I watched Leo this evening. Can you please tell Mr. Smigel that it was one of the most sensitively written, funny, and brilliant comedies I've ever seen? I mean, truly, it hits deep but is also so funny. The casting was perfect. Conan, you said that families would be watching this 50 years from now and you were right. This is an all time classic.
Memorized the words to don’t cry. Rejected by my children, siblings, and society, crying is most of what I do. Sixty five year old, defined as mentally ill, disabled veteran; I’ve claimed “ don’t cry” as my theme song. Helps me laugh while I cry, especially during these horrendously lonely holiday times. Don’t cry makes me happy. Thanks for the song.
For the longest time I thought the "only" thing he did was Triumph, which was by far my favorite bits and remotes. Not until later have I learned what a huge part he had in the success of Conan's shows and career. Truly a treasure.
Gosh, you can just feel the love and respect these two have for each other. So wonderful to see. And it's so interesting how neither of them feel truly comfortable when they are being praised. Robert's constantly looking down and away really shows his humility. I really enjoyed watching their banter back and forth and listening to them reminiscing about old times. Just great. I'm not really into animation but I will look for Robert's film.
Conan saying he wished there was a camera post-show in the writers' room makes me thankful for Seth Meyer's corrections videos every week. We could only be so lucky to have a Conan version...it's not too late!
Jackals unite! It’s Thursday and you know what that means… Unfortunately a Conan version, which would be spectacular, would require him to read RUclips comments and he says that he never does.
What a sweet guy, and I can't wait to hear more from him. I'm making it a point to go watch Leo. I had no idea he was involved, and I have high hopes. You all be well.
I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for Lorne, for having to deal with these guys for 50 years. Can you imagine? All comedians, doing bits all the time... I mean, it's fun, but at some point you gotta run to your blueberry farm in Maine, or you'll get crazy.
I adore the respect and pure joy that both Conan and Robert have for each other's success - what a blessing to be working with a friend that gets you on such a innately deep level. Much love to both you icons!
My favourite song from Leo was “Don‘t Cry“. I was watching it with my brother and he was obviously not paying attention to the lyrics. I made him rewind it, because I was rolling off the couch laughing and he wasn’t. The tune is a beautiful lullaby, but the lyrics are all phrases about how crying is “lazy and dumb” and “makes you look ugly”.
I didn't even realize Rob was invovled in Leo when i watched it. I had low hopes, thought it was just another Sandler milk bucket before watching it, but it was so much better than i expected!
Imagine a eulogy for Smigel where all of his closest friends say heartfelt things about him and then they all end by sobbing “for me to poop on” Ahh catchphrases
I have just watched Leo and it was full of smart little background jokes for adults. Sadly on the IMDB everyone is hailing Adam Sandler while Robert had done so much work on this!
Robert is one of the funniest ppl, and he doesn’t get too much attention. My older loves “the wedding singer” and I’m younger, he loves a character in that movie. And I’m like that’s “Robert” he is one of the funniest, and me and my brother connected more, just funny, my brother; is older, and showing him, when my brother was like watch these skits from this and that. He didn’t know he was “triumph the insult comic dog” so I can show em vids and send it. We live an ocean apart, these things always make us laugh and connect and call on the phone. Sounds sad, but just saying we can be miles apart and still laugh together becomes of this guy.
Leo is the best movie of all time. Thanks to Spilling The Milk and Disney fumbling their 100th movie , this movie made more money than that movie and a lot of others that came out during this time. Thank you Robert Smigel and everyone else who worked on this movie.
Telling someone "Congrats on your Netflix Movie" is the same as saying that they're so funny, they should be on SNL, is it really a compliment? (Though still, it's nice he's getting work, I'm just saying, Netflix hasn't had the best catalog in a while, have no idea if the movie is good or not, just glad he's getting work.)
Watching the movie, I will say there is a golden age Pixar level of quality to the story. I really liked the premise, but the humor and jokes were a little hit or miss. Especially towards the end I felt it wasn’t going to go the way I’d hoped. But that’s really more on me and what I wanted rather than what the movie wanted to do. Long story short, it was a pretty good film.
I think the Hotel Transylvania movies are great, personally. They're silly and fun and safe for your kids to watch. What more do you want? Also, gotta see Leo. 👍
I kinda wish Robert Smigel was part of your "Hlw the Show Started episodes..." would be interesting to hear his takes...and jokes/skits that didnt make it on the Show, hehe
Goats are great nay-sayers, too. People always go directly to the cows - but when it comes to negative attitude, goats are like: "na-a-a-a-a-a-aaay!!!"

Robert is spectacularly humble for the genius he truly is. He even drops his head when he gets compliments lol. So refreshing.
I hope there's at least 14 more episodes with Robert such a great interview
Robert deserves so much success. What a gem.
You know how people say that so-and-so is a national treasure? Robert Smigel is an Underrated National Treasure!
For the longest time I thought the "only" thing he did was Triumph, which was by far my favorite bits and remotes. Not until later have I learned what a huge part he had in the success of Conan's shows and career. Truly a treasure.
No
@@Havreflan AND a huge part of SNL in the 90s.
His acid witt w Triumph and the sweetness of Leo show this cat has amazing range. Good for him if this leads to a larger audience

I think it's free on netflix, I'm gonna check it out this weekend myself
I've never heard Lorne Michaels speak but i know exactly what he sounds like from hearing so many people imitate him
I love experiencing creative genius. Smigel has it in spades. How I wish I could do what he does.
I saw leo after listening to the podcast.
I am very sceptical with the new era kids movies.
Leo was amazing!!!!
Also underrated as smigel
No doubt Robert Smigel is one of the most gifted comic minds of our time. I have loved his work for so many years.
I’m very thankful for Robert Smigel!! This is such a well earned and appreciated spotlight.
Conan saying he wished there was a camera post-show in the writers' room makes me thankful for Seth Meyer's corrections videos every week.

