36:40 This section of info was very helpful, I haven't seen anyone cover one of these 12tb drives and explain really what it will take to play everything. Usually they brush over it like "it wasn't too bad to set up, shouldn't be an issue." but based on what I'm hearing it most certainly would present something of an issue for plenty of people. Most people that know how to obtain all these files and emulators probably won't be as interested in these devices because they could literally do it themselves, I on the other hand feel like people are talking a different language sometimes when it comes to explaining things about putting different file types and where to put them. It's been over 20 years since I last messed around with emulation and at the time it was a novelty and PS2 wasn't even 1 year old yet. Thank You for making these videos and being thorough with the information. 😄👍

@@mike_t_007 I just got the drive last week. I bought a second 12tb drive and made a clone of it. That way I cant screw the original. The interfaces are great. I hate to say it but I really really really like this setup It gives basically you're getting your same game list for off front ends but you're getting the front end of choice that you like the best. And for me who has all three setups anyway and I use this different systems on different front ends Man this is a dream for me

I just received mine two days ago, and I have the previous 12tb drive as well. I thought I'd share some thoughts that might answer some questions: 1. Overall, yes, this is miles above the previous 12tb drive, for some reasons that I'll mention in a sec. I do get someone's comment that it's a bit of a headache dipping and diving around all the setups to find what you want, but compared to the general "wow" of it, it's a small frustration. 2. And this is the main reason I gambled and got this: the possibility that it would work better. On the last 12tb drive, not only would a lot of games give error messages or not run, my biggest complaint was that Xbox 360 games, every single one, had a weird stutter to them. They'd go for a sec, slow to a crawl for a sec, go for a sec, etc. There were tons of great games that were just unplayable. After trying every remedy that the internet and RUclips had to offer, I just chalked it up to my not having a good enough graphics card (AMD Ryzen 7735) for 360 games. BUT, my friends, I'm here to tell you that Xbox 360 (the games I've tried so far, anyway) runs like butter on this bad boy. It's fantastic. Same (for the most part) for PS3, which, on the previous build, would either not run, give weird visuals because of "compiling shaders" issues, or would not give me any visuals at all, just sound. Couldn't be happier with this improvement. 3. This is the second reason I got this one: more games in several key collections on this build. Many more, in some cases. Previous Nintendo Switch count: 62. New count: 203! Previous PS3 count: 23. New count: 172! 4. The build just runs better overall than the last one. I'm not a huge tech-head when it comes to these, but I'm wondering if the organization, with the different front ends and section choices (like giving Teknoparrot it's own section, for instance), helps the stability. Also, one of the big problems with just having Hyperspin on the previous drive was that not everything runs smoothly or has adjustments to emulators and controls that work on Hyperspin. On this build, I've seen several cases where a game wouldn't work from one frontend, but would work perfectly from another. If you only have one frontend to work with, you might be stuck with a game that just won't play. So far, I've had very few games that just won't run. A FEW have glitches or freezes that have made them unplayable, but there are very few games so far (the new TMNT game, Shredders Revenge, is unfortunately one of these) that just won't run or gives an error message like the last drive. But, it's early in my time with it. It's Friday, and I'll give the system a more thorough look this weekend. 5. It looks like several games, mostly PC games, that were on the last one got omitted, I guess to make room for more late-generation games for PS3 and such. As RetroGamingGuy says in the video, Playnite has 45 games, but the selection won't really blow you away. On the last build, there were some really great PC game options (I got obsessed with a Cobra Kai game), so that's a shame. Ditto if you are looking for a bunch of MS-DOS games. They're not trying to pass off a bunch of PC games as PS4 games this time, thank goodness, but it sucks that these games aren't even here at all. I think that covers my main impressions. I'm thrilled with this new one so far. I might do an update here after this weekend.
