most of the time only two vowels are given. Also, only one of those two given vowels agrees with the vowels of Adonai. Anyone claiming that the Masoretes gave the vowels of Adonai to YHVH have never studied how the Name was actually treated throughout a Masoerete text. At minute 14 you can see the two vowels given to YHVH in the Aleppo - only the kamatz is the same as in Adonai.

“Jehovah…” (Yehovah) It is widely used in many churches. It is considered by many Christians to be hollowed, and many beautiful hymns also endear it, however, this name “Jehovah” is a concoction of man. Therefore, it is a “mongrel,” a “hybrid,” and it is “fantastic,” a fantasy, and it is “monstrous!” There is something very wrong with this euphonious name Jehovah. Therefore, the name of Jehovah was a name never revealed by the LORD. The facts have only to be known to justify this verdict.
    What are the facts?
Ever since the Babylonian invasion of the Kingdom of Judea, and the enforced diaspora of its noble class in 597 BCE, the Jews have had a strong penchant for hiding the name of the LORD (YHWH) from the Gentiles, thus preventing them from potentially profaning the LORD’s name revealed to Moses (specifically the name of YAH, “HaYAH”, as found in Exodus 3:13-15). YAH is “the name which is above every name.” Readers in the synagogues would inadvertently attempt to pronounce the LORD’s name, as there were no vowels in the Hebrew words within the Hebrew Bible [or known as “The Old Testament”] when coming upon God’s name: YHWH. Later, the Jewish clergy developed the practice, around the 1100s of adding Hebrew vowels created by the Masoretes, to the Tetragrammaton [Gr. word for the four consonant letters of the LORD's name]. The vowels were taken from at least three other Hebrew words, namely, Adonay (meaning Lord, with the vowels of a-o-ai causing the hybrid name YaHoWaiH, or later shortened to YAHWEH), Eloah (meaning God, with the vowels of e-o-a causing YeHoWaH later Jehovah or Yehovah), and Elohim (meaning Gods, with the vowels of e-o-i causing YeHoWiH, as shown in Strong’s Dictionary of Bible Words # 3069). These hybrid names were never meant to form any legitimate name for the LORD but were placed there to remind the readers in the synagogues to say, “Adonay” instead of attempting to pronounce the LORD’s actual name.
How was this euphonious name, Jehovah, propagated?
Later in Medieval times, the Roman Catholic Church was known to raid Jewish synagogues, take their gold, and the Hebrew Scriptures [the Old Testament], and persecute Jews. Raymondus Martini was a 13th century Dominican friar and theologian. He is remembered for his book called “Pugio Fidei” (in the year 1270 CE). Finding the absconded Hebrew Scriptures in the Dominican Library, and believing he had discovered the name of God, he used the name Iehovah (or Iehova) in his book not understanding that these vowels were not original to the LORD’s actual name. The name and pronunciation of “Jehovah,” (and also the name Jesus unknown until the 17th century) were essentially unknown in the years before 1520 CE, when introduced and propagated by Peter, Galatinus (1450-1540), he held the office of penitentiary under pope Leo X. His chief work De Arcanis Catholicae Veritatis, a book, written at the request of the pope, the emperor, and other dignitaries, in the year 1516 CE, as he also used the name Iehovah in his book. The name Iehovah was altered with the addition of the letter J, which was a recent addition to the English alphabet in the 17th century. Galatinus also did not know of the Jewish practice of adding vowels from an entirely different word. He did not know that the vowels found around the Tetragrammaton YeHoWaH were from the Hebrew word Eloah, and if he did, he did not care.
Noted Bible scholar J. B. Rotherham, essentially stated, “To give YHWH (Latin: IHVH and later JHVH) the vowels of the word (ELOAH) to remind the Jewish reader to say, ‘Adonay,’ and to be pronounced by the Christians, ‘Jehovah,’ is about as hybrid a combination as it would be to spell the name of Germany with the vowels of Portugal-viz., Gormuna” (The Emphasized Bible, J. B. Rotherham, Kregel Publication, 1994, Pp. 24-25). Jehovah in its present hybrid form has only existed since the 17th century. Fact: The LORD’s essential name is YAH, and Bible scholars have acknowledged YAHWEH (see Strong’s #3050), as in “Praise YAH,” Hebrew: “Halleluyah!” The English “Hallelujah” is a misnomer. YAH is “the name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:9), and YAHSHUA is the only name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and this name is to be known among every language, and tongue, as the essential revealed name of the LORD according to the Gospel (Philippians 2:11), YAH, as in HaYAH (the I AM). The Savior identified His name as “I AM” (YAH, see John 8:58). The prophet Isaiah identified the name of salvation as YAH (Isaiah 12:2 NKJV). And “shua” means “my help”, as in “my salvation.” To reject the revealed name of YAHSHUA, which was given by the angel (Matthew 1:21) is to stand condemned (John 3:18). YAHSHUA is shortened from the name YAHOSHUA, which is commonly spelled Yehoshua largely due to the Jewish practice of hiding the name YAH, by adding vowels to YHWH, the Tetragrammaton, from the Hebrew vowels of Eloah, which caused the false Yeh, as a result, scholars would consider YAHOSHUA a philological impossibility, however, they are mistaken.
What does the name Jehovah mean in Hebrew?
Je-hovah, “hovah” in Hebrew means, “Ruin, Mischief, and Calamity” (see Strong’s #1942, #1943). The Jewish Encyclopedia, states, under the name “Jehovah,” “This name is commonly represented in modern translations by the form Jehovah, which, however, is a philological impossibility” (p. 160). The Jehovah’s Witnesses admittedly make a similar reference that the name Jehovah is inferior, in their book: Let Your Name Be Sanctified (p. 16). Undoubtedly, the name Jehovah is not the revealed name of the LORD! Many Christian clergy know the truth that the name Jehovah is bogus. Still, due to their tradition, or the fact that this name erroneously appears in the King James Version of the Bible, they hold to this euphonious name for the sake of their tradition, which makes void the revelation of God (Mark 7:6-7). The Lord has a warning for them, “And now, O priests (pastors and teachers), this commandment is for you. If you will not hear, and if you will not take it to heart, to give glory to My name,” says the LORD of hosts, “I will send a curse upon you, Yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart” (Malachi 2:1-2). Satan is deceiving the whole world (Revelation 12:9). Despite being told the truth of the one name of salvation, YAHSHUA, they will hold to the name Jesus and Jehovah, despite never having been revealed by the LORD. Many will reject the name YAHSHUA leaving only a few, and being of the many despite the admonishment: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). The name Jesus was never revealed by the LORD, or an angel of the Lord, and history proves this, as eminent historian Ernest Renan acknowledged that the Savior was never in His lifetime called “Jesus” (The Life of Jesus, p. 90). The name Jesus, in its present form, has only existed since the 17th century.
