You were really emphasizing how important knitting a swatch is but I was very disappointed that you didn’t knit one so we could see the correct way of doing this. I’ve not knitted for over 20 years and have forgotten everything so I would have found it really helpful and I’m sure I’m not the only one!
Hi Wendy, Every machine knitting manual gives instruction for knitting swatches. You can also find a free video at Knit it Now here www.knititnow.com/learn/tutorial/522/knit-a-gauge-swatch-in-less-than-minutes
after years of doing machine knitting, I agree 100% with this video. I especially agree with 'treat the swatch the same way you will treat your future garment.' For me, this means spilling something on it, leaving the stain to dry, and then wash, dry etc. It's really good to know before you spend time making something that if you spill something on it, you'll be able to wash your favorite morning beverage out of the fabric.
Thanks for your videos Sue, they're extremely engaging. I've just picked up my very first knitting machine, though I'm currently trying to get it into working order
Russell Levers on Silver/Singer/Studio machines are used for hold (partial knitting / short rows). With the Russel levers engaged, needles that are all the way out, or in hold position (D-E position) will NOT knit. Russell Levers are very useful and can also be used for manual stitch patterning, bridging, intarsia and free pass. I invite you to visit Knit it Now to learn more about your machine and machine knitting techniques. www.knititnow.com
Are sinker plates for brother knitting machines interchangeable between standard and bulky machines? I’m thinking of buying a used bulky machine that is missing the sinker plate but I own a standard machine just wondering if the sinker plates are universal before I buy the bulky. Thanks Sue!!

Please can you tell me why I can't get started on my machine. It just produces loops
Does anybody explain how the Russell Levers work?