Yes thank you for the info! I have been weighing them for a while..still kinda am lol. Where did you buy? Also I did notice major dip in original xbox titles: old had 627, this new one only 62. I have watched this whole video and compared this device to the previous 12TB Kinhank one and discovered that for most of the consoles, this one has a few more games than the previous 12TB drive, but for several of them, they're the same amount as this one. It looks like this one is overall better tho. I can't speak on performance of the games and malware, but it seems like this is the better overall option.

It doesnt seem like they added the Xbox series x/ one or ps4/5 games to the 5-1 12TB tho? I just got mine and i don't see as many collections in the hyperspin area.
@@EVADE710 I got mine recently too but I haven't installed it yet were you able to install yours without disabling your antivirus and is it running well? Also I think they put the PS4/ PS5 as well as Xbox series games in the PC folder
Would it be practical to use this drive to build a much reduced custom ssd from? That would make it an offline backup. Ever thought about a series of shorts here where you show how to setup each of these subsystems that you know how to setup controls and other gotchas for...then people could pick and choose what they need. Great content for those of us building a cab. THANKS!
Also the issue with putting your own collection together is finding games especially with the crackdown with Sega and Nintendo is finding games. Since they cracked down recently finding games is very difficult, i.e Vimms lost all their Nintendo and alot of others....
Man that Wrestle Mania modded 1up is sweet. Have you tried installing the HDD in your gaming PC to get a bit more speed out of it? I would think direct connection to SATA vs USB could improve loading times even with the HDD being the bottleneck.
If someone wouldn't mind, I have some questions: 1. Can this console be plugged straight into a TV or Projector and work? 2. If so, do I use the USB or should I get some kind of adapter or something? 3. Does this console contain the first three "Uncharted" games? 4. If this cannot be used when plugged into a TV/projector, could I plug it into my steam deck docking station and run it to my TV or Projector from my steam deck? -Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my questions!!!
Ordered mine and tested it out a bit. Everything works great except I was surprised to find it was missing a few obvious classics like FFX, FFXII, and FFXIII. :( In terms of games older than that though, it's pretty robust. I still want more japan exclusive Saturn and PSX games. I guess that's too obscure for 12tb.
Still prefer the original 12tb from Kinhank with the straight Hyperspin/Rocketlauncher set up. For me, there are too many menus to dip in and out of here. Great review, enjoyed it!
thanks for the security check/info ... if anyone is really concerned ... dont connect the computer to the network at all or isolate it with virtual networks
IMO gaming is all about fun and not having a few modern systems doesn't hurt at all, nothing is lost for me at least. I honestly have more fun playing the 70's, 80's, and 90's video games, what an amazing collection. Considering just over a year ago a build of this magnitude would of easily cost over $600
Well said and I agree. I just have to mention everything as many don't share our opinions on the more modern offerings. I love the older stuff so much more personally and if I get lucky with some modern titles that interest me I regard it as more of a bonus.
I like your joystick tattoo, the diamond underneath it, is that the diamond that appears in Mr. Do for a free game? It looks cool. I'm not going to buy it, I have the console x3 and since I'm only interested in 8bit and 16 bit which play fine, it wouldn't be worth it for me. Great video thanks for posting!
I don't know exactly what you're asking, but it can't connect directly to a TV you have to connect it to a PC then you can connect to a TV you will need a good PC with a good graphics card to run the newer systems and games, like switch, Xbox360 you can run older systems like PS2, Gamecube, and older with a good mini PC.
@retro gaming guy did u buy the drive with their optional gamesir t3 controller or did you use your own? Keen to know if they're decent or if you're better off using an original xbox core/console controller eg 🤔👍🏻 great feature
I’m guessing there’s no way to hook this up to a TV…? I don’t want to sit at my desk & chair to play *hours* worth of games. It looks great! If it is only for a PC, what would you say is closest to this in a TV console?
