Well in the show she lied to him about an apartment she got in the city because he didn’t want to sell the house. He caught her and that’s what ended it. She broke his trust on a monumental level and he was done. He wasn’t trying to get her to do anything else at that point.

She walks away because she knows that she's in the wrong and that Doug clearly didn't want to see her in that moment. He had been outside by the dumpsters for nearly the entire episode purposely to be away from Carrie.
He still proved his point. She never gave no effort in the relationship she did not even try to save the marriage she just walked away after all those years
Doesn't matter what she thought...she was looking for the bigger better deal. Dragging along Doug until she could leave him again. Hated Carrie at the end
Wow, Kevin James really delivered in this scene! Doug had some scenes when things got serious throughout the series but nothing like this... this is not "sitcom upset", it is dark.
People forget… things got REALLY deep and passive aggressive between these two the last couple of seasons. I appreciated it, it showed how a married couple really grows resentment towards one another
Through most of the episodes, it was one of those stories that made you wonder how it lasted as long as it did... she never ever seemed to be happy with anything he did.
She wasn't happy. Worse she thought she had a right to be happy. But all those flash backs before they even met show she was incapable. Of course she blamed everyone else.

I loved how the show ended. It goes on as if there's another episode coming up next and then it goes to the pilot again for another full circle of hilariousness. Same thing with how George Lopez ended up. You just feel like it'll never end.
Boyyyy, we can all learn from Doug. We deserve to be with someone who respects us and make sacrifices as much as we do for them. *Im saying this outside of the context of the entire show and what they been through. Meanwhile, I’m speaking only for this scene alone.*
The sad part is that Carrie gave up waaay before Doug did. If she truly cared about him, she would've tried to change his mind and work it out. All throughout their marriage, Carrie always had a comeback for anything Doug said or did. This time she didn't.
I remember when this episode aired an their break up had finally had happened. When the show first started Carrie was very sweet but as time went on she got more mean and abusive and never really accepted Doug for who he was. The way I see it is Carries mother passing away young forced Carrie to be an adult much sooner than she needed to be and Doug was always sheltered by his parents and had an easy life therefore their life experiences just didn’t click. I believe most of Carrie’s anger also came from Arthur’s shortcomings as a father to her growing up and I believe the reason she wanted such a lavish lifestyle was to make her forget her youth
Carries can be mean but re-watching the show now i realize how awful Doug was! He constantly lied to her and did whatever he could to get out of doing things she wanted to do. He was incredibly sexist, childish and had no type of aspirations or goals. All of that would probably make me mean and resentful too lol.
@@megansarat Doug was hilarious but yeah I guess that’s sorta true lol but I Carrie didn’t really do much for herself either being just a secretary and she thought it was okay to spend half their income on expensive clothes for her job but whenever Doug made a purchase she would complain about wasting money and call him an idiot. Arthur was always wreaking some kind of havoc as well (love Arthur though) and I feel Carrie let it slide a lot which made Doug act out more as well. Just a good example of a couple who aren’t fit for each other at all
One thing I never understood about Carrie is that she always acted like she and Doug had a terrible life. She had a two story house, a good job and a husband who loved her. Granted Doug did a lot of stupid things but I never for once doubted that he loved her and wanted her to be happy. But Carrie nother was ever enough, she complains about never having any money yet spends a fortune on clothes, when she saw others happy, and wanted everyone else to be miserable. She felt like she was OWED the luxurious life, the fancy clothes, the apartment in Manhattan. So ungrateful for what she had I would kill for a house like that! And look how fast she was willing to throw it away.
Having Carrie's life would be a dream come true! Doug was a wonderful husband! Some people search for a relationship like that their whole lives and never get it! He had the ambition and drive to succeed of a sloth. She was always talking about living a Manhattan lifestyle but didn’t have the education to do that. They were very different people.
Correct. WTF were they doing together? It wasn't the 1950s. They both had other more sensible options. They agreed about practically nothing. It wasn't as if they even complemented each other.

