    Your video told me exactly what I needed.
    1) Here I was thinking I could RAID one drive just to test and see if it would delete data, before RAIDing them both, not knowing that I would HAVE to RAID both at the same time, and if I had done that, there would have gone my LIFE on P.C. since 2000.
    2) I bought an 8tb backup drive, will backup to that, then RAID both my internal 8TB drives, and use the external backup as just that. Thanks to the video uploader and the commenters who informed me that RAID ISN'T a substitute for backup, which I didn't know until just now, and I now agree now that I did some reading an learned about why regarding file destruction and viruses.

    Remember that RAID 1 is vulnerable to data corruption from one drive being replicated across the entire array. RAID 1 is a fail-over strategy to improve reliability, not a backup strategy.

    I believe you should also install the Intel RST utility, and perform RAID initialization (non-destructive) from there.

    What option determines whether or not Windows is also mirrored?

    4:50 are you not able to select the drive? i have 3 drives and one of them is an OS drive. I do not want all of them to be changed to RAID 1

      Yes, if you have more than 2 drives, you can choose member drives prior to creating the array.

      @@TzOke não foi o caso do video? Vi que o sistema está em um nvme de 256gb

      @@TzOkporém o mesmo não selecionou os discos de 1tb antes de finalizar o arranjo.

      @@adrianoleitenetwork This 256GB system disk, was an NVME drive, not SATA. The Intel RST controller didn't even see this disk. You can't make RAID from SATA and NVME disks on an Intel RST controller.

      @@TzOkyou can do with VROC 6.x and higher, but need hardware lisence key from vroc.

    For RAID1, never use two drives from the same LOT! Preferably, never use drives from the same manufacturer.

      Porque? Because???

    • @WagnerVaz
      @WagnerVaz 8 дней назад

      @@adrianoleitenetworkporque se eles são do mesmo lote , provavelmente vão dar defeito na mesma época.
      O sentido do raid1 é uma copia de segurança, não há segurança com aparelhos do mesmo lote por motivos que citei acima.

      Some EFI firmwares may require Secure Boot to be temporarily disabled before you can access the RST option ROM during startup. If you decide to disable Secure Boot, make sure you do NOT clear your keys/certificates, and make sure you re-enable Secure Boot when you're done.
      If you are uncertain about how to proceed, it is best, before you lose any data, to take a complete backup of the RAID array currently in use, and to consult someone who has familiarity with your hardware, and with how the RAID hardware and firmware work.

    How can I make the Intel Rapid Storage option available on my BIOS settings?

    • @Century4K
      @Century4K  2 года назад

      your motherboard has to support it

    • @horusfalcon

      I've read your other reply, and I think what I'm about to say may be at variance to that reply.
      Invoking the Intel Rapid Storage Technology option ROM does depend on your hardware having that ROM installed somewhere, be it on the motherboard or on an add-on RAID controller. Usually, a screen message from the firmware will ask you to press *Ctrl+I* to enter the configuration options for RST. BE CAREFUL with those settings, because it is easy to lose data if you do not understand what the options mean...

      Usually, you need to switch SATA Controler operation mode from IDE or AHCI to RAID. Of course, you need to have an Intel chipset-based motherboard.

      @@Century4K Yup, if it can be formatted. Be sure you've gotten all the data you need from any drives you are about to commit to a RAID array before you install them.

      @@adrianoleitenetwork nvme só é suportado para raid on cpu e nao pode fazer array misto com satas pois eles estão no barramento PCH, com nvmes intel originais ou uma lista seleta de licenciamento do Vroc, alem de ter um hardware key na placa, a intel quer cobrar 2x por uma tecnología que o Windows já oferece...