I was looking at this too but the ones that don't require a PC are a lot smaller and seem to cost a bit more. Personally what I did was order this drive from AliExcpress for $188 and ordered a refurbished PC from Amazon for a little over $100 that I will dedicate to emulation. I can then hook this PC up to my TV with an HDMI cable. So for about $300 it will be better than one of those stand alone systems.
Great Video!! What specs for a PC would you recommend that would handle this 12TB HDD so everyone can get the most out of it. Want a PC that can handle anything on this HDD. Thanks
I bought this after seeing your review. It just arrived today and I have to ask--is there somewhere that lists the things that will show up as a flag on your computer's anti-virus protection software that you can allow and the ones you need to watch out for that you would not want to go through? Any help is appreciated.
yeah a lot of times stuff will get flagged if its unrecognized. Emulation uses a lot of software that is not from your typical companies like Microsoft for example so it gets flagged as potentially harmful. I did not find anything on my drive that was an actual threat. I can't say every drive is going to be safe like mine was though.
@@OfficialChaseBrogan Is there a list anywhere that will show me the software I should allow that gets flagged as potentially harmful but is not? I'm afraid I'll have no idea which is ok and which might really be harmful. thanks again for helping me!
I just bought one, it has a ton of games but, still has a lot to be desired. Some of the game don't work or just freeze. Controller setup can be hit or miss for me. (Nintendo )
They differ with what's offered. This one is probably a cleaner selection but it's comparable for sure. The other has better AAA titles but I don't play too many AAA titles myself.
I just ordered a new mini PC to use as an emulation machine. I am strongly considering getting this as a starter build. However, reading the setup having to turn antivirus off is giving me pause. Why would you need to turn antivirus off? Is this common practice for emulation builds? Do you have to turn antivirus off each time you use it or just initial setup? Thanks in advance for any useful information.
Could you essentially put this inside of a pc as well or can it run only as an external drive? Love the content you put out I missed out on your Batocera SSD you were selling but eventually made my own thanks to you and various youtubers on RUclips
All these games look great, but honestly all I want to work are dragon's lair (I see it in MAME but no daphne emulation, not a big deal as I have a RPi3b+ that works great, but would be nice) and Iron Storm on Saturn.
I'm looking to buy something like this. This looks pretty good and is around 200 dollars right now. Good price. My question is, what would you recommend out of all of the drives you've used? I have a pc with a 14900 and a 4080 Super so power isn't a problem. Thanks for any recommendations.
someone already answered to this question, the two best drive are the jmachen 4tb hyperbase mix, and this 12 tb from kinhank with 4 different front ends!!!
@@OfficialChaseBrogan No worries, brother! It be what it be. Great video anyway...I'm sort of addicted to buying these drives, but, I need that Teknoparrot! LOL
Great vid. I liked and subscribed. Is Neo mr Do for the Neo Geo/SNK in there? Pater Pack Rat arcade in MAME? Quartet Arcade in MAME? ALl the other Mr Do games in Mame? Lastly is Bachelor Party , Porkys, and General Custard or Custard in Atari 2600? Im new to Emulation, are you able to add any ROMS to this that might be missing? Or is it "you get what you pay for" and that's it?
Can it be harvested/mined? Can you extract the ROMS, Emulators, Bios, front ends, etc?? A lot of them are built to be compartmentalized. Might be an odd question, but I haven't seen you dig thru file system on any of them. Tip to any in need: Most emulators come down to the version of encoding/features supported by your system components. If you search your GPU, APU, CPU and look at the "graphics features"(Techpowerup will easily tell you), you can check them to the emulator you are trying to use. Some times weaker newer components will preform better due to supporting a different version of OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulcan, etc. And I have seen the other way too. Example: RetroArch requirements - "with SSE2 instructions" + "Any GPU that supports OpenGL 2.x or Direct3D11" + "DirectX: Version 11"
Nice video, buddy. Would you happen to know if it's possible to take this out of the case and just install/mount it inside a regular PC and if so... does it have to be assigned a specific DRIVE LETTER, like D Drive as I think some pre-made others out there have to be assigned a Drive: D to it. TIA....
