The main problem with them having Ash's Turtwig evolve was that it became slower after evolving; they even made it a point to have Paul's Torterra show it how to take a more defensive approach to battling in the same episode. But the writers then backpeddled on this by letting it learn rock climb to try and "fix" the problem it had with becoming slower, rather than embracing what had been previously established when it evolved

I dont unterstand why they let turtwig evolving, he was so good, and then, when he evolved so bad...
They evolved it, but it was worse than snivy, but as turtwig it had the same impact or more than ash's bulbasaur