He carried the relationship really loving her, and she just loved to fight. She loved always thinking she was top dog, thinking she was always right. Ya... If she really loved him, he would be a satisfied and content man and there would be no complaints. (define: content: in a state of peaceful happiness)
Some Women (and Men) have relationships knowing if a bigger better deal (BBD) was available they would leave... this show shows this perfectly in the end. He married her, provided for her, took in her father and dealt with her condescending attitude. They couldn't even have children (birth control or another reason?) without some sort of drama coming out of it... so adoption was on the table for a while, but never followed through. @@seasons365 You're missing the point, she had a backup plan while married and walked away from the marriage without a fight. If you think that is ok, you will probably end up old and alone.
Doug and Carrie may have truly loved each other, but that's different than actually being "in love" with a person. They weren't truly compatible. They were never on the same page mentally, emotionally, or personally... they wanted different things out of life.
I was in a 10 year relationship like this where the other never took a leap of faith and constantly made me feel like I was wrong. It took my a long time to leave, and I don’t regret it. Hurt does not fix itself. You either start hurting the other person in return or hurt yourself more by being silent, neither of which is fair to you nor your partner.
I love this show but the good thing about the ending was their talk on the plane when they got back together. Because as he said, she was always pulling away from him. And I think it’s the driving force by her always yelling. It wasn’t so much that she didn’t love him, they were just different people.
Leah does such a good job here. When Doug says “I guess I am” saying that they are over. You can tell her heart drops and breaks at the moment. This is the most serious Doug has been and she felt that.
where did she break? i saw sadness on doug's face. i saw acceptance and already moved on in carrie's. she didnt even try to fight for him. and he was right, she only wanted him back for the baby, once she had the baby she was gonna divorce and go to her appartment in manhatten. so exactly, where did she break?
An indication that a relation is well and truly over is when one of the party doesn't say anything just walks away. Carie here had mentally moved on from Doug a long before this final act.👍
They didn't. This was the very last episode. She found out her eggs had gone off so she wasn't having a baby then her entire pathetic world crashed in on her. Of course she blamed Doug. The bitch. In the last five minutes they adopted a baby from China and she magically fell pregnant. It was the most softcock final episode since Melrose place. Pathetic doesn't cover it
The series ends one year later: Doug and Carrie are in their living room, busy with a toddler and a newborn baby. Arthur comes in and says something like "it didn't work out". Seems like he broke up with Veronica and returns to his basement, ready to live there again.
My wife did exactly the same thing, whenever it came time to work or fight for our marriage she would always say nothing or walk away, if you love something you fight for it no matter how pointless it seems, if you just give up at the first speed bump it can Never really have meant anything.