Ok a couple questions, can you add to the game son there, can you delete games on there ? Can you delete systems on there . Also you showed no gameplay at all ,I just need to know if I can customize at all or is it set to the systems. And do you 100 percent need a pc to play ?
Hi I have the Kinhank 5-1 for few months now got a full licence on my big box done an update for retro bat and teckno, however teckno won’t seem to recognise controller anymore do you have any idea how to fix that ? Also any suggestions on how to get Amiga games to work I’m having issues on retro bat and big box alien breed as an example brings up a little computer screen and I have no clue what I am meant to do to load the game
I have the old one. It is a good collection but it does take a bit of setting up particularly controllers for certain emulators. Adding games to the database also seems a hassle. Having a retrobat type setup is good for those who want a simpler life.
Hello, great video, but I have a question: I can play it 100% on my PC without any performance problems. My PC is an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor 3.70 GHz, 32.0 GB RAM, 64-bit operating system, x64 based processor, My graphics card is the Geforce MSI 1080 GTX. I can play anything with it without any performance problems ???
So I'm literally going to buy a PC so I can run one of these, I don't have a working PC at all right now. What kind of specs will I need? I'm not great at figuring that stuff out. 😅👍
@@petesilvers5053 ok, awesome. Thank You, will having those also cover how much ram I would need? Thanks 👍

Hey great review of the hdd. Enjoyed watching your video. Much better then other reviews of these monster hdds
Everyone might as well sell their real physical collection and buy this, You are set for life lmao.
@RetroGamingGuy would you say this one is better than the kinhank hyperspin 12 Tb hard drive that youve covered in previous video???
I’ve got the same question
I was wondering this too!!! 👍👍
Ditto! 🤷♂️
See a post earlier , gives a good insight into why he thinks it's better than the hyperspin one .
Come on answer please
I have watched this whole video and compared this device to the previous 12TB Kinhank one and discovered that for most of the consoles, this one has a few more games than the previous 12TB drive, but for several of them, they're the same amount as this one. It looks like this one is overall better tho. I can't speak on performance of the games and malware, but it seems like this is the better overall option.
I bought one like 4 months ago would this be the same one or is this one a new one ?
@@jessemccullough2188 This one has five front ends with games on them you can play the one you bought probably has just hyperspin. This one has hyperspin also but not as many as the previous one they've been put into launch box
@@Macktube had to disable and add an exclusion the folder
Very thankful for what you do man
Awesome video ! Clicked on link - does not show up on Amazon.
The count for Retrobat was there at the top and center before you made the change
Yeah, no idea how he missed that 😂
Yea I seen it also it was small though
I have this 12Tb has all consoles with tons of games with the exception of PS5 and Xbox X/S
does it actually have a good selection of each console tho? like quality not quantity
Didn't see pinball games?
Could you please confirm...just ordered and looking forward to playing some
@@petesilvers5053 ITS FULL OF PINBALL, you will find two folders, pinball fx and pinball fx3
@@ANewEvilRising it has a high quantity but makes sure to include all the best games
THANKS!
Im definitely buying this at the start of the month
Got mine today can't fault it at all for £180 presentation is perfect some don't work but hey not many
Drive offers a lot for the price. Definitely seems like a solid option.
Thanks for reviewing these. I learned it might take you 7 months to put your own collection together. But it is safer and cheaper in the long run ❤🎉😂
Also the issue with putting your own collection together is finding games especially with the crackdown with Sega and Nintendo is finding games. Since they cracked down recently finding games is very difficult, i.e Vimms lost all their Nintendo and alot of others....
Takes too much time downloading and putting them together and making them work. Roms, Art work, Bios files, emulators. Too much trouble. Just buy it
@@javybeaz3236 anything worth having is never easy 💯
I don’t have money for that but I I have lots of free time 🤓
game count for animatics-dx was on the top middlish if u didn't find it, its hard to see. Great video!!!
