When a child is raised in a loving home with devoted, educated parents, that child takes that message of love and care into their adult life. I am a retired nurse, and cared for very sick and disabled children. As my career continued, I had the opportunity to work with terminally adult patients both in Palliative Care and Hospice as they were dying. I wasn't surprised to find many, way more than average numbers, of gay nurses, doctors and support staff providing care to the dying. I found nothing but compassion, gentleness and genuine concern that our patients were managed in the most caring way, that their pain was under control, they were comfortable, kept clean, always had someone to listen to them and help support their families, no matter the hour of day or night. I tell you this because when you leave this world, it may very likely be a gay nurse who gives your pain medications, bathes you and changes your diapers, consoles your family and is there at 3am when you are afraid. I’m a trans woman raised in a conservative area by transphobic parents. I’ve never felt like a man or wanted to act like a man but for the first 16 years of my life I was forced to. I remember people realizing I was depressed by 2nd grade and getting put into therapy after I couldn’t stop crying over the smallest of things. Being trans I naturally have a lot of feminine mannerisms (sitting like a girl etc.) which I later got bullied for a lot. I got extremely depressed around 16 and I struggled to not end it all. There were weeks where I don’t know how I survived every day. I ended up coming out as gay and opening up a tiny bit. I was still very afraid to be myself even around my most accepting friends. After that I was still depressed but things weren’t nearly as bad anymore. Around when I turned 18 I finally accepted that I was trans and came out to a few close friends who were not transphobic at all. Because I had spent my entire life basically living a lie I still struggle to really open up and be myself, even when I know these people would like me even more if I were to fully be myself. But I’ve finally gotten over my depression and life doesn’t seem so bad. If I were so much as told that trans people exist and aren’t just demons I would’ve known I was trans immediately. If people accepted me for who I was I never would’ve gotten to the brink of suicide. Lgbtq+ kids are victims not monsters. You can’t make somebody gay or trans. @@ghsbadgerfgb8953 I'm an old woman now, a grandmother many times over. I make it a habit to never respond to nasty comments. It's a waste of energy. But, I'll tell you a bit about me, to help you understand something.

People who try to cast us to the shadows need to realize more people than they think are lgbtq and they’re only making those kids scared and depressed.

It’s because they don’t believe there is such a thing as “queer kids.” They think it’s either a choice they make to be trendy/rebellious or something they’re indoctrinated into believing and that everyone is straight by default. Wrong and disgusting, yes, but that’s their rationale.
It has been a month, any luck "having" kids yet?

Holy Shit, her outburst of “HOW DARE YOU MAKE THEM AFRAID BECAUSE YOU ARE!” actually moved me to tears. I wasn’t expecting to suddenly cry on my lunch break and yet here I am. My younger self felt so validated.
Holy shit, I'm tearing up at her absolutely righteous anger as she rages about LGBTQIA+ kids and adults being made to feel afraid. Powerful stuff.
Omg I started tearing up when she lost it. Seriously eloquently put and so much respect for her.
“How dare you make them afraid because you are” is such a raw line. Beautiful
This was so moving. This woman’s words were so on the mark. As a bisexual woman, I hear all kinds of remarks and comments designed to tear me and my thought and beliefs down until I change my “wicked” ways. As a Gen X woman, I tell them that their opinion is theirs and if they don’t want me pushing my beliefs on them, the stop pushing their beliefs on to me. My language is usually much harsher and a little more politically incorrect. Homophobia has not place in schools. Racism and no place in school. This things only hurt children in the long run.
"How DARE you make them afraid!" I just LOVE how passionate she is :] It's so empowering!! 🏳🌈🏳🌈
Remember, this whole thing started because a book pointed out something that exists. It didn't teach a lie. It didn't push an agenda. It mentioned a thing that exists in the world.
"Exists" being the key word. Facts from *this* universe, vs. the Bizarro MAGA universe, which, Bizarro as it is, holds strange comfort for terrified souls.

Please stay strong. It won't be always that hard. I know parents sometimes can be the most problematic people in our lifes and for some reason understand us far worse than most other people. @@MONGO77859How dare you to reply in such an ignorant, manipulative and incompent way, completely disregarding what the commentor above said? Don't you feel any shame or do you simply don't understand at all what was being said?
The teenager is suffering from hateful, close minded parents who terrorize their kid for who the kid is. That can lead to but in of itself is not a mental health issue. It's abuse and the kid is in fact a victim. The kid isn't trying to be a victim when the parents victimize them for simply being different. To be so manipulative to comment on such a situation as being just a mental health issue is highly irresponsible and really just evil. So stfu and stop telling queer teenagers they need therapy when they just told you they were getting victimized for being queer, ESPECIALLY when they are as devastated as described in the first comment. Yup. Greatest ever horror stroy ever written.
It's incredibly ironic that Christian bigots always use the Leviticus quote which completely goes against the preachings of Jesus
Bro some people don't even know what's actually in the Bible. So much horrific stuff is in there, you don't even know. For example, annoying children should be stoned by every male in the city. Or woman aren't allowed to be a priest. And much much more bad stuff. Why do we pick and choose stuff from the Bible? "Oh yeah no this seems a little too brutal, let's not do that and just ignore it. AH oh but the Bible says gays are bad, so they are!" That's so Bs. Like bro, either believe im the entirety of the Bible. Or Don't believe in it at all. I don't think god wants you to pick and choose whats written on his holy book. You aren't homophobic because you are a Christian. You are just homophobic because you want to be.

I love how people dont see queer relationship as normal relationship, they only think it as sex. Saying that some families have two moms or dads is not exposing your kids to sex, it's just explaining that some families are like that. @@NotUnymous These are not tough times in the U.S. for homosexuals. It's like a different world from even just 10 years ago. Most of the controversy now is just over should little kids in elementary school learn about homosexuality or not. So that gives you an idea of just how "not tough" it is. What laws are they trying to pass that are going to strip you of your rights to feely be who you are? You're being a drama queen.