I always ask, what would make Seth meyers laugh.
While I'd not compare them directly, there's a "humanity" to both Conan and Seth that joins them in my personal pantheon of late-night greats.
I watched leo in English and in Greek with my children because they don't speak English yet.
It's was amazing in both languages!
What a sweet guy, and I can't wait to hear more from him. I'm making it a point to go watch Leo. I had no idea he was involved, and I have high hopes. You all be well.
Leo was amazing. Ready to see it again
I love that almost universally every SNL alumni has a Lorne impression and drops it at every opportunity.
I really want a supercut of Lorne impressions
I love that the impressions span from when snl was a funny cultural phenomenon all the way until the last 20 years.
I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for Lorne, for having to deal with these guys for 50 years. Can you imagine? All comedians, doing bits all the time... I mean, it's fun, but at some point you gotta run to your blueberry farm in Maine, or you'll get crazy.
And Lorne hates it

I also thought this was hilarious because it’s the opposite of what other kids movies would say
I like it because it different and also tells the truth.
Bob deserves this success. I stand by TV Funhouse (the series) as one of the funniest shows Comedy central ever had.
I concur
I didn't even realize Rob was invovled in Leo when i watched it. I had low hopes, thought it was just another Sandler milk bucket before watching it, but it was so much better than i expected!
The pear tree portion of the premise of “Mr. Short Term Memory” makes it even more hilarious, because pears are a soft fruit.
This was a great episode..... for me to poop on!

There's zero chance that doesn't transpire at his funeral... 👍
Speaking of phenomenal music AND comedy, I wonder if Team Coco will ever have Tim Minchin on? He’s just incredible
To be a creator of true classics constantly shows the true talent
If Leo is available on Swedish Netflix, I’ll get it again just to see it. Seems awesome
There was talk of Gerbils! @5:14
I could listen to the Lorne impressions for hours.
I have just watched Leo and it was full of smart little background jokes for adults. Sadly on the IMDB everyone is hailing Adam Sandler while Robert had done so much work on this!
Gratitude from my kids for this movie. I believe it should be shown in all schools.
I watched Leo yesterday by myself. so gooood. No kids necessary
Smigel has great eye contact with his coffee cup on the table. His coffee cup gets him.
Watched this last night, thanks to Conan. The first 15 minutes or so aren't great, but it just gets better and better

Mr Short Term memory is one of my faves. Still sing that jingle today. Lol

Smigel is the first person on that Conan really loves
Conan. Wife and I love the content and your career sir. Big fans merry Christmas.
So we put on Leo on our family night and we were not expecting to like it so much.
My family has already watched it 4 times.
Robert Smigel's media monopoly cartoon that played only once on SNL is STILL the best critique of the so-called 'mainstream media' ever created.
Leo was great! Watched it twice and I'm 50!
Conan has some style swag…
Hopefully it comes to one of the other streaming services and I can watch it.
aww best friends
MORE SMIGEL!
I love the movie! I feel it wud do better than Disney's Wish if it was released theatrically.
My very young nephew loves Leo.
First Godzilla, now Leo. This is the year of the Lizard!
Where Leo walked through the *_LEGO_* bricks was like Godzilla too!
As a father of a kindergartener...Robert nailed the chaotic nature of those little squirts lmao
Kindergarten kids where hilarious
Best Lorne impression is Bill Hader. Specifically namedropping serial killers.
now I've got to go see it.
Idgad about what the critics have to say about Zohan, Robert. It was a great movie
I really loved that movie. Wore out that DVD

Jordan!!!
I haven't seen the movie yet. I want to see Conan to voice a character. I wonder what animal he would be?
I'm FILLED with MAZEL. 😂
Irish and Scottish both have developed from the same language, that's why Scottish Garlic and modern Irish are somewhat similar
Could the funniest man alive.
I think the Hotel Transylvania movies are great, personally. They're silly and fun and safe for your kids to watch. What more do you want? Also, gotta see Leo. 👍
Also if you look carefully in the movie you can see conan 😉
I kinda wish Robert Smigel was part of your "Hlw the Show Started episodes..." would be interesting to hear his takes...and jokes/skits that didnt make it on the Show, hehe

Can't Robert have... I dunno... can't you just roll in another seat for him?? Of the permanent variety, that is...?
Did Mike Myers base Dr Evils voice on lauren?
Lorne hasn't ever been a guest on here yet, has he? how has that never happened
We want Jim Carrey on the pod!!!
Leo was a good movie... For me to poop on!
Leo das
"for me to poop on" was the only thing corny about Triumph.
I'm gonna buy Leo and poop on it.
Which button do you press to get your parents to pick you up..