Damn I have the first 12tb drive and it’s great!! But now I feel like I have to get this new one as well 😅
Man that Wrestle Mania modded 1up is sweet. Have you tried installing the HDD in your gaming PC to get a bit more speed out of it? I would think direct connection to SATA vs USB could improve loading times even with the HDD being the bottleneck.
If someone wouldn't mind, I have some questions:
This is a hard drive and requires a PC to run it.
You could add those titles on your own
Still prefer the original 12tb from Kinhank with the straight Hyperspin/Rocketlauncher set up. For me, there are too many menus to dip in and out of here. Great review, enjoyed it!
ok so this is NOT the same one
I got the previous one there is so much but this one looks like it is organized better. I would love to be able to hide some
yeah! I have been researching how to hide wheels/games - the interface is so messy!
thanks for the security check/info ... if anyone is really concerned ... dont connect the computer to the network at all or isolate it with virtual networks
Is there a games list posted somewhere? Favorite arcade mame/games are time crisis 2, gauntlet legends and original killer instinct
Outstanding video!
Yo great video I have a question which one is the best this one or the super console x5 pro I want to play on my tv thanks in advance
the one who invented plug and play games is a great and true scientist.
Does this have "Tenchu Wrath Of Heaven" or "Tenchu Fatal Shadows" in the PS2 games?
Would you be able to use this with a mini pc like the beelink ser5? Was just curious, thanks.
Yeah some of the more demanding stuff may be a bit hot or miss but you'd be able to play at least 85% maybe even more.
What should I do if the drive doesn't show up in File Explorer?
Well done, as a dev from core type r this is all available for free
This looks great are the gun games plug and play? I have a Sinden!
Hi nice review... question Is this hard drive bootable to install an arcade cabinet ?
Will you be doing a set-up video for this unit?
@retro gaming guy did u buy the drive with their optional gamesir t3 controller or did you use your own? Keen to know if they're decent or if you're better off using an original xbox core/console controller eg 🤔👍🏻 great feature
Hi,
Can the retro shooter lightgun be used with this hard drive?
Thanks for the reply.
So for about $300 it will be better than one of those stand alone systems.
is there one that's plug and play for a tv? If not what would I need, like is there a type of system I can plug it into that comes with controllers?
What is the minimum requirement to play these? I don't have a gaming pc.
Thinking of getting this. What would be a good setup(specs) to run it on?
curious how well the newer titles would play on a nvidia shield
Are there save states? Or any cheats that can be applied to some of the games? Which retro hard drive and SD card do you recommend the most?
for the wii and light gun games do they use a reg controller or can you buy a bluetooth light gun and wii controller thanks
Great Video!! What specs for a PC would you recommend that would handle this 12TB HDD so everyone can get the most out of it. Want a PC that can handle anything on this HDD. Thanks
Is there a mini pc that this could connect to that could then connect to a tv?
Did you find out?
(Nintendo )
Was pinball on the new 1...?.just ordered! thanks
Hello I would like to know which of the two 12tb hard drives you find better hyperspin or the 5 in 1 thank you for your great videos
Windows detects a Virus in the Emulators. Just that nothing gets deleted.
Is there a way to add ps4 / xbox one games collection to the HDD? It doesnt seem to include it on this vs the hyperspin attraction 12tb
Did they fix the issue of malware from the previous version of the drive?
Could you essentially put this inside of a pc as well or can it run only as an external drive? Love the content you put out I missed out on your Batocera SSD you were selling but eventually made my own thanks to you and various youtubers on RUclips
You could put it inside yeah. Just remove it from the enclosure and use a sata cable
All these games look great, but honestly all I want to work are dragon's lair (I see it in MAME but no daphne emulation, not a big deal as I have a RPi3b+ that works great, but would be nice) and Iron Storm on Saturn.