I love The King if Queens, but, I hate when shows force a child onto the characters just to add something to the plot. I especially hate it when the writers do it at the end of a series. And for some reason it's usually an adopted child.
I think it makes sense though, while the show ran it would have changed the dynamic and we would have anyhow seen the baby(doll) only from behind or someone saying it’s sleeping or something like that. But once the show ended it was the necessary development for the couple! I loved the last episode! Married couples usually want kids so it’s not forcing anything on them, it’s the logically next step!
Well i consider it good that it happened at the end of the series so we didn't have to endure an annoying kid. But I agree, not every show needs a kid but it seems to be a necessity for some.
I think they used him for blame to avoid seeing that they aren’t great together because Carrie was mean to him constantly and Doug was no saint he let her be mean because he didn’t want to deal with his own hardships
Adopting a baby, especially from China, seemed very out of character. Doug and Carrie talked about having a baby in previous seasons but adoption was never considered or even mentioned. And then, boom, suddenly in the finale it says they're on the list of an adoption agency? Where did that come from lol
@@WharfRat44 Yes, it's the show's finale which consists of two episodes and this is the first of the two. I like Leah Remini but Carrie was so awful, she would scream/yell/hit Doug over anything, but he finds out about this and (calmly) confronts her and she's just oh that, pfft☠
He wasn’t exactly a fantastic husband. He was obnoxious, immature, irresponsible and an underachiever. Any person would become frustrated being married to a person like that. He consistently lied to Carrie in every episode. The 90’s and early 2000’s were the decades for uncomfortable sitcoms. Roseanne, Curb, Everybody Loves Raymond and Seinfeld were fantastic because the characters weren’t safely sanitized to avoid offending some viewers, like they are today.
This part of the episode broke my heart. Every marriage has it problem and I remember watching this when I was a teenager in high school. I loved this show and I loved doug and carrie together for some reason. To see this part of the episode blow me away.💯😥
He wanted a sign of faith. He was open to his emotions. What did she do? Turn her back on him. This ending is the best possible ending for Doug. She was and will always be mean.
I can relate. I heard something like this 9 years ago and she walked away. I've been in freefall ever since. If you don't care about relationship it's easy to say it's over and time to move on. When you invest your heart in something you've taken a leap of faith and often the other party didn't and they can walk away when things get difficult. All the guilt in the world later can ever atone for the heart you destroyed. We only get one life. Be damned sure you are ready and are taking that leap of faith. Otherwise, it's just a series fo one night stands that eventually get old.
Get past it, my dude. It stings when you're the one getting walked away from, but it eventually doesn't matter. You'd get tired of each other. I have friends who have been married a LONG TIME. And the best they can do is tolerate each other.
You can't really trust anybody anyway. It's better to just go at it alone, especially if you're an average joe. I mean, how the hell are you supposed to have a fun and fulfilling relationship if you're making an average salary? What's the point of it if you're just worried about money every second of every day. Oh I can't go there, oh I can't buy that. And I'm not even talking about raising a family. I mean that is an absolute pipe dream. If given a choice, I'd much rather struggle by myself than with somebody by my side. And maybe you can get to a point where you're making good money but that's going to take so much effort, time and sacrifice that you don't even have time for anybody else.
Don’t allow someone to permanently break your heart. Let it finally heal, sir. Your heart deserves another chance to feel and be free and love again! You owe it to yourself and your heart. It may take a lot of work but you should at least try. 🤎
I just did a similar thing in my relationship...hard thing to do but if you have giving everything and I mean all...moved far from home , changed occupation, lost friends & family on the big move , had to sell off just about all your good stuff you actually needed or used , you know YOUR stuff but hers stayed in the move? His speech towards the end was like the one I had to give on that final day after over 28 years ? Killed me ....still.
I feel like the most profound serious moments come from sitcoms. They are a slice of life. Life is funny sometimes, but those serious moments make you evaluate where you stand and where you're going in life.
I really liked what Doug said about marriage. It's true. It's very hard to keep a marriage going I know. I've been married 32 years and it's not always been easy but (at this moment) I'm glad I did.
I never really understood how she kept the apartment in the city while Doug didn't know until spence told him. How would you not know your wife is living somewhere else?
It's criminal how Kevin james was always looked past by The Academy. He likes to do the real people's characters, which doesn't leave much room for range. However, when he is allowed to, I think he proves himself to be a great actor.
Literally! Rewrite: "Doug..Doug ar-are you being serious right now? .....oh my god you are!" *cups hand over mouth shocked, eyes blink teary in disbelief, then she hastily exits stage left*
Well she’s got a great job and an apartment to move on to. And a baby if she chooses to go forward without him. Pretty bright future for her without him.
In the very least. Realistically there would be more words between a husband and wife over a marriage. Sitcoms cut the tension with occasional jokes or just cut it short altogether, but the very least they could have had her walk out in some glimpse of shock or confusion.

Well in the show she lied to him about an apartment she got in the city because he didn’t want to sell the house. He caught her and that’s what ended it. She broke his trust on a monumental level and he was done. He wasn’t trying to get her to do anything else at that point.

