I love this song, and this superb live version shows that Charlie and her band can really cut it live. Why isn't she a massive star? If there was any justice in the world, she would be - unfortunately, we all know that there isn't.
Just great, been listening to here for years...can't figure out why she was not given more material to be as successful and enduring as this great song. Btw , am listening in October2019.
She would've been a contender with her voice and the bands talent. The music was making that shift toward the harder eighties rock. Who knows? But, yes she was great.
I was able to meet music of first love in April 2013. Japanese title is "request of tears". I did not remember the title of the only Japanese. I looked hard, but could not find. This is because the "request of Tears" had become Checkers of Japanese from 1984. However, that "charlie dore" was singing in "Pilot of the airwaves" was understand the "request of tears" over 30 years I am. I do not release absolutely another.
Well observed! Excellent performance. The well-known recording is great too though you can hear a heavy hand on the fader and it's been chopped and changed quite a bit. Here, more of the musicality shines through. 2:57 !
Unfortunately the lyrics are an anachronism. The chance of you hearing an actual LIVE jock on the radio who has been empowered to play requests is slim and none. That part of the business has became practically extinct by the turn of the century. That's when I got out the radio business. It's largely voice tracked and the DJ cannot deviate a single song off of the playlist lest he lose his job. It's a byegone era in most radio markets.
When I was going through college working at a radio station we played reel to reels. We did have two turntables that never got used. At night I would sneak in some album cuts and requests if I had it. I wound up having the number one show from the Arbitron rankings for my time slot. Goes to show how much management knew.
I remember this song new in 1979. She had such a wonderful singing voice.
Sounds just as good live as does the record. Good song.....
Memories of much better times gone by .
What a great song there Charlie Dore.

Just look at how ,relatively, unrecognised Ralph McTell remains, though still recording and touring.
Every version of this song by Charlie Dore is so unique. I love her style, her music, and her legacy.
really love listening to this song... it takes me back in time... great listening ... thank you...❤
Imagine if Charlie Dore and Rickee Lee Jones had performed TOGETHER in 1979?!😊😁🤩😘How legendary would that have been!!!
There's still time! I know a guy. See what we can do.
She's still making great music. In the folk realm, and I like it!

I'm listening in October 2023...just like I've been doing since 1977.

Great
anyone know the year?
1979 or 1980.

Yep....but it was a cool time for those of us who remember it!
Cheers.

That's a shame, man.
Too sad, unfortunately
The lyrics are not an anachronism if they were appropriate to the time in which they were written.