I need a 12 TB SSD for my Xbox series X and PS5 and PC storage is needed for those
So this can only be used with a PC ? Any other parts I can purchase to use on my TV ?
Do you have an arcade joystick mapping guide for this drive?
Do all the frontends have the same amount of games on each or for example does retrobat list more than hyperspin?
Which model is this there are different models?
Do "retro shooter" guns work with any gun games in this drive?
Hey nice video. Did you test the drive and see how many hours are on it to see if its used or new? Whats the date on the drive as well? Thanks
are refurbished drive 100 per cent!!!
@@GiacomBono I'll look into it, thanks!
Thanks so much for this, Retro! One quick thing, that promo code doesn't seem to be working right now, at least based upon the link above.
It might be for specific locations I'm not sure how they did that
@@OfficialChaseBrogan No worries, brother! It be what it be. Great video anyway...I'm sort of addicted to buying these drives, but, I need that Teknoparrot! LOL
So the one you reviewed a few months back is the better one?
It all depends what you're looking for. They both have a lot to offer the olde tone offers more AAA titles
I jsut want the roms and back them up and use it for my front loader
Where do you Buy one at, and how much.
Does it have 'Shining the Holy Ark' on Sega Saturn?
You can add...👍🏻🇬🇧
I went through the games, the Switch, PS3, 360, and GameCube all failed to open. File missing or corrupted file.
Looking for plug and play, with that meny games or more
This drive is on Amazon too right?
I was thinking of getting this an also getting a mini PC to go along with it what mini PC would you recommend that would work best with this
I'm using the Beelink Ser6 Max Ryzen 9 and it's perfect for retro gaming and very affordable too. Check his video review on that.
Is this different than the 12t drive you reviewed a few weeks ago?
Yep it is this is the new one.
What’s the biggest difference?
@@Jfuzzy85 the other drive is a Hyperspin front end only, this has launchbox and more
Do you have an Amazon link?
Will these work with batocera?
Does Kodi have anything in it for Movies or TV shows?
Nice video, buddy. Would you happen to know if it's possible to take this out of the case and just install/mount it inside a regular PC and if so... does it have to be assigned a specific DRIVE LETTER, like D Drive as I think some pre-made others out there have to be assigned a Drive: D to it. TIA....
I'd like to know too, probably be faster installed in the PC.
Ok a couple questions, can you add to the game son there, can you delete games on there ? Can you delete systems on there . Also you showed no gameplay at all ,I just need to know if I can customize at all or is it set to the systems. And do you 100 percent need a pc to play ?
Is there an even better drive that has all this but more AAA games than this one?
If so where can I find it?
😅👍
Hi I have the Kinhank 5-1 for few months now got a full licence on my big box done an update for retro bat and teckno, however teckno won’t seem to recognise controller anymore do you have any idea how to fix that ?
Also any suggestions on how to get Amiga games to work I’m having issues on retro bat and big box alien breed as an example brings up a little computer screen and I have no clue what I am meant to do to load the game
Are you able to access the rom files inside the drive?
I have the old one. It is a good collection but it does take a bit of setting up particularly controllers for certain emulators. Adding games to the database also seems a hassle. Having a retrobat type setup is good for those who want a simpler life.
HOTD remake on the switch is terrible even on the switch.
I'm not great at figuring that stuff out.

i5 and 30.. Nvidia card.... I've got i5 and 4050 laptop... All good
@@petesilvers5053 ok, awesome. Thank You, will having those also cover how much ram I would need? I know the i5 is a processor and the Nvidia is a graphics card, if I make sure the PC or laptop I get has at least 16GB of ram would that be enough?
I'm woefully unfamiliar with many PC terms and specs, Diablo 2 being 2GB was a pretty big file the last time I was actually familiar with computers and even then I wouldn't say I completely knew what I was doing.