I think people place too much emphasis on romantic relationships in general. There's just too much effort and energy that goes into it. Arthur was always wreaking some kind of havoc as well (love Arthur though) and I feel Carrie let it slide a lot which made Doug act out more as well. Just a good example of a couple who aren’t fit for each other at all
What do you mean her father's shortcoming?
One thing I never understood about Carrie is that she always acted like she and Doug had a terrible life. She had a two story house, a good job and a husband who loved her. Granted Doug did a lot of stupid things but I never for once doubted that he loved her and wanted her to be happy. But Carrie nother was ever enough, she complains about never having any money yet spends a fortune on clothes, when she saw others happy, and wanted everyone else to be miserable. @frankp7270 Certainly better than your opinion.
never watched an episode and glad I never did, dribble trash
I miss this show, used to watch it literally all day. It was a tv show but it was based off real life emotions and situations
Is it because, she's doing a game show now ?
I guess after Arthur left the marriage is falling a part
I think they used him for blame to avoid seeing that they aren’t great together because Carrie was mean to him constantly and Doug was no saint he let her be mean because he didn’t want to deal with his own hardships
@@pandulce4447 or he was friggin clueless and couldn't care less as long as he was gettin some tail. Plus she was quite plain.
Those were the times, and this was definatly one of the best shows!
I mean this whole show in general was 2 people who shouldn't be together but this scene was just downright brrrrr
Adopting a baby, especially from China, seemed very out of character. Doug and Carrie talked about having a baby in previous seasons but adoption was never considered or even mentioned. And then, boom, suddenly in the finale it says they're on the list of an adoption agency? Where did that come from lol
I guess we can infer that after carrie found out she couldn't have kids they made the decision off screen
This was the season finale?
@@WharfRat44 Yes, it's the show's finale which consists of two episodes and this is the first of the two. After that Carrie wants to fly to China alone to adopt the baby, Doug travels after her, they reconcile on the plane. In China Carrie finds out she is pregnant and so they end up having 2 babies. Arthur also returns.
It's called a script. It's fake. All of it. None of this sitcom was real. All made up. As in there is no more now it's fine.
@@iamyourgod530 Hmm…you know, I’m fairly certain everyone is very aware of this. In fact, having a discussion and exchanging opinions and theories about a shared interest (such as a TV show) is actually quite common here. You probably misunderstood this behavior. It’s okay. Whoosh happens…
C I yes....yes she did. He was fat, lazy with no ambition. That was the basis of the show. What are you confused about?
In the event of a break-up, Carrie is the one who would have options, so this doesn't quite ring true...
@@Pens4Life85 No.
Doug was a joke. Give her a break.
I never knew he left her. Made my day seeing Doug leave her
I loved this show, these two might have loved each other, but they weren't the most compatible, I could totally see them breaking up.
Damn the fact that she didn't even say anything and just walked away was cold
That was my ex wife, that's when I knew to move on.

i think carrie was in shock.
“I married you what do you call that” the fact that she can say that WITHOUT the slightest clue how demeaning and hateful that sounds…
No necessarily marrying anyone and starting a future with them is a risk. Remember 85% of marriage end in divorce.
"hitting the jackpot" was an exquisite response, though

That is what marriage is. You take a leap of faith.

He gave up his driving job but became a zookeeper, mall security guard, president, and then a race car driver manager.
This part of the episode broke my heart. Every marriage has it problem and I remember watching this when I was a teenager in high school. I loved this show and I loved doug and carrie together for some reason. To see this part of the episode blow me away.💯😥
I would watch this and everybody loves raymond after school still looking for a debra or carrie 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What's yer point? That you stink at looking? Maybe it's you, not her?
Same
Good god why?
Both shows were a staple in my

Had a lot of good laughs on this show.
Well said.
go to therapy please
How she walked away without any words says all you need to know in any relationship.
Going back to the guy she keeps in that apartment she didn't get rid of.
most women are selfish and heartless this way. they prioritize security and quality of life. men prioritize loyalty and respect.
‘Fat, mean, & naked…” damn so true! Lol
Even during a tense breakup there's still so much comic relief lol
I really liked what Doug said about marriage. It's true. It's very hard to keep a marriage going I know. I've been married 32 years and it's not always been easy but (at this moment) I'm glad I did.
I remember watching this show every day after school on a big chunky TV. I loved this show. I need to rewatch it, for the nostalgia.
Couldn't pay me enough to break up with Leah, even in a show

One of the best shows to me tbh. Never gets old.
Only time Doug truly stood up for himself with his abusive wife. Good man.
Well, Carrie certainly didn’t object much.
I was like “wtf?!”
